Tool has been my favorite band for the last twenty years, upended only by Sleep Token last year. I'm glad you're checking them out, they are a cut above most.

Conversely, math music critics with furled brows mock how this doesn't "meet" ir create the Fibonacci sequence or whatever. As if there ever was one. 🤓 Honestly, I could not care less. For me it's when all the crazy beats come together. That feels what nature's like. Chaos and harmony.

Haha you're right that Tool fans can get a little, uh... excited (to put it mildly) about the band. I haven't been on the Tool hype train in a while, but this is just a really f*cking good song tbh. The non-wall-of-text-spiritual-stuff explanation of this song is that they noticed some Fibonacci patters in the time signatures when they were composing it, and decided to run with it and make it part of the song. So there's lots of references to the Fibonacci sequence and spiral in both the rhythm and the lyrics. Basically, just as the Fibonacci sequence approaches the "perfect" golden ratio, we should strive to improve and keep going and work towards our perfection. I'm not really into the whole spirituality deal, but it's a pretty nice message regardless.

Perfect Reaction. Just feeling the moment and forgetting the camera. I had the same introduction to Tool as you with Guitar Hero and didnt like the songs back in the Day and today, theyre by far my Favourite Band of all Time. The best Thing is, the Songs get better and better with each time you listen to them!

I remember exactly the experience of playing GH:WT back in the day and struggling to play Tool. In retrospect, those songs weren't the hardest songs they could have chosen. Anything not 4/4 was pretty tough for a lot of people, I think.

One of Tool’s gifts is fooling us into thinking different time signatures are “odd”. Their many talents include exploiting these signatures to challenge the perceived boundaries of contemporary, western music to help us better understand the value of music and its unlimited capacity for diversity and innovation.

Starting your Tool journey with Lateralus is like a geologist starting a trip through North America at the Grand Canyon.

I haven't listened to everything they've done yet, but my favorites so far are: "The Grudge", "Schism", "Pneuma"... The live version of their earlier track "Sober" is also worth watching. I wanted to buy a ticket to see them live this summer but they are asking for, like, 200€, I'll pass...

You need to listen to “The Pot”. I always think that’s a great song to start the journey with.

You mention being "in the moment", that's part of the Tool journey, especially if you see them live. They don't allow filming or taking pictures at their concert and that's one reason, people shouldn't concentrate on their phones or cameras but enjoy the moment, forget about what's all around and just take it in. Watching people lock in on the rhythm they choose is now my favourite to watch because they’re all diff and all good. It’s like throwing multiple balls to a dog.. terrible analogy but, they’re not the radio. They’re overwhelming at first. Fun video! 😊

Tool is awesome man. They have their own sound for sure. Intricate music. Especially the drummer but the whole bands dope. Descending and The grudge are my faves. Subscribing for more. Also you should check out Nightwish: Ghost love score live at wacken 2013. Cheers

What you describe in the 13:00 mark is exactly the key to listening to Tool in my opinion, stop counting and trying to find the rhythm, just let is wash over you and it'll find you!

So many of Tool to be checked.. But the totem one you've just did. My suggestions for start would be: Culling Voices, The Pot, Parabol&Parabola (together), Invincible, Jambi, 46&2.. Ok, I need to hold my horses :D Anyway, you won't be disappointed listening to any of those :)

If you aren't an odd time sig guy, Tool is a great way to learn them. Listen to their songs enough and you will naturally pick them up.
