Story Behind the Music:
As you know, we love to reimagine iconic tunes. What musical “hook” is more recognizable than the opening guitar lick of “Sweet Child O’ Mine”? But go deep into your psyche and imagine what this legendary rock tune would have sounded like if it had been instead written by an emotional father of a bride for her walk down the aisle? Did we get it right? 😌👰🏼
We hope you can hear the bell chimes, the awe-inspired intake of breath, the heartfelt emotion, the heaviness of “losing a daughter” overcome by the buoyancy of “gaining a son;” the collective moments leading up to this life event; the hopes, the dreams, all underscored by the overarching joy of witnessing the opening of a beautiful new chapter. How does a father put into words this moment, when his daughter is flying away in order to fulfill what she is meant to become? Where words fail, music speaks. Our nickname for this special take is, “Sweet Child Divine.”
🎹 About the Piano:
The very special piano used in this video, called the Yamaha Pro2000, was introduced to the piano industry by Phillip Keveren and Craig Knudsen on behalf of Yamaha at the NAMM Show in the year 2000. Only a handful were ever made, with one of them ending up in the Smithsonian. This piano featured a split plexiglass lid that was the original “big brother” to the Yamaha “Neo” featured in so many other TPG album covers and videos (What Makes You Beautiful, Bourne Vivaldi etc.) over the years. Master Piano builder/technician (and Kurt Russell look-alike) Justin Elliot wrapped it in a very special reflective chrome for this “chilled out” look.
Exact Piano Location: 37.823500, -114.412676
🎻 About the Cello:
Steve is playing the ONLY TITANIUM CELLO in the world. “Athena Titania'' was designed and handcrafted for Steven by the incomparable Andy Halbert. Andy spent 270 hours perfecting Athena, literally shaping her in the refiner’s fire in order for her to become what she was destined to become. Andy would like to specifically thank Robin Ankrom, his elementary school teacher, who he reports is a Piano Guys fan. 😄

Steve, I am the parent that cried at sound check for this song at your opening tour in St. George. As I explained, I cried because I was missing my brother that just passed in September from complications from COVID. This song reminded me of him, but the way you played it definitely brought a sweet, ethereal sound to it. My brother was a recovering addict & was doing well in his life the past few years. He always attended my daughters performances & had attended the last time you were on tour & she was able to participate. My daughter also wept the first night she left the stage after performing. We both missed him, but above all, felt his presence with us that night. Thank you for this gift. Thank you for the wondrous talent you & John have been blessed with & thank you for sharing it with us. I know many times your music has uplifted me. Thank you again for giving my daughter the opportunity to perform with you guys. We share your common faith and know that the Lord works miracles thru your music! May you be blessed on your tour & may others be blessed by your talents! P.S Awesome cello for this video...one of the 38...Lol! What is this one's name?

I was in my 20s when the original Sweet Child was a hit (I'm a grandmother now :D), and my grown son knows it's one of my all-time favorite songs. When he told me, "Mom, you gotta hear this," I was prepared to be unimpressed. Now I've just finished listening for the third time... It's just beautiful! Truly stunning. I love it! One of the things I always love is watching musicians play with feeling. Moving with the music, smiling, crying, letting the music's emotions come through you. Watch a singer hit that high note and smile. Steve moving and smiling as he plays. You can't help but feel that emotion right along with them.

  • @HappyOddGirl

That was what drew me to their music as well - how they play with such depth of feeling. That's what I admire most in musicians. Virtuoso musicians are two-a-penny, but people who play with deep and genuine feeling are very, very rare. And for me, TPG are the best of the best.

The Piano Guys' videos and arrangements are nearly always some of the most beautiful I've ever seen on the internet, both visually and aurally. Looking at you today Jon and Steven (I know you're far from alone in the team, but you're the personification of it), I realize that I see you as fathers in a way: I have a deep sympathy and empathy for you and I think back to all the wonder you gave me during my adolescence and the influence in terms of inspiration that you had on the young pianist I was, so thank you for these 11 years of human adventure with its laughter and tears, its ups and downs... 🙏 Even if today I no longer share your faith, I'll be forever grateful for the emotions and sonorities, the beauty and joy that you've transmitted to the world at the beginning of this 21st century. 🤗 _A French fan since the first notes of "Michael Meets Mozart", 10 years ago (no, for real, it was with Jarrod Radnich's "Pirates of the Caribbean", but as it's no longer on your channel..! 😉)_

She's got a smile that it seems to me Reminds me of childhood memories Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky Now and then when I see her face She takes me away to that special place And if I stare too long, I'd probably break down and cry Whoa, oh, oh Sweet child o' mine Whoa, oh, oh, oh Sweet love of mine She's got eyes of the bluest skies As if they thought of rain I'd hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place Where as a child I'd hide And pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by Whoa, oh, oh Sweet child o' mine Whoa whoa, oh, oh, oh Sweet love of mine Whoa, yeah Whoa, oh, oh, oh Sweet child o' mine Whoa, oh, whoa, oh Sweet love of mine Whoa, oh, oh, oh Sweet child o' mine Ooh, yeah Ooh, sweet love of mine Where do we go? Where do we go now? Where do we go? Ooh, oh, where do we go? Where do we go now? Oh, where do we go now? Where do we go? (Sweet child) Where do we go now? Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay Where do we go now? Ah, ah Where do we go? Oh, where do we go now? Oh, where do we go? Oh, where do we go now? Where do we go? Oh, where do we go now? Now, now, now, now, now, now, now Sweet child Sweet child of mine

Hoping you will start touring again soon -- been way too long. A weary country (and world) needs you filling their communities with the joyful noise of TPG!

My son plays both piano and cello and is now a member of the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra since he graduated from PA School. I ❤ this song for our mother/son dance at his wedding on October 23, 2021 (it was previously canceled a year ago due to covid) I was wondering if you could do a cover of Beautiful Boy Darling Boy by John Lennon in time for the wedding?

For some reason I'd never actually heard this (odd, considering I'm a Piano Guys tragic!), but it brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful work! The whole concert was AMAZING. Looking forward to your next tour of Australia!
