American Bandstand really went disco during this era! They had their summer dance competition, usually the winning couple won a brand new car. This song was from,1978, I believe

In '76 the group, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band had a disco hit called Cherchez La Femme/C'est si Bon with lead singer Cory Daye. Their sound was big-band/swing/disco. The pronunciation of Buzzard is bew (like new) and zard (like yard). Around '80 they morphed into Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Their sound is a blend of disco/latin/big band. Two of their songs include Endicott (check out the video) and Going Places.

Amber, the great thing about this era is that if you had a steady partner, you could create routines but the rest is freestyle. You'd fit right in. I see you feeling the music. Just let your freak flag fly. Nothing sacred about free styling😊

So glad you reacted to this full album cut of 'Dance With Me" instead of the shortened radio version! This was a monster hit back in '78 and was also Peter Brown's most successful. Talented musician -- he also co-wrote Madonna's "Material Girl". LONG LIVE DISCO! 🪩🕺🪩

I think 1975 to possibly 1995 were an extraordinary time of creativity, style, optimism, joy, and music. More recent generations have had all the fun squeezed out of life. We went from a sort of an artistic Renaissance to the Dark Ages in just a few years. The party ended, though, and Cinderella's coach turned back into a pumpkin. And now, it seems, it was all a dream.

@MetFan37 We mean something completely different. In the spaces I inhabited, Funky got more airplay on and off the radio for a far longer period of time. It became an essential house music groove. It still gets played. Mainstream success does not necessarily represent musical footprint.

YES, YES, YES. This song was great for dancing way back in the 2oth century. You could just lose yourself in the groove and funky cool misic as you slid across the colorful lights on the disco floor. Songs like HOT NUMBER by Foxy. GLASSHOUSE by the Temptations. BOOGIE SHOES by KC and the Sunshine Band. SERPENTINE FIRE by Earth, Wind, & Fire. SHAKE YOUR BODY DOWN TO THE GROUND and BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE by the Jacksons. And even Jermaine Jackson after he scored a hit after leaving the Jackson 5ive called LET'S BE YOUNG TONIGHT. Rufus featuring Chaka Khan also had a song called DANCE WITH ME. You really ought to play that one, too. It is much different from this song. But it has Chaka Khan. Keep going and enjoy

Iconic.... Seventies Disco! Love it When every guy wanted to look like John Travolta with the suit, trim pants, and open shirt. The Ladies had tall shoes, Halter tops, and big bottom bells. Or skimpy thin clingy, reveling dresses. I loved to go Disco dancing in the Seventies. I also loved to dance to country, too.

His other big radio hit was "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" from the same year as this song, 1977. Those dance moves where you have two or more people doing the same arm movements and steps all synchronized, we called those disco line dances. I don't really remember how to do any of them now, but there was one called the Bus Stop that was popular, as well as line dance versions of the Hustle. There's a great song by the Fatback Band from 1975 called "Do the Bus Stop" that y'all would like. And most of the footage of dancers in this is from disco-era episodes of "American Bandstand," a music show similar to "Soul Train" but with beginnings in the 1950s. Amber, if you want to see how people danced during the disco era, check out KZread footage from that show for songs like the Bee Gees' "Staying Alive" and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love."

Boy this brings me back! I remember going dancing with friends every weekend. Even when I was under 21 - no drinks or drugs, just dancing!

This guy made his first records, including "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me", in his BEDROOM, and got signed to a record deal from sending his tapes to the label. Talk about the DIY ethos, he took it to the extreme and wound up making his mark on the scene.

Good to see this one. I think I suggested it a couple years ago. There is a super long LP or dance version too.

Thanks for this memory! I was in college and going out several nights a week when this was a hit. The dance floor would be full in just a few seconds when this song came on. Hard to believe it was almost 50 years ago!

This one seems to have been forgotten a bit and not played as much when disco music gets played these days, but it is definitely one of the best disco hits from the disco era. I think I like it more because it doesn't get overplayed.

"Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?" was Peter's first hit, and it took over the dancefloor in 1977. Late in 1977, TK Records announced that sales of the 12-inch version of "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me" had reached the million dollar mark, making it the first gold 12-inch single in history.[2] The album went gold as well.

I was 7, I found this new album in my stepfather's collection...that cover...lol...my little boy heart would race whenever I picked it up. ;-))) Let's just say it was a very sensual silhouette of a woman stand behind a window shade. This is like 46 years old and I still listen to this and "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" at the gym weekly.🥰🥰🥰 Also, Think - If you are a kid listening to this kinda music, you know we gon be Funky! This is why 90's hip hop is so FUNKY!

I just remembered to bring back a suggestion since Summer will be starting soon "Summer Madness" by Kool and the Gang would be a nice way to start the Summer off. The original 1974 album long version is just beautiful and Summer Chill. Another would be "Summer" by War. Speaking of funky disco jams I just thought of "Open Sesame" by Kool and the Gang. You two can "Get Down With the Genie". It is off the "Saturday Night Fever" sound track. You will love the horns.
