    Hands down my favorite Tool song it is just amazing on so many levels. I want to point out to you though a view of things involving the "Swing on the Spiral" lyric. The Fibonacci syllable count he uses... Black(1) then(1) white are(2) all I see(3) in my infancy(5) red and yellow then came to be(8) reaching out to me(5) lets me see(3) there is(2) so(1) much(1) more and(2) beckons me(3) to look through to these(5) infinite possibilities(8) as below so above and beyond I imagine(13) drawn outside the lines of reason(8) push the envelope(5) watch it bend(3). So the Fibonacci sequence he is using there lyrically is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 5, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 8, 5, 3. Which is basically "swinging" back and forth on the spiral not endlessly spiraling out. To me it references the fact that the further you go into the unknown the scarier it gets so you pull back from it. He wants to spiral out and keep going but he is only human so he does reach his limits and he stops and retreats back to the known, but he does eventually try again pushing a little further each time. So he is swinging on the spiral growing a little more with every swing because first it stops at 8 before going back, but the next time it reaches 13 the next step forward. That is just another way to look at it and how I interpreted it.

  • @robertsnell9404

    Actually. That's the exact opposite of what he says, he says.. He's embracing the unknown.. which is to accept, not to retract..

  • @Machete__Squad

    @Machete__Squad

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes the goal is to embrace the unknown, reaching out to it. However I feel the swinging reference is there because even if his plans and what he wants is to embrace the unknown he is still human, hence the line and still be a human and sometimes what you want and/or aspire to be is more difficult than expected and things are easier said than done. My interpretation doesn't contradict that the goal is to embrace the unknown and grow/evolve it is expanding on it, to say that once you do embrace it sometimes you bite off more than you can chew so you retreat to learn and grow from the experience, and then go further next time you try. Like I said though that is just one interpretation for all I know you could be completely right and I am way off the only person that really knows is Maynard.

  • @robertsnell9404

    @robertsnell9404

    6 жыл бұрын

    Jon Connor I know I'm right. How's that? You can't fear the unknown to reach the level he's speaking of, why? You only reach it after you lose all fear and embrace the chaos, embrace the unknown, the desire is all that matters, the desire for knowledge and wholeness is all that matters when you get to that level.

    soccerwizard975 if I heard myself a year ago I would have said the same thing. I was raised without church because my parents are from two different religions, then I went to college got a bachelors in information technology, met big movers and shakers and saw them low dosing shrooms to talk to what they called machine elves helped them become successful, did a deep dive into the occult to see if there were any hidden sciences that didn’t translate into modern science because these machine elves are seen by people who never heard of them and hallucinate even in a group setting people are describing the same thing together, then I find out about the lucifarian pedovores who blackmail politicians for power, then I find out there are organs in our brain with sensory receptors like our pineal gland, and then I had a dream and saw Metatron’s cube before I even knew it existed. Quantum mechanics proves there are more dimensions than we can currently perceive, just entertain the idea that inside our brains there are eye or ear like organs that can sense other dimensions and hallucinogens or meditation allows you to control your mind and the minds of others.

    I absolutely love your guys reactions to this. I'm a long time tool fan, coming across them on the second stage at Loolapolooza 93 in Vancouver. I think your reactions perfectly illustrate the primal and emotional that is the foundation of Tool music. Throughout the song, Sori, is listening intently closing her eyes feeling the emotional aspect while still at times connecting to the primal with head bobs etc. Vin, is touching the primal mostly with moments of emotional introspection. The best is at the end when you both descend into the primal power of what you've heard and the powerful emotion that it provokes. Love it, and hope to see you at a Tool, Perfect Circle or Pusifer show sometime in the future.

    Great reaction,this song gives me goosebumps every time,weep like a widow,I believe the undertone of this song is Maynard wanting so much to connect with something higher than himself,the desire to really live since he is so heartbroken about life in general.theres a spiritual emptiness within that he wants to fill but nothing in this world satisfies it, so he takes it upon himself to feel the truth through music, to take his intuition beyond this realm.

    Their brilliance comes from their musical ability to paint such a picture for me. I can feel the music and listen to the lyrics and tune into something I cant feel with anything else. Other artists can do this but the feeling Tool gives me is undeniably unique, it feels brilliant.

But going back to when you two mentioned if aliens exist i totally agree with Vin, I mean how can we honestly say no other life is out there when we are just a tiny spec in the universe, Just thinking about the possibly infinite size of the universe I like Vin am 100% convinced that their is life somewhere out there. I love your guy's discussion's you are my favorite reaction channel keep it up.

    I stumbled on reaction videos completely by accident, so this whole concept is fairly new to me. Having said that, I love watching you guys react to music that I love. There's something tremendously satisfying about seeing someone exposed to something very familiar and cherished and sharing that experience with them. It makes me happy to see people focus and celebrate the common things that bring us joy but at the same time to be able to hear a point of view that doesn't perfectly align with their own but yet find merit in it. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more good stuff from you!

    This song might be deeper than you guys think. When Maynard sings "As below, so above and beyond", this is a Hermetic Principle: The Principle of Correspondence. "As below so above, as within so without". Reminds you something? "On earth as it is in heaven". Yes, it is the same thing, basically. There are seven Hermetic Principles. It's really interesting. Google it.

    An open mind is the only way to experience that which we are unfamiliar, curious and unaware of... to see the wonders beyond our minds and hearts whether it be unknown knowledge to spiritual connection to a peaceful center in this chaotic life that we all share... staying within our predefined boxes of the reality we grow to expect as the norm is a close minded path so break outside the lines and experience the unknown and all the possibilities that we may not even think exists... Much love!!!

    It's so interesting to watch people who are listening to the same music at the same time and how they individually react to it. For so much of the song, Vin tends to fall into the more stereotypical, hardcore mode with the furrowed brow and the headbanging/fistpumping to the beat of the music. Contrast that with Sori and how she closes her eyes and seems to feel a different part of the music that's playing at the same time with her head moving slowly side to side. To me, that's feeling the same music two completely different ways, but neither is right or wrong. It's finding that thing that moves you and latching onto it. So cool that music allows us to do that without each of us feeling like we need to convert each other to our way of thinking or feeling.

    The spot where Maynard sings "feel the rhythm" and Danny hits the quick double bass mid-syllable just gives me the fucking chills. You know how when two violinists or singers do a beautiful harmony together and it just has that perfect pitch or buzz to the ear? To me it feels just like that but between a voice and drums (and whatever else was playing in the background I couldn't identify). Does it hit anyone else that way?
