    We usually use brown/red sugar instead of white because it adds a certain sweet smell to it. I miss Texas, I miss sweet tea.

    So painfully sweet it made me cry... but, cut out (or significantly cut down) the sugar, and this is a perfect recipe/method for lemon ice tea.

    As a native Southerner I can honestly say I have never made sweet tea like this, but I approve!

    The first bit of culture shock a Southerner has up north is going into a restaurant, asking for a Sweet Tea, and receiving a glass of unsweetened iced tea with sugar packets. Every Mom 'n Pop, rib joint, grocery store restaurant (Piggly Wiggly, anyone?), and EVEN FAST FOOD keep sweet tea on tap. I owe my love of all tea to having sweet tea down at my Great-grandad's farm. If you can get it, American Classic Tea is excellent; it's the tea I grew up with since it grew right up the road!

    hm... i'm from tennessee, and i've never seen it made this way. i tried this recipe, and it was a tad sweeter than how it's usually made. maybe use 3/4 cup or 1/2 cup of syrup if you're gonna make it like this. we usually just dump the sugar in the tea, though. no mint, and usually no lemon. you HAVE to use luzianne, btw :)

    chloe carter I'm from TN too & I was just thinking this! Granny taught me to dump the sugar in when the tea was still hot, let it melt/blend, then do the rest. It's not as tooth achingly sweet - and def no mint, but sometimes we use lemon...just not on the older people cuz they like throwing the slices and going, "the hell...I ain't ask for no fruit in my tea!"

    There's two ways to make southern sweet tea actually. This one is more common in Texas. Many people in areas like Mississippi, Louisiana , and Florida do it a different way. Saying they're the same can inspire a reaction similar to calling a Texas man's barbecue the same as a Mississippian or Tennessee man's smokin all the same thing. Its basically the same ingredients done a different way but many argue it makes a world of difference.

    This is almost exactly how my family makes it (Southern Missouri), except we skip the simple syrup step. Instead, we add the sugar to the steeped tea while it's still hot and stir until dissolved, then add the cold water and ice. It's faster and the sugar still doesn't settle.

  • @junglekiity
    @junglekiity11 жыл бұрын

    Carolina girl myself, and we only use one cup. However, if you use more tea bags, and let them steep longer, you need more sugar to counteract the bitter tannins in the strong tea. Everyone's home recipe is a little different.

    First, Iam from the south...and I dont make my tea like that. I boil water with the tea bags and will that is boiling I put sugar in the tea jug. When the tea is done, I pour the hot tea in the jug and stir. Then I fill up the rest of the jug with cold water and place the tea bags in it to sit in the jug( you dont have to do this). I also up a tiny bit of lemon juice. Aaaand its done.
