Switching between 13 languages mid-conversation | Inside my polyglot mind

Hey guys! For those of you new to my channel, hi! I'm a polyglot KZreadr from South Africa and this is my wacky channel intro. My aim for this video was to see how fast I could switch between languages mid-sentence, mid-thought or mid-conversation. It might confuse you to follow all the switches, so I added flags to indicate the language at the top right, and I kept English subtitles for every spoken part.
I always try to be honest and transparent with you guys - so here's my real, unscripted, updated polyglot self introduction/channel intro!
Kinda nervous to upload this cause you guys can totally see how I haven't improved much since the previous polyglot video, har har.
I hope you enjoy it! I tried some new editing styles as well, so feel free to let me know what you think. If you have a polyglot intro video too, link it in the comments so I can check it out!
Languages spoken in order of fluency (not order of appearance)
English, Afrikaans, Korean, Japanese, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Hungarian, Indonesian, Arabic, Hindi, Tagalog.

@@verdakorako4599 Yeah if your brain is expecting one language and another comes out it's often a while before you can understand anything. However, there was one time where I subconsciously changed language without realising. I was speaking in Spanish, said 'Paris' in a French accent, and then switched to French for the rest of the sentence.

Ugh, switching languages so fast makes my brain freak out a little, lol! That's why I stopped trying to learn Spanish and Japanese at the same time. My brain would be pulling words from both vocabulary pools at the same time, and I would be trying to think of a Spanish word but could not even remember it in English. Only in Japanese. But I've finally reached B2/C1 level with Spanish and will be moving to Argentina soon, so when I get settled I plan to pick up Japanese again!

In my opinion it's also better if you use Kanji right from the beginning (learning the stroke order, pronunciation,... ) but that's optional (most textbooks also start pretty late with learning Kanji) PS: I don't want to sound like a language expert (I mean I'm obviously not), I just wanted to tell you my opinion...

@@kleedom It sounds like a lot, but you get used to it, and it's so satisfying once you get it down. I agree that you should learn all 3 writing systems eventually, but start with Hiragana first. Then when you can read/write it fairly comfortably, start adding Katakana. You can start learning some of the more common Kanji in the beginning too, but go at whatever pace is comfortable for you. You will need all 3 systems if you're going to be reading most things in Japanese. You could probably find some manga that has Hiragana written above the Kanji in the text (I think there's a word for that, but I don't remember it). That would give you some good reading practice.

German is taught in school here and is relatively easy for Dutch people to pick up. Japanese is the only language I actually chose to learn lol. I really love your channel since I discovered it. There can be a lot of snobbery in language learning and you make it feel very accessible to those put off from that attitude in the community. (Everyone starts somewhere and it’s pretty mean when people have this concept of perfectionism, we all strive to improve but the reward is communicating with people, not the bragging rights). I think you are so grounded in your languages and passionate about it for the right reasons, that really comes through in this video. I’ve been learning Japanese for about 7 years and I always had this internal belief that I could only learn one other language (I guess when you are an intermediate level in a language, You realize just how far you still have to go and it feels like I can’t subdivide my resources!) but you’ve inspired me to reconnect with my roots and learn French and Irish again. Your channel is really inspiring, thank you.

I'm fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian, and often with my dad I speak in Russian with Ukrainian and English here and there. The problem is that I also started learning Italian a year ago, and sometimes a word only in Italian will pop in my head, but I know that no one will understand me if I get to use it (unlike other 3 languages). P.S. Мне кажется что для тебя итальянский будет очень легким в изучении! Я учу итальянский с английского, что очень удобно так как это родственные языки и у них похожая структура (плюс я изучала французкий один семестр, и для меня итальяский намного легче показался, так что тебе как носителю французкого скорее всего тоже не сложно будет). Но на удивление, очень много слов в итальянском я запоминаю через украинский, так как они весьма похожи - скорее всего наш язык много слов одолжил с итальянского, что было странно, но в то же время классно обнаружить:)

The script is a clusterfuck of mess so learning thai probably is hell from the beginning til the end for latin alphabet lovers already. not to mention 70% of the time the tones aren't accurately written so you need to hear the words from somewhere before to know how it's read correctly. This is why foreigners in thailand don't bother learning the language

This came in my recommended and now it made me feel more motivated to learn languages! I'm currently learning really different stuff(Scottish Gaelic, French, ASL, Morse Code), really quite a mix up. I'm really interested in anything that has to do with communication and stuff. Right now I'm working more on my French and some morse code, but I take some Scottish Gaelic and ASL from time to time so they don't fade out. Tapadh leibh, merci, salamat, and thank you! Good luck on your Filipino! 😄✌️

Idk how you do this because most people struggle a lot with the Hungarian pronounciation. If I meet you somewhere in Hungary and hear you say that "sentence", I'll think you're a native speaker. Like srsly. The "ö" sound in történt is also really hard for some but you did a good job.

It’s really inspiring to see how passionate you are about the languages you’ve learned and are learning. I wish I could be like you someday. I previously watched a video where you talked about learning Japanese, Chinese, and Korean together, and I found it very inspiring. I’ve been wanting to learn all three for a while now, but I had always thought that I had no other choice but to learn each language one at a time. I’ve actually been studying Japanese/日本語 for over 4 years now off and on, and I’ve started learning Mandarin Chinese/中文 2 months ago. I REALLY want to learn Korean as well, and even though I was told that it would be a bad idea to even decide to study Chinese and Japanese at once, I’ve decided that I can’t wait much longer to study Korean. I may decide to wait till I get my Mandarin to a higher level, but regardless, I know now that there is actually a benefit to learning all three languages at the same time. Also, I definitely think that my knowledge of Japanese kanji has greatly helped me read and memorize the look of the radicals in Chinese. I agree that Chinese grammar is seeming quite a bit simpler than Japanese grammar. I will continue to study both as much as I can! Thank you for making these informative and inspiring videos!

Keep going! My wife is Afrikaans, I love kpop, so of course I'm gonna keep up with this. I am intermediate at French and Spanish but all the other languages i want to learn im pretty beginner. I was almost fluent in French about 20 years ago after studying it in school and spending 6 weeks in Paris. I don't have many chances now to speak French but i have tons of Spanish speakers around me so that's actually gotten better without me really studying. Probably after Spanish, Africaans, French and Korean most important to me is Greek as my late YiaYia (Grandma) was Greek and i wish she had taught it to me. I have actually taken some beginner Greek courses so I've made start. Good to put those goals out into the world!
