I've probably heard this song at least 2500 times in my life and it NEVER gets old. No matter how many times, it's just one of those songs that gets me fired up just as much as it did the first time I heard it over 40 years ago (when I was around 5 years old while my dad used to spin his vinyl records as loud as he could on Sunday mornings). I have such great memories attached to the early (Terry Kath) era of Chicago.

I grew up with this great band from the 70's-80's. They were a rock & roll band with horns & blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, & pop music. They had a lot of great songs such as "Make Me Smile", "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?", "Beginnings", "Questions 67 & 68", "Where Do We Go From Here?", "Free", "Lowdown", "Saturday In The Park", "Make Me Smile", "Colour My World", "Hard To Say I'm Sorry", "You're The Inspiration", "Will You Still Love Me?", "Look Away", "Feelin' Stronger Every Day", "If You Leave Me Now", "Old Days" etc.

@@robincochran7369 I'm with you. I don't listen to any Chicago that came out after the tragic loss of Terry Kath. I tried, but I just can't do it. The world missed out on a LOT when he became unable to create any more new music. I would have loved to have been able to find out what he might have done post-Chicago. I bet he would have delved more into the fusion realm, similar to what Jeff Beck did in the mid to late 70s, and I know it would have been amazing. 😪

Chicago is still killin' it today! Amazing group! Terry Kath was the amazing guitarist (he was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorites, btw!). We lost Terry far too soon from a gun accident. Terry did great lead vocals but you didn't hear him on this one. Vocalist was Peter Cetera the bassist. Robert Lamm (keyboards) also took lead quite often. You have DECADES to catch up on, my friend! Here for it!!!

"Saturday in the Park" is probably their most iconic ever. The group was originally called "Chicago Transit Authority and released their first (self-titled) album under that name. They were then sued by the Chicago Transit Authority transportation agency and had to shorten their name to "Chicago." They then released their second album as "Chicago," making them perhaps the only group to begin their recording careers with two differently-titled self-titled albums. This was Terry Kath (guitar) at his absolute fines.

I heard years later the actual Chicago Transit Authority used "25 or 6 to 4" or it may have been "Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is" (one of them anyway), in one of their ads without permission. Apparently when the band heard about it and pointed out the irony The ad was pulled. Whether this is true or not it's a good story.

Next try Chicago's "I'm A Man". It's 10 minutes of Terry Kath proving why Jimi Hendrix thought he was the best guitar on Earth, along with in your face drums and percussion, and funky bass, and both vocalists trading off, it's about as nasty a hard driving rock song as you'll ever hear. I just heard it again, and the guitar, drums and bass were SO overwhelming, I don't even know if there were any of their signature horns playing at all!

The group, Chicago started in the late 60s - and had quite a combination of instruments blending together. Of the original 7 members: 1) Peter Cetera - was lead singer in many of their songs. He wrote some of the music, and he also played bass guitar. 2) Terry Kath - played lead guitar, and actually was lead singer in a few of their songs. His guitar-playing was noticed by Jimi Hendrix who spoke very highly of him. Terry Kath's voice was quite unique also - he was a fan of Ray Charles, and when he sings you might notice that it sounds kind of like Charles. 3) Robert Lamm - played keyboard, and was the lead singer on many of their songs. Lamm wrote many of their songs and was gifted in songwriting. 4) Danny Seraphine - drummer. He definitely could play the drums! 5) Walter Parazaider played the saxophone. 6) Lee Loughnane - trumpet player. 7) James Pankow - trombone player who also wrote some of their songs as well. Each musician wasn't limited to the instruments that I had just stated, but those instruments were the ones they played the most. The band has had many changes over the years and decades, and exist until now: 11/12/23. They have had 37 albums from late 60s until this date of 11/12/2023. There is a current Russian group that plays many Chicago songs, and they play them very well. That group is called 'Leonid and Friends'. Leonid and Friends also play a few 'Earth, Wind, and Fire' songs - and they do it very well! Enough said.

This band has been great for years, although they did lose their punch when Terry Kath thought that gun was unloaded. Most members were college music majors from the Chicago area. What really makes this band unique is all the members were musicians in the truest sense. They wrote, composed, and scored the music themselves. Most could play multiple instruments, and most could sing. Even the trombonist occasionally would sing. I could go on and on, but I'll finish with this. "Ballard for a Girl in Buchannon" is a suite of songs written by James Pankow (the trombonist) which include "Make Me Smile" and "Colour my World". I personally feel this is a true masterpiece.

This was the original lineup of the group Chicago which started in the 1960s. This here was 1970. They are actually still performing, but with a different lineup. They have 37 albums at this time (11/08/2023). That lead guitarist name was 'Terry Kath' in whom Jimi Hendrix spoke very highly. Sadly in 1978, Kath took a revolver to his head, thinking it was not loaded...and BANG! He was only 31 years old when he died. It was a REAL TRAGEDY! 25 or 6 to 4 meant 3:36 or 3:35am. It was about a musician trying to write a song, and he was up all night - and now it was 3:36 or 3:35 am. The man didn't say, "Take Care", but he said, "Terry Kath"!. The man who said it was the one on the keyboard, "Robert Lamm." The one doing the Lead Singing - his name is 'Peter Cetera'. The group started in the late 60s, and started out with these 'SEVEN' - the original seven. The group Chicago is still around with a different lineup: they have 37 albums as of 11/08/2023.

Cetera (bass) and Lamm (keyboard) were up all night trying to write a song that they could incorporate Terry Kath's guitar xtreme talents. Eyes tired, red and not sure exactly what time was showing on clock. BIG and DEEP rabbit hole getting into Chicago. A little history: Their first album was titled after their name - Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Being threatened with lawsuit over the name use they changed their name to simply "Chicago". All were raised and schooled in Chicago; all but one were born there; several of them attended same music grad school where they got together and started the band. They were intent on incorporating horns into the music - not merely for background. Their influences were jazz, R&B with rock. All of their subsequent albums always used Roman numerals, ie: Chicago II (this song from that album), Chicago III, etc.. Little mentioned fact: Chicago was the 1st rock group invited to play at The Met in New York = their live double album Chicago IV. Terry Kath, guitar, was likened by Jimi Hendrix to being the better guitarist. Robert Lamm, keyboards, is an underrated songwriter/singer, does most of the writing - although several in the band have written some. They write AND compose all of their songs, except for "I'm a Man", off their CTA album which was a cover from an earlier release by The Spencer Davis Group (68 I think). NO rock group had more top 40 hits in the 70's. After the death of Terry Kath in Jan 1978, the band changed producers and the emphasis was more on Cetera's vocals (bass guitar and tenor voice range) whom is very, very good singer and underrated bass player as well, and their music became more ballad-styles.

This solo is recognized more than his overall talent. Maybe if he had lived longer his amazing talent would have been recognized more. I saw a very fitting comment once that Terry didn't just play a song, he lived it.

7:35 I think the term that you are looking for to describe that solo is "God Tier". I normally find guitar and drum solos boring, but not this one.

I grew up with them and finally saw them perform a few years ago. A few of the original members are still there and I am seeing them again in May. They sound amazing even today.

My favorite Chicago song ❤️. Chicago has some very amazing music. They were originally called CTA Chicago transit authority but had to change that for obvious reasons.

Great reaction! Terry Kath was one of my favorite guitarists. Jimi Hendrix had great respect for his playing. If you like extended guitar solos, check out "Poem 58" and "Liberation," also by Kath with Chicago.

You should listen to Ambrosia's "How Can You Love Me?" I promise it will blow you away. There were 7 original members: Robert Lamm (keyboards/lead singer) Terry Kath (guitars/lead singer) Jimmy Pankow (trombone/singer) Walt Parazaider (woodwinds) Lee Loughnane (trumpet/singer) Danny Seraphine (drums) Peter Cetera (bass/lead singer) Terry Kath died in January 1978; Peter Cetera quit in June 1985 to pursue a solo career (Glory of Love & The Next Time I Fall w/Amy Grant); Danny Seraphine was fired in 1990; Walt Parazaider underwent heart surgery in 2007, sorta semi-retired, then fully retired in 2021 when it was announced he'd developed dementia/Alzheimer's. I could go into the FULL history of Chicago, but I'll leave it here for now. However, if you want to listen to other great songs, here are a few: "Take A Chance" "No Tell Lover" Mississippi Delta City Blues" "Someday (August 29, 1968)" "Once In A Lifetime" "Follow Me" & "Once Or Twice".

This is hysterical. Glad to see video when Chicago was America's premier rock band. I forget the name of the sound engineer who stated back then that the 2 bands you never wanted to follow on Stage were The Who and Chicago.

Great group, always listened. What makes this group different from all the other groups is the use of the brass section. This is the equivalent of a 70's "Big Band". They are all musicians. This band was where Cetera (who you pointed out in a jean jacket) first got massive public attention. Chicago's sound hit the discos - good clubs had larger groups and brass.

Chicago with the guitar player Terry Kath has some of the very best early songs!! Jimi Hendrix was touring with Chicago someone asked him how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world and Jimi Hendrix replied it’s not me it’s Terry Kath!!!

The title, 25 or 6 to 4, refers to the time that the songwriter was working at when they wrote song, 25 or 26 minutes to 4 AM.

That Is one of the sickest leads in history…Even Hendrix bowed his hat to this man…Although Peter Cetera is singing this song, Terry Kath not only was a great guitarist but he sang with soul like Ray Charles or Barry White…!

Actually, the name of this band was originally the Chicago Transit Autority or known as CTA. After the first two albums the City of Chicago filed a cease and decease order against the band. They then became known as simply Chicago. When Terry Kath, the guitarist died, as far as in concerned, the band lost its heart and soul. They became pure pop.

It's great to see your generation appreciate this great music that came out of the 70s which was the best time in music. Chicago was a true musical super group. By the way Jim hendrix is quoted by saying that guitar player for chicago blows me away!0

Terry Kath, the guitist, is one of the most underrated guitarist of all time. He's definitely in my top 10 best guitarist ever! I've heard many guitar players say that they tried for years to copy that solo and could never do it! Chicago is my favorite band, second only to the Beatles. Check out a new band called LEONID & FRIENDS, who focus on doing material from Chicago. Love your channel, man! 😀😀😃😄
