Great vid. Bought a rotex 125cm a few days ago and I’m blown away by its quality and performance. Absolutely amazing, bar none. And indeed, as long as you keep the pad flat, there’s literally no dust!

if he wanted to really show the work he would have wet the wood or mention tht a cleaning rubber stick is good to save some pads. but then again at 10:11 he says: keep the pad flat on the surface... and that show that he is just using the sander for carpentry. for cabinetry you use a croissant shape area of the pad to avoid swirls and sand with grain starting right around 180. neither does he mention that rotary and excentric sanding are not done at the same speed. and neither does he mention that orbital excentric for carpenter is not the same as for cabinet maker or automotive sanding. Ever heard of 3/16 and 3/32 orbital swing. Its unfortunately a feature that is not offer by the bosch, Makita, festool polyvalent sanders. but soon if they want to reach out the professional that have the money for these tools.

I love my festool saves me tons of time sanding and the dust collector is awesome dust free sanding no dust in occupied homes thank you festool for a good long-lasting tool

great video 👍 but just one little detail ...... i work with both carpentry and and detailing ( most carpentry theese days) and the woolpad is most agressive of all pads when polishing a carpaint . i use it only whit the toughest polising compunds , its like a 4-5000 grit ish... then i go up to the softer sponge pads i have done it for like 20 years or so using mostly festool / Meguiars and some 3M // Joachim O.

Larry, is it possible to do a similar sand to polish with the EST 125 REQ even though is is a DA orbital for finish sanding?

Have you ever used it to sand a door? I am sanding some interior doors and then staining them. Used a palm sander that left swirls. Veneer may be one that can only be done by hand since it scratches really bad when you cross the grain. And all of the sanders will cross the grain. Thank you.

Hi Larry how does this stack up to a stroke sander on large pieces eg 3 meters 1.2 meters or 10 ft by 4ft would be looking using for finishing work as go down too 400 grit on the stroke sander

Can you polish a car with the Rotec 150?

So he uses Granat on bare wood but Festool recommends Rubin 2 for that. What's the difference? Is there any? Or can I just use Granat for everything?

Sure you can go from 40 to 80 to 150 very easy. I am a floor sander and I know about sanding . Specially with a machine like that you don't need to go 40,60,80 you can go 40 then 80 for good.

and don't mention nothing about the croissant shape area of the pad to sand with the grain or that on orbital you can choose between 3/16 and 3/32 sander? The different rotation speed you should switch to from 60/120 and 220/600? or the rubber stick that can clean the pads to save them for shear wasting...

@@jamesmurray5345 rotary blows up the orbital sanding to a 3/16 sanding effect. the orbital gets it down to 3/32 orbital. research it sanding is trickier than that.

I don't use my rotex up into the higher grits- I'll have to try it. However, I see differences in sheen across the board due to his sanding pattern. I don't when I'm using the RA setting at a similar grit. I also spend longer on the board. Of course, it's hard to tell when something is on camera and you can't hold it up to the light, or rub your hand across it and look closely.

He's using Granat, which is light blue. It's Festool's most all-around sand paper.

Kapt6911 But any paper will do. The Rotex doesnt care if its crap or not paper. Just make sure the holes match the 8 outer holes at least

Larry i recently purchased a RO150 and am having problems sanding out a butcher block. When i use the sander it has a tendency to want to jump or run on me. i tried both dual modes and the same thing....i then tried to adjust speed and suction on my ct36 and still wants to jump any suggestions or ideas????

Try holding your back hand further back. It's a balancing act with the big beast. Get the balance right and it will not jump and run away on you. That said hold on tight as the ro 150 is a beast

He buggered it up with too much pressure and lifting in rotex. You can see the buzz mark left at 7.14. Thats why he didnt show you the final polished product in my opinion. Rotex is the bollocks tho. Ive "edged" so many floors in high end jobs that its ridiculous. And then blending in while the screener also blends in gives it a flawless finish. Superb piece of kit

Hey man. I need to refinish the floors in a couple of bedrooms in my house. Do you think I would be able to use the Festool rotex to do the job? I would rather buy the festool than rent a floor sander.

That's roughly 13.7 million dollars worth of tools and storage behind him.

Bid Budy Full power all the time. Ive been sanding and re finishing floors at the high end of the market for over a decade and have never wished the vac to be lower than full! Hope this helps

ON high the vac creates enough suction to pull the sander into the material too hard and cause swirls. Manual says vac on low and it works really well on low.

Notice, he didn’t show us if there were any swirl marks up close at the end. Plot twist: he’s in cahoots with the swirl marks.

Would have had this done with my wooden smoother in about 1 minute...

Not showing the finished product at the end was quite an unfortunate oversight. We just kinda have to take his word that there weren't any sanding defects, and that the polishing/buffing made beautiful work. 🤷

Majority of people who hate on festool, have never used a festool and don't realize the results you can achieve when you pair the dust extractor with a festool sander, saw, etc. They just see the price and think thats crazy i can get the same kinda tool in my local supply chain store for $80. When you rely on tools to make a living you will understand... Its a sound investment

They always worked fine for me, but what do I know my woodworking only stared 58 years ago.

I hope that by this time you have learned that you can lower the volume of the recorded audio at certain points during your videos. For example, when running a loud tool. A tool we may want to wear heating protection when using in our shop or business. In this case, we are wanting to hear the person speaking and the relevant presentation of information, and then every fifteen seconds we are blasted by the 150db whine of the tool, for an unknown length of time. Turn volume down, turn volume back up when the speaking resumes, then back down when the tool whine starts back up again. You can do this with FREE software, btw.

Woodglut is nice for that.

James Williams I must admit that I don't really care where it comes from. I've got tools from all over the planet. In the end what matters to me is effectiveness and reliability.

So the entire time he keeps saying “but wait till you see the finished product”... Then, he doesn’t show the finished product.... I would never buy, just because of this video... Waste of my time.

Festool overpriced average tools

I wonder why Festool is so insanely expensive given that they make mediocre quality tools. If you're familiar with AvE's channel, he has broken down several of their tools and shown the stupidity and the cheesiness that went into the design and part choices. It's weird that they're able to rape people so easily. But then again, many high priced cars sell easily and score the poorest ratings in Consumer Reports or other evaluators.

Joe Framer I'm a finish carpenter and I could do quality work with Harbor Fright or Ryobi. However, those brands don't last and feel cheap in the hands. As one gets older and has a bit of money some like to purchase tool that feel good in the hand and have features that aren't available in other brands. Thank goodness we have the choice as to how much we want to spend. Harbor Fright, Festool or anything in between. Isn't that wonderful?

I always find the more people need to tell others how good or badass they are, the more they really aren’t.
