If it is, it still doesn't discount that this camera is a phenomenal tool most of the time. **UPDATE 02/16/22** Shipped out the camera to Fujifilm and they confirmed that it has been received. Let's see what happens next 🤞🏾 **UPDATE 03/01/22** Fujifilm got back to me within a couple of days and quoted me a price for the repair. I then mentioned to them that I had been having this issue in some capacity since I had the camera and didn't realize it was an issue until much later, requested a reduced quote for the repair. They were kind enough to waive the fee and repair the camera. I tested the camera for several weeks and could not replicate the issue. I wish there was more transparency as to WHAT the issue was, but I never got that answer. However, I was genuinely impressed at how they handled the issue and how quickly they dealt with the matter.

Fuji’s have an annoying “wake from sleep” mode where you have to press on the shutter for two seconds in order to wake it and fire. Fuji does this to avoid the shutter firing if asleep in your bag. To combat this I turn the camera off. It’s faster to turn on the camera than wake from sleep unfortunately

@@TheVFXbyArt This is true but I don't feel that is is the problem in this case. I have the very same problem and it can even happen between shots - at least this is my experience. At first I thought the shutter button was faulty and needed to be pressed down further but nope, it would just refuse to fire. I've shot with Fuji's for years and owned pretty much every model out there at one point or another and the X-Pro3 is the only camera I've seen with this issue.

Hi - this is 100% a hardware fault that can be fixed, it’s certainly common with the XP3 though. I’ve actually owned two X-Pro3’s - the first did this fairly regularly, but through speaking to other users online I convinced myself that this was just how the button was, and I wasn’t pressing it right - I couldn’t get on with it and ended up selling the camera on after about three months. I then had second thoughts a few months later and bought another. This one also did it initially, again confirming to me that this was “normal”, but after a month or so Fuji released a firmware update which included the usual “fix of minor bugs”. Coincidentally the shutter button issue seemed to clear up for me at the same time and so for a few months I believed it had been a firmware issue that was now fixed. Of course it wasn’t, and the problem recurred randomly about four months later and actually got steadily worse, to the point where it was really preventing me getting pictures. At that point I finally decided to send it into Fuji for warranty repair. This was July 2021 and PLOT TWIST - they replaced the entire top plate without question and since then the issue has been 100% completely resolved, the shutter is totally responsive at all times and I have never had so much of a hint of the problem that plagued both this and the previous camera. As I say, absolutely a hardware fault and it can be cured.

I do worry about them not being able to reproduce and diagnose the issue tho. Otherwise there isn’t much guarantee any fixes will work. We’re they able to do these and tell you what was up with them?

Me too the same problem. I have already sent the camera for assistance 3 times, but after 5/6 months, the problem returned. I'm quite tired and disappointed. Have you solved it permanently?

@@DulainnIT after the top plate was replaced it never recurred on that camera, but I did sell it on after around 8 months so I can’t promise it’s still ok, like to think it is though since that button never showed the slightest issue.

I’ve purchased and sold this camera 2x already. My 2 personal takeaways were that I found myself redundantly flipping out the screen more than I wanted and it was too expensive to make it the EDC bag cam that I wanted it to be. Both of these problems are solved for me with an XPRO2 instead. Great vid as always.

My X Pro 3 also had a shutter release problem. It continued to worsen over time until it became impossible to depress the shutter button at all. I finally took it to the store where I purchased it, here in Seattle. They ended up sending it back to Fujifilm, where the shutter release and entire top plate we replaced at a cost of over $560.00. Not the outcome I was looking for, but it has been working flawlessly since the repair.

WOW ! So grateful to see the description of the shutter problem. Because I am experiencing the same. Irregularly. Pressing the shutter sometimes not acting at all, sometimes after a delay. Tried to reinstall the firmware without permanent solution. Even contacted the dealer, who did not understand what could be the reason. After this video I feel the support and thrust to go forth for a repair. Because I LOVE this camera.

I’m glad you posted this video. I have occasionally had the same experience with my copy, including when shooting in full manual (exposure and focus), with the same initial feeling that it must have been user error. I think it is more like a hiccup, somewhere between the hardware and the firmware. Some of the early Leica digital M bodies occasionally had similar unexplained lockups, particularly when shooting quickly (successive individual exposures) in Live View. These devices are, after all, computer systems interfaced with mechanical systems, having to “get along” in a myriad of situations, and Fujifilm engineers may or may not have come across this particular oddity in their tests. The X-Pro3 is still a fun and beautiful camera, and I look forward to the next iteration.

I never bought the pro3, even though I wanted too. I had the pro2 and opted for the XT4 because of the screen of the pro3. I have no problem with those who bought it, it just wasn’t for me.

The most inspirational camera I’ve ever used. The haters only served for me to lean in harder to the system. I have experienced the shutter ‘lock’ before. Weirdest thing is…if I toggle the OVF/EVF on and off it is back in action. I blame a lack of firmware update on this body from Fuji. As a JPEG shooter, I love this camera.

It's kind of weird because my problem sure behaves like a hardware issue. Maybe there's multiple factors. I sort of assumed the shutter release is a simple switch with three distinct states, but maybe it's more like a potentiometer that's being read and the state is interpreted in software.

The Xpro3 was the camera that made me buy into the Fuji system, but I couldn't afford one at the time so I went with a used X-T30. I really love everything that Fuji stands for, and appreciate that the system is a bit more affordable while still having excellent glass and bodies, and I especially appreciate their commitment to making unique and interesting cameras (XPro3, X100V, etc.) Terribly sorry to hear of this issue, and I'll admit it puts me off of the XPro3 a bit! Hopefully this is something that Fuji acknowledges!

I’m waiting for the X-Pro4 to come out. I have the X100V, I love this camera and since I got it, my photography results have gone from fairly average or crap, to very good 👍

I literally just noticed the X-Pro3 shutter issue a few days ago on my version and I think I found a solution (at least it‘s eliminated the problem for me so far). The issue seems to have something to do with the eye sensor for the EFV/OVF. When you set the Eye Sensor Setting (in Screen Set-Up) for Shooting to „Off“, the EVF/OVF is always activated and the delay for firing the shutter is gone. At least on my copy this seems to do the trick. Would love to hear if this helps anyone else as well

I have the same issue with my X-T3! When I bought it, I found it wouldn't fire... sometimes, just sometimes. I couldn't work out if it was the settings, the shutter button, my finger. It still sometimes happens, but I'm just glad I'm not the only one who's experience experienced this. Thanks for your video

With 35+ years of shooting, I've used certain brands shooting film and the last 15 years shooting digital, 2015 was a milestone for me when a colleague and brand ambassador for Olympus convinced me to shoot m43. At that time Fuji wasn't on my radar. Best decision I made for ease of use and wear and tear on my aging body. Fast forward to 2018, I purchased 3 of the lesser known but highly coveted Pen-f bodies and have to say it changed how I shoot for the better. Olympus discontinued the camera but it still is the camera I always want to shoot with in my documentary, street and travel photography work. I've seriously considered Fuji for the past year hearing all the great things about the user experience and the only cameras I've considered are the XE3 and the XPro2 along with the faster primes - but in my side by side comparison I see little to no difference in image quality per se', yet the slightly larger cameras do appeal to me as the Pen-f with it's "slower ancient" AF tech and smaller form factor does make it difficult at times to shoot with, but the flip side is Fuji's RAF files can only be really appreciated in Capture One as Adobe can't seem to get their act together for that one file format. Now listening to this glaring hardware related issue causes me to really stop and question if Fuji is beginning to get sloppy in the QC when sending cameras out of the factory for the sake of sales. I think the lesson here is use the tool that inspires you to pick it up (for me it's my Pen-f's) - I may still switch but it will be either the XE3 and/or XPro2 with those fast primes. I'm still not fully convinced though but this video is an honest assessment of what I've thought about Fuji - sure they are a quality brand, but they aren't perfect - no camera system is IMO. I will say that if I were to start over again, I'd go Fuji first - but right now, I am still not compelled to get rid of the large investment I have in Olympus bodies (3-Penf and 3-Em1Mk2's and 2-EM5's) 6 compact primes, 8mm fisheye, 3 zooms, and Issota aluminum housing for the EM1mk2's and Olympus housing for the Em5's.

I have several Fuji cameras, and it pains me to say that the Japan-made ones just don't quite match up to the Chinese ones. (And no, I'm not Chinese - I'm British, and a total Japanophile!) My (Chinese) xe3 is particularly well built - better than my (Japanese) xe2s and even my x100v. As for users asking themselves if they're "pushing the button wrong"... Jeez, come on Fuji, it's the principal button on the camera. We put people on the Moon over 50 years ago - it's beyond comprehension that a camera company has trouble making a reliable shutter button.

Cliff, I’m also a micro4/3 shooter, fantastic system. I’ve avoided switching to Fuji for all the reasons you mentioned. I shot an X100F almost exclusively for a year, and I just feel like, as a brand, Fuji isn’t quite ready for prime time. Working around little quirks, bugs, and annoyances, isn’t fun for me in a $1400 camera. My GX9 has never let me down, and cost $800 including a weatherproof kit lens. Incredible value.

I switched from Canon to Fuji 5 years ago. The only place where I find that Adobe falls short with the Fuji raw files is noise reduction. If you do too much noise reduction you get wormy patterns in large open areas like blank walls or sky. The color temperature settings for day, fluorescent etc are a bit off also, but when my Fuji cameras are set to auto WB they almost never need adjustment. Likewise I notice a lot less need for noise reduction on the Fujis than I did with my Canons. Canon has improved a lot, but the last few I had you def needed to expose to the right and then pull the highlights down in post.

I only shoot in the street and most of the time I need to take very quick shots. I have had the exact same problem you're describing with my x100F which has been for a long time my main street camera. Frustrating feeling. I recently started shooting with an x-T20, but the situation is even worse, because there is also a considerable lag between switching from LCD to EVF when I raise the camera (especially if it hasn't been used for some minutes). So I was seriously looking into the X-pro3, hoping to avoid this exact problem (so I really appreciate your video). BTW, have you ever experienced a lag in EVF activation when you raise the x-pro3 to your eye and the eye sensor kicks in? (long enough to make you miss the shot?) Yup same with my F I now use a soft release button definitely better. The evf lag too is a pain a times still love the F tho

Thanks Gajan, I’m having the same issue with my XPro3. Thought it was user error, but this video has made me feel better.

I am an all-Fujifilm Cinematographer and I have had issues with ALL brands of cameras including Fujifilm. The one thing though that outshines Fujifilm above the rest is their support. I had an X-T4 that out of the box had issues. Talked to Fujifilm about it and they replaced it with a brand new one. In addition, they offered to refund my money if it persisted, well it did not. My Fujifilm arsenal consists of 2-X-T2, 1-X-T3, 1-X-T4, 1-X100V, 1-X-Pro3, 1-GFX100 with a plethora of Fujinon lenses. I have owned my X-Pro3 since it was released and I have never had an issue with it. Did you address the issue with Fujifilm?

So glad you posted this...I thought I was going insane with my X Pro 3. The shutter button lag or inability to work was driving me crazy. Adorama exchanged my X Pro 3 for another in the first 30 days when I explained the problem and the second one does it too. So the newer ones have not fixed this issue. I love this camera so I am not sure what to do now. Put up with it or exchange for an XT4 or X100v

So I have a very similar problem with my XT3, except I am pretty certain I know what caused it. It all started when I tried out a soft shutter release for the first time. I got the color and concave style I wanted and everything and was so happy to have an even cooler looking camera. Then, after about 1 day with the accessory screwed on, I took the camera out of my bag the shutter wouldn't fire sometimes. It would even double fire as if I had the camera in CH drive rather than S. Looking through the SD card later I found that I left the camera on when I put it in my bag and it fired hundreds of times until the card was filled with just blank photos. The shutter mechanism must have gotten bent or something whilst in my slim camera bag with the soft release on. Sadly, I took off the soft shutter but the misfiring still persisted... but only for a few days. To my surprise, I found that I could greatly mitigate the misfiring by putting pressure on just the rear half of the shutter button instead of pressing down right in the middle. Over time I found I had to be less and less careful about it, as if the mechanism got bent back to normal. If it remained as faulty as when it started, I would have sent it in to Fuji to get the top plate replaced, and I still may do just that in the future. I knew such problems could happen going in, but I had previously read about all the various precautions of screwing the thing on too tight and saw so many other photographers using them, so I was overly confident. My conclusion: Fuji cameras are not built to use soft shutter releases despite having the capability of screwing one in. It might just be a problem for our batch of cameras, but until I see Fuji explicitly address the issue, I will never use a soft release again.

I had an Olympus film camera repairman tell me that he is constantly repairing shutter mechanisms due to people using screw in soft shutter release buttons.

iN THE 90'S, I used to shoot Fujifilm AD campaigns and the first ever Fuji digital cameras ADS. When I saw a review about this camera just a few weeks ago I was impressed by how it replicates the film feel and the typical Fujifilm looks, which I used in the thousands back in the day. It's so add that this problem you have is widespread. I will have to look into this because I really want to have this camera.

Not sure if this is related.... I actually had this problem with a XPRO 2. I sent it to a Fuji repairer and they asked if I used a soft release shutter button. I said yes. They said that they don't encourage soft releases as they can harm the shutter turret and cause problems. I now have a XPRO3 as well as the repaired XPRO2. I haven't had the problem after I stopped using a soft release shutter button.

Hey man, I got the X Pro 3 when it came out and I still use it often. It never happened to me, but I think it's because I have the Dura Silver version. I've heard of the issue, but I didn't hear about it all that often. I abuse the heck out of mine, I'm sure you've seen our build quality tests at the Phoblographer before. I sold my X-pro 3 but I can say I've never had this issue personally. I don't even think I've heard of it before. Very bizarre and unfortunate for any one experiencing it since it seems hard for Fuji to replicate. If I was in the same situation I'd definitely get rid of it as well -- for me maybe in favor of a copy of the camera that doesn't do it

Interesting. I've had my X-Pro3 for almost a year and have yet to experience the problem you've described (but to your point, the way we use the camera may be quite different too). Getting back to the issue you and apparently others are experiencing, it sounds like a firmware bug. Almost as if Release/Focus Priority is affecting MF (which it's not supposed to). Out of curiosity, 2 questions: 1) what is your AF-S Priority Selection set to (Release or Focus)? and 2) did this happen with Fuji lenses mounted or with 3rd party lenses mounted (including those that are MF-only), or both? Have you ever had this happen in either AF-S or AF-C? Not trying to interrogate you or suggest even for a second that it's operator error. It's just that the more that can be learned about the conditions under which this is being experienced, the easier it might be for Fuji to apply a little of its Kaizen magic.

1. Release (though I’ve tested focus) and 2. Fuji lenses, third part gear is usually to test. I appreciate you asking. I’ve tried every manner of combination I could and again, really wanted to believe it was an issue on my part. I don’t think it’s firmware anymore because two years out, I feel like they would’ve gotten feedback from me and others to address it. At best, it’s a small patch that sneaked through QA, at worst it is a prevalent issue that most people may never encounter. I don’t have enough info to say, but hoping my unit can be fixed. Bruh I see you with the LV watch! Love my Xpro3 when I'm out shooting street, makes you feel more connected to your environment using the OVF and lack of screen to keep checking. Times I've been stopped about what I'm shooting I show the back and they just carry on. Recently picked up the XT4 though simply because I needed a camera to be able to record videos for youtube.

With the X-H1, I sometimes don't fully press the shutter, I think, which is why sometimes I miss the picture. But what also sometimes happens with both my X-H1 and X-T3, is that when the camera is on "timer delay shooting", it starts the 2-second timer countdown and then... nothing. It gets stuck with timer "0" on the screen, and I have to turn it off and on again. Sounds like a different but similar problem.

In my experience the shutter not firing right away has a lot to with the saving energy function which for some reason can’t be disabled. Sometimes I even notice it if I put the camera to my eye fast enough, there’s a lag on the electronic viewfinder just for one second, but for that one second the shutter will not fire if pressed. I do find the workaround is to shoot with the LCD open, there’s no shutter lag in that case (for me) but then… that’s the main selling point of the XPro 3, the experience of not using the LCD. Annoying. If I keep the camera to my eye there’s also no issues. I think the sensor recognizes it’s up to my eye and turns the energy saving off.

You can go in settings and disable eye sensor on, and you'll OVF framelines with no lag. Also put the camera in boost mode. I don't have any lag like this.

My X100f has that same problem from time to time I’m constantly switching off then I turn on as I’m about to shoot I found it’s less of a problem using a soft release button

I haven’t had that shutter issue. However, I noticed that when I’m in aperture priority mode, when I half pressed the shutter, the preview and photo would always be blown out, no matter what the lighting condition was. Ive tried back button focusing and had the same issue. It only happens with the first photo and then it adjusts to the correct exposure. I’ve since changed to only shooting in manual mode.

this is interesting that you are having this issue with the xpro 3. I bought mine the first month it came out and I shoot on the streets every week ... A LOT (my shutter count is probably around 300k) and I never had this issue.

What is that lens shown in the video, on the xpro3? It's also in the video named "Fujifilm X-Pro3 LONG TERM Review // 1 year and 5000". What lens is that?

I’d still love to get the Pro3 having used the XPro’s for years. I don’t think I’ve ever used that back screen though, so all is good for me I hope 😊👍

@@GajanBalan My shooting manner is pretty laid back so the XPro’s are perfect for me, but I can understand why someone who is more dynamic might find them (fault aside) to be a little scratchy. Sorry you had such an issue with your particular camera, but I’m pretty sure your next one will be no regrets!

Thanks for putting this out there. I'm an X-Pro3 user and this has been happening for over a year to me, too -- nothing, the first shot is blacked out, sleepy time, like 20% of the time. So you panic, fire a dud, and then you're finally back on (a second a half is forever). I thought it might have been an 'issue with the diopter wheel, but no. If Fuji doesn't wow me with the new sensor on the H2, I'll probably jump ship to Nikon. Just imagine a Nikon Zr for a second... oh my

I bought a brand new X-Pro3 and within 2 days of using it, I got the EVF Red Screen of Death!!! The EVF when viewing threw it was highlighted in Red, It looked like Focus Peaking. I called Fuji and they acknowledged the issue. They said it was only an issue with the original batch of X-Pro 3 cameras that was released. So I took it back and exchanged it for the X-T4. I currently have the GFX50R, X-T4, X100V, and the X-H1. I would loved to pickup a X-Pro3, I’ve even considered the X-Pro2. I just don’t believe the X-Pro3 is a stable camera. It hit and miss.

Hi Gajan, the XPro-3 I purchased in December is just starting to exhibit the same issue over the past week. The XPro-3 I rented around November also had it pretty bad. Before the rental company could respond to my report, though, I'd already fixed it, at least for the remaining 7 or 8 days that I had the rental. All I did was drop isopropyl alcohol into the shutter button, and try to spread it around with some presses, let it sit a bit, and then blow it out with air. I have a small portable air compressor, which gave it a good blast. About six weeks after returning the rental, I got an email from the rental company's test center sharing that the issue had not been reproduced on the camera. I might guess the issue is accumulated debris. I'll get a chance to test the theory with my own XPro.

That actually makes a lot of sense to me. I've had a lot of issues with digital cameras that were solved with alcohol or, maybe more appropriately, electronics cleaner. Most recently the erratic scroll wheel on a Ricoh GR iii and the back dial on an X-Pro 1. Dirt and debris can definitely cause an issue like this to happen and it wouldn't surprise me if you put your camera in extreme conditions like what Gajan is describing here. For my Ricoh GR it was probably just the pocket lint that did it lol.

Coincidentally my xpro3 button got a lot worse the past couple of days... Blasting it with air on its own didn't do anything but the alcohol+air seems to have corrected it mostly, for now, at least. A design flaw like this is really disappointing.

First off, thank you for acknowledging the "Popcorn Enthusiast" credential which often gets overlooked... Solid video brother. Such incredible images you captured with the Pro-3 but when you really shoot, you can make magic with any tool. Looking forward to seeing what you cop! Zero problems with my XPRO 2 and I love it

had that issue when I bought the Black version in the middle of 2020, noticed it immediately, sold it back, purchased another one a few weeks ago in Dura Black and didn't have that issue so far though, will see..., as well as I never had that issue on XE3 or X100F

not that I'll likely have money for it when it drops, but this really just solidifies in my mind to wait until the XPro4 drops before getting into that line. I'm still plugging away with an XT2 which i love, but i have been lusting after the Pro line with it's very stills focused design.

Great video! My shooting styles isn’t similar to yours so thankfully haven’t had those issues with my Xpro3. I agree with you. You shouldn’t have to change your shooting style for the tool.

6:33 I encountered the same problem. The local officer of Fujifilm official said this could happen because of clarity setting. My camera was back to normal after I changed clarity setting to zero.

Ugh, how frustrating. Yes I had this happen yesterday. Was misting moderately outside. Shooting birds at the lake. Have a soft shutter button attached on XT3. My first thought was some moisture had gotten inside and caused the plastic or metal to stick. Weird. Didn’t recall it happening before. Maybe once from shooting too much like a buffer issue as I use the rapid fire often. Took off the button and had no issues besides not having that soft button feel. Best of luck on your decisions!

Interesting…I never had this shutter issue. I had other problems tho😁. Now, I am curious, it occurs only when you turn on the camera/wake on the first frame, or randomly during a shoot. If it’s the first option, (and you didn’t try it already) try turning the camera on, take the battery out half way and put it back in (with camera turned on) and try to take a photo. If it doesn’t happen might be an electric coupler issue. Great video, Gajan👍. I loved mine but couldn’t stand the screen position, it messed up my entire workflow 😁

Great video and insights. Thanks Gajan! I've been intrigued by the Xpro-3 for a while. I can appreciate the idea for hiding the rear flip screen and I love the style. I currently have an X-T2 + Grip + a bunch of top-fuji lenses. I've been thinking about upgrading to an X-Pro (waiting to see what's new in 2022). However, I think I'm more interested in adding an X100 to my linup, and keep using the X-T2 for my interchangible lenses.

Were you firing from "sleep" or newly switched on? If on stand-by, the X-Pro (probably others too) is painfully sluggish. I switch off after every shot. Switch on and the camera is ready to go. Found that fix years ago on a Facebook page.

I bought my xpro2 because of your review. At first I had some real FOMO with the xpro3 but the more I played with my xpro 2 the more I fell in love with it. Put some good glass in front of it and it produced some very nice shots!

@@GajanBalan I think it's because of the neiche it filled. It's a camera for enthusiasts and adventurous photographers. It's not as sharp as a Leica, and it's not as durable as some of the canons and nikons at its price range. Its too complicated for the minimalists, but doesn't offer all the bells and whistles for the gadget heads and vloggers. I can see why a professional would be disappointed with it. A lot of pros that do shoot with fuji, like the fact that it's lineup is small and lightweight in comparison to the full frame selection. Making this an oddball in the fujifilm family. But I personally love both the xpro 2 and xpro3

@@treetheoak8313 until watching this I had the hope the X-Pro series was robust and reliable as I’ve been thinking to get one for street. Last year my entree into Fuji was buying an X-E4. Same sensor and imagining engine so I thought a cheap way to try to brand niche. It is cute and IQ is very good but the X-E4 disappointingly flimsy. The on/off shutter button feels like it could fall off at any time, even from gentle use. The port door is even worse. The photos look great - the feel of the camera is disappointing. I’ve come from Pentax (the full frame K-1 is still my main camera but it too hulking big and imposing for good street) and even their cheapest model K-70 is built like an absolute tank by comparison, nice feel surface finish and with buttons that are sure and luxury feeling by comparison to the X-E4. My first (antique now) Pentax from 2004 (18 yrs this month) is still working faultlessly. I can’t see my X-E4 being faultless after just a few years. I had wondered whether to get out of it early and go to an X-Pro 3 but now I think I’ll sit on my wallet.

I think it took a lot of integrity to mention this issue knowing your connection to fuji. Kudos to you for bringing this to light

I didn't move forward with the XPRO3 because of this experience. Overall I think the shutter button needs a redesign as I felt it was always too stiff to push down to create an image.

Yes, have two -totally cack-handed at changing lenses - and they are completely different on the pressure needed to autofocus. The smooth and easy to use one is on the basic black. I recently saw a dura going reasonably cheap (perhaps this is why) and it requires concentration. Still love to use them though

Interesting. I had the same issue with my X-E3. Then after several months (and for different reasons) I started using the electronic shutter and mostly manual lenses. After watching this video, I have realised that I haven't seen this problem for the last year.

I have an XE-2S and have also suffered from this at times. I would almost accept it if the lense cap was on, but because I can't replicate the situation I have not dug deeper. Changing the shutter type is a good clue. Thanks.

I was a Sony a7iii & a Canon user before but now I own a xe4 with the latest firmware and never had this issue. I use it for street photography. The shutter never failed on me. Just sharing. Give it a try you guys it's a nice camera for street.

What are your thoughts with XT30 ll compared to xprro 3? I want to buy one and now after this video I am rethinking . Cheers !

Interesting. When I first got mine I didn't' have this problem then it started occurring. I actually had it sent to Fuji and they replaced the top plate for me. It was fine for a bit then came back. I sent it back again, and they claimed to not find any issues, though I could feel that TINY bit of lag between the shutter press and the camera. Still love it regardless..

So yeah...I had this problem too, when I first bought an X-Pro3 around it's release time. It really started acting up when I was shooting run and gun documenting the protests here in the US, back in 2020. It was actually the driver for me to switch my main camera system over to Sony, because I had issues with the X-Pro3 being inconsistent in it's performance from not engaging shutter when turning it on, to slow EVF performance, where I would literally be shooting but the EVF was black. And I went through this with two X-Pro3's. I finally sold mine off last year. But then this year came around, and I really missed having a rangefinder style body. I was eyeing the Leica M10 which I had previously owned a couple of years ago but sold (long story), but can't really justify the cost, while retaining my current kit, so I entertained the idea of re-buying an X-Pro3, as a fun camera to have and not rely on it per se for performance or mission critical photography...basically relegating it to personal projects and street photography. Well I'm happy to report that this version of the X-Pro3 I've bought does not exhibit the issue. It's much faster, doesn't hesitate or lock up, like the others I used to have. I'm guessing maybe Fuji improved on it's design and maybe fixed it? I have no idea. This time around I actually bought the silver instead of the black, so I hope that's not the differentiator to this issue. Anyhow, I think you are still making the right decision. The camera hasn't been working for you, and I think it's healthy to switch it up every once in awhile. Maybe you'll come back to it like I did, as a fun camera and especially one that you don't necessarily have to rely on for your livelihood. Now I'm very curious what you are switching to! My first guess is Leica, because you have been eluding to that for awhile and are always hanging with Leica heads, so I can only assume the influence and pull is real! And it is the natural progression for many X-Pro users! Only other guess is that your going in a completely different direction and looking at something like the Canon R6 or R5 which you have not reviewed yet and I think I may have seen a tweet about you testing one last week?

@@GajanBalan Another game changer I discovered in settings that improved my overall stability and performance on the camera was turning off the EVF eye sensor full stop. It’s located in Screen Setup - Eye Sensor Settings. Set the Shooting setting to Off. Made a world of difference. Not sure if it eats up more battery because the EVF stays on but I can tell you when I turn the camera on and begin shooting I have not experienced a failure yet. It actually boots up faster than my Sony and I can shoot right away. Just thought I’d share that in case you haven’t tried that yet as well.

@@syrcular This is the comment I have looking for all over the internet! I have read uncountable article reviews and watched endless youtube videos just to find out if the eye sensor in the xpro3 can be disabled. I was going nuts with the lag switching from LCD to EVF in my XT20, where literally half of my shots were missed because I would just look at a black EVF whenever I raised my camera to my eyes. This is an issue that although exists in the x100s too, it doesn't make you miss the shot there, because even there's the 0.5-1sec lag until the EVF turns on, you can still see the scene through the OVF in the meantime and compose. But I understand that you cannot overcome the problem like this in the xpro3, because there is no switching between LCD and EVF but just EVF activation through the eye sensor (so you pray each time for the EVF to wake up fast). So it is really a relief to find out, after all this endless search on the internet, that the eye sensor can be activated. You're a life saver for me --thanks for this comment.

I don't have quite the same shutter problem on my Pro3. What I notice is an inconsistent lag, not a shutter failure. Turn the cameras on, bring it to my eye and press the shutter, brief lag (less than "one elephant" but often the smile is gone or the eyes blink) and then it fires. This happens maybe once in every 20-30 instances, every other time the shutter fires immediately when pressed. Full manual everything by the way.

Interesting, I've heard versions of this too. I think I may have encountered it once or twice and just pulled the battery in an attempt to clear any cache memory on the camera.

I I countered the same issue with my xpro 1 . But to me, it’s not a big deal. I still like the camera. It gives great pictures

I had this issue when mounted the 16-50 wr. Haven’t experienced with an adapted lens yet. Was annoying when happpene, had to press harder longer to shoot.

This one: Fuji XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II

I got an XPro3 in December 2019 and have loved it since. I have done quite a bit of event photography with it and some limited travel and street photography due to a lack of travel and COVID. I upgraded from an XT20 and am just a Fuji fan overall. My two problems with it have been the spotty eye and face detect which I can't quite figure out what I'm doing wrong and the poor fitment of the USB and headphone jack door that causes it to shift ever so slightly when closed and touched. Does any XPro3 user have an insight into these two issues?

Gagan, I did some tests again. No issues, even when I let the camera go to sleep mode, it starts right up and is ready to shoot....

I have numerous Fuji bodies and every Xpro body including the 3. It is the best camera I have ever held and used. Fortunately mine has been 100% reliable.

Yes! At last! I honestly thought that I was going mad. I have an X-Pro3 with this exact same problem and infact, I recently replaced it with a new one because I thought the shutter button was faulty but the new one has the exact same problem. I too will be getting rid of mine. As a wedding photographer you need a camera that will respond every single time and unfortunately the X-Pro3 (as much as I absolutely love it as a camera) is just not up to the task.

@@battlebornphoto Yeah it's so weird isn't it. A few years ago I reported a problem with the X-H1 (which resulted in me having to get rid of it) and people thought I was either making it up or using the wrong memory cards. I think it's pretty obvious that some models or individual cameras can just slip through the quality control cracks and have these weird little problems that can be hard to replicate or prove but this one 100% exists and is so frustrating.

I own an Xpro3 but i have never had this happen to me. I mostly use it for street photography and personal work. In my studio I have an XT2 set up I use separately so I hardly use my Xpro3 when there. Suddenly I'm worried I may find this to be a problem in the future (not trying to anticipate it however). Is there a chance this feature could be fixed in an update?

Maaaaaan, solid video. The X-Pro 2 gave me “Turn Camera Off And On” When i got it at launch. I went through 3 of them. The X Pro 3 just wasn’t something I liked and I immediately rejected it. I have a solid X Pro 2 NOW for the Fuji feels. For the latest generation, the XT4 is my main. It’s been SUPER-solid. I’m so down for Fuji however the landscape is evolving. Fuji has SERIOUS competition and it’s user base is aging and probably can afford more than one system for hobby, business or pleasure. Thanks for the video bruv!

Thanks for sharing. My hope is that this isn’t as common an issue but I’m just seeing more and more people confirming the problem.

Is it simply just the matter that the camera goes to sleep to conserve battery life and that the first shutter click only serves to wake the camera up? If that were the case wouldn’t a simple double tap of the shutter to as you raise the camera up to shoot insure that the camera would be awake by the time you look through the viewfinder? While unwelcome, it doesn’t seem to be that big an issue to me if you otherwise love the camera. In fact I remember when I used to shoot Canon DSLR , I would periodically do a double tap on my camera just to insure it was awake when As I anticipated a decisive moment . Also, would it be possible to turn off this battery saving option in the settings if this was the cause of the issue? As someone who is consider getting this camera I am interested in your opinion about this.

This happens outside of any sleep/idle modes.

I have an xpro 3 and an xt4. The xt4 has far superior focusing and face recognition compared to the xpro 3. It is also way quieter, which is better in public. It also doesn’t sleep on me as much and it’s easier to wake up. The ibis is also important on the xt4

Bit late to the party here, I own an XPRO2 The random extended shutter lag problem is the same on this camera too. I only use it as a non work camera so its not as critical but its sill an issue. surprised to hear its a thing on the 3 as well

Interesting problem. Has any reason been found?...The shutter button, when pressed...does it contact a " flat" with some width or it contacts a point. Can the button shift, even if just a " smidge" and though pressed does not contact the release?.....Is this camera still being made?

With no official reasoning from Fujifilm, everything is just a guess. They must’ve seen numerous repairs from this issue so there has to be one common denominator.

Never noticed this issue. I usually turn it off between shots unless the next shot is right away. Is it powering down? I set my power down setting to 15 seconds and I seemed to duplicate the problem.

I had similar problem on my Fuji xe4, I update the firmware for my camera and checked the firmware for my lens to make sure it is the latest version, the problem then got fixed.

Same issue happens on my X-H1. Both glad and not glad I'm not the only one.

You can solve this easily in the menue: AF/FM -> Release/Focus Priority and then different for AF-S and AF-C -> Focus or Release. If Release the Camera always shoots. Otherwise if Focus, you can press and the Camera takes the picture at the Moment, the focus is Perfect. I think, if focus is not found, you have the effect, you described.

If you watched the video he said it even happened in manual focus mode -- where the focus/shutter release priority setting doesn't matter

great video, its usually hard for me to stay this long in a video, but youre a great presenter and teh content is very good!

P have the same problem with my X-Pro3. I also get 'black frames or an overexposed frame in Lightroom as a result. Have you contacted Fujifilm about this issue? There may be a simple firmware update that could resolve the problem.

I have in the past and actually shipped the camera to them yesterday. I’m sure this isn’t a software issue given the amount of people that have sent theirs for repair and no firmware has addressed this in two years. We’ll see what happens.

My X-E3 does this - it is exactly they way you have described it - no matter what I do, it periodically does not release the shutter. It drives me nuts. My X-Pro2, X-T2, and X-H1 have never done it, but maybe it is only a matter of time.

This was happening to me the other day with my Xpro2. I was toggling a lot between view modes and ovf and evf. I think it had something to do that. I’m more afraid of the xpro3 sub monitor failing than anything else, but I guess I’m risking it come next tax time. I was recommended to get an extended warranty just incase.

Funny seeing this teaser after just finishing watching your older love letter to the X-Pro 3; are you moving to just a GFX and X100V kit? 🧐

I had a Nikon D3s (from new) which I could not trust, totally frustrating. Traded in for D4s which I loved. At 380,000 shots I traded in and now shoot Fuji, back where I started my digital experience many years ago. Be lucky stay safe.

This is crazy ironic for you to share your grievances on this camera and for me to face some similar issues too! Thanks for the video and I think there will be an X100V in my future soon!

I have the xpro2 and it happens to me sometimes happens to me when I quickly attempt a shot. Owned the camera since it first came out and I use back button focus. Puzzling, this glitz in the matrix

I’ve experienced the same shutter release issue with other Fuji cameras.

I also noticed on mind that it has a major delay when using ovf (full manual settings, back button focus, boost mode, release priority yadda yadda), vs normal with evf. Shame because I was looking forward to learning ovf)

Worked out this is a seperate issue related to the erf focus window thing.

Did you reach out to Fujifilm regarding this issue? Might be fixed by a firmware update?

Gajan, X-Pro3 shooter over here. I've never had the shutter problem you described but I believe you when you say you've had it as a reoccurring issue as did Chuck when he mentioned it to you as well. Equipment manufacturers will always produce products with defects that never show up during QA, only to rear their ugly heads when the product is being utilised in a real-world scenario. I've owned several Fufjilm cameras over the past few years, and of all the cameras I've shot with the X-Pro3 is by far my favourite. It felt right in my hands, Day 1, and I only shoot it with M glass, mostly Voigtlander and a few Chinacrons from 7Artisans and TTArtisan. I use it as though I'm shooting with a Leica M camera without the associated cost. The investment for me is in the lenses not the camera body per se. Mind you, there are some quirks with the X-Pro3 that are a bit annoying especially when it comes to the ISO/Shutter Speed Dial but all-in-all, the LCD doesn't bother me one bit. I don't see any difference in shooting with it hidden than I'd see shooting with a Leica M-D. I look forward to hearing more about what you decide to replace your X-Pro3 with. As you've said, choose the tool that works best for your style of shooting.

@@GajanBalan I'm sure it will be addressed either in a future firmware update or when the X-Pro4 is announced.

From what I’m hearing from a large European retailer, the X-Pro3 is nowhere near the success that the X-Pro2 was. Of course the first months you get the early upgraders, but that died relatively quickly. The fact that the camera is hardly in stock can also indicate that there’s not a large appetite to keep stock… The problem you describe is indeed a known issue and not solved yet to my knowledge. The X-Pro2 has a similar issue when getting out of sleep mode. You often have to half-press the shutter release button a few times to wake it up, depending on your settings. I dearly love my X-Pro2 and I had the 3 for a while until I returned it. Not so much because of the screen, but mostly because of the lack of dual-magnification in the OVF.

I've only ever had this problem on Fuji cameras when using a soft shutter button, I think it alters the shutter button mechanism slightly.

I thought it was that too, and tried removing it. Still didn’t help overall.

My xpro 1 and 2 do it too. Thought it was just my copies since i got both used and maybe the shutter button was a bit warn until i saw this video. I’ve missed some shots on the go because of this. my Nikon d3 is beat to hell but does not have issues like that.

"sticky" shutter button... happened on my X100t.. its the pin down in the shutter button on the "old school" style shutter button. Fuji repaired mine..

I dearly loved the concept of the X-Pro 3.... and upon buying it 2nd hand, discovered that it really doesn't serve my shooting style at all. In the same way a flippy screen doesn't either. I *hate* that flippy screens have to be folded out like a wing to shoot waist height. The X-T2's tilt on 2 axes is king for me. That said, I love that the X-Pro 3 was made... I just probably won't get the X-Pro 4 unless they revert, or have two options.

If you shoot verticals, or ever film yourself, the flippy screen is invaluable.

I've been an Xpro shooter for several years using them both for pro work and my own work mainly travel and street. I was a huge fan of the XPro 1&2 and was sceptical about upgrading to the XPro 3 not because of the flippy screen but because they changed the optical set up of the OVF which meant it wasn't great for wide angle lenses. However I eventually bit the bullet and ordered one. I loved the camera but experienced the same issue you described which really annoyed me. In the end I switched to Leica M series and never look back but kept hold of my XPro3 because it was more versatile than a Leica M for some work. What I discovered is the problem can be rectified if you only shoot in RAW and set the drive to CONTINUES mode. For some reason (that no one can explain) if you have camera set to RAW+jpeg and single frame this causes misfires. It's bonkers and you would have thought this could be easily solved with software upgrade. I also found this problem with my X100F and agin switching to RAW and Continues seemed to solve the problem.

I may have missed it but did you say this would only happen when the camera is in full manual mode or in any mode?

Both, it didn’t matter if I was in manual or AF, waking from sleep or idle. Very strange and specific problem.

The shutter delay issue. Could it be the focus priority? Like where it is set to release priority or focus priority.

Nah, I switch these to release priority and even with manual focus this issue creeps up.

Mine does the same thing. It’s kept me from using it. I turn to the x100v most times.

I dnt have a xpro 3 but I have a xpro 1 and after every pic I take. There's a 3-4 waiting period before you can take another pic. Granted it's old and on top of that I dnt use any automatic lenses.
