Swedish Weapons on the Ukrainian Frontline: Archer, Strv 122 and CV90 in Action
The Swedes have long been known for their military craft. So, it is not at all surprising that the descendants of the Vikings continue to create effective weapons that today help Ukrainians defend their native land.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Sweden has transferred various types of weapons to Ukraine, which have already proved useful. Watch this video to learn more about the best Swedish combat vehicles available to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Why can Sweden with a population of 10 million be so technologically advanced while Canada with a population 0f 40 million has no military capability?
@hugodesrosiers-plaisance3156
19 күн бұрын
@@keithpeterson5127 Let's unpack that, there's a few layers. First, Canada does have military capabilities. Those capabilities are indeed relatively limited, however the training and efficiency of the Canadian military is often commented upon by allies during joint exercises. Canada also boasts the JTF-2 elite unit, which is widely regarded as peer to Delta Force, SEALs, SAS, etc. I have personally known a former JTF-2 member; at 21 years old, he was hunting Serbian snipers in Sarajevo. Top tier stuff, but with a very clear "defensive" mindset, i.e. keeping the city safe rather than going on the offensive. Second, Canada has historically chosen to position itself geopolitically in more of a support role; logistics, medical units, peacekeeping, etc. Third, Canada can afford to focus on such "less lethal" roles because it has no enemies within striking distance. Sweden on the other hand, is well within direct reach of a Russian strike. They NEED to be able to resist a direct attack. It's an entirely different situation.

I watched recurring reports on the news about their planes breaching our air space. I saw one of their submarines run aground next to one of our top secret military bases. Suffice to say the list is rather long. There was never any doubt as to who our enemy would be in the event of war. I hazard to guess this constant military threat might be the largest factor when it comes to answering your question.
All Swedish weapon systems are designed for defense against a larger invading enemy , and most are designed for "shoot run hide repeat" warfare. To grind the enemy down over and over. We could probably give more CV90s (gave 50? and have more than 500?), at least another 50, and more tanks (gave 10 out of 120), at least 30. And perhaps another 10 Archers. Could probably also give 1 out of 4 Patriot batteries. Should be enough to keep one for the mining area in the north, one for Gothenburgh and one for Gotland. But most of all we should scale up the artillery shell production. It is probably difficult to replace the equipment within a few years, but the potential risk for a land war in Southern Sweden must be very low and most threaths could be dealt with by the marine and airforce. The army is primarily needed in the North to help defend Northern Finland with CV90s, Strv 122 and Archers.

The problem with shell manufacture is that we only have one factory doing that in Sweden, and they're at capacity and have a lead time of a couple of years at the moment (as in, you place an order today, and get the shells in like three years or so). In addition, the factory is owned (via intermediaries) by Norway and Finland, so the Swedish government can't just step in and say "our orders take priority, get to it." My understanding is that they're working on modernizing their machinery which should increase production, but that's not something done overnight. There's also talk about starting up more factories, but that's also something that takes time - there are quite a lot of rules around building things that go boom, so you can't just open one anywhere. Long term, it would be good to have factories that can easily switch between production of peacetime and wartime stuff. Something like artillery shells in particular gets used at an alarming rate when the poop hits the ventilation system, but that kind of production speed is kind of wasted in peacetime. A problem of course is that modern manufacturing is increasingly specialized. I doubt that a scheme like how the British converted a lot of auto manufacturers into building Spitfires would work today.
@MrCABman1972
12 күн бұрын
@@jonasbarka The issue is not as problematic as people make it out to be. We need to increase production to support Ukraine that is true but not to help ourselves. NATOs primary weapon to deliver ordnance is the air force and not the artillery and NATO have shit ton of stored air launched munitions to offer. This is why the Ukrainians need to strengthen their air force to reduce their reliance of artillery. Artillery as a means to support ground operation is very costly in manpower and materiel. The only way to truly dominate on the ground is to dominate in the sky first. Ukraine needs about 2-300 modern jet planes and radar/surveillance planes to turn this war around. They might get this in about 2-3 years perhaps if we keep the same pace as we currently is doing. But they should eventfully get there, it is just so sad it have to take such a long time. Personally I don't think Ukraine can win without being able to at least have regional air superiority over a few selected areas of the battlefield.
@larion3296
12 күн бұрын
@@BalooSJ Even bigger problem is that the Swedish government should have started planning to increase the the artillery shell production already in summer of 2022 when the need started to become obvious. And early 2023 they should have ordered many more shells. The factories need large orders first and then they can start increasing the production capacity. And it takes probably a year to add buildings and machinery before production can increase substantially. The government was asked in the fall of 2023 about increasing the shell production and could not really answer, just that they waited on some some EU decision. They were embarrassingly late on the ball. In particular considering that Denmark and Norway have given considerably more support to Ukraine, and this is something that Sweden should be able to help with. And a documentary from the Swedish factory, filmed in late fall of 2023 I believe, showed a production line that was still partly manual. Even if they planned on using a robot for this part, and they might do it now, it was not what you wanted to see considering the desperate need for artillery shells in Ukraine.

CV90 will definately make the most impact out of all the systems delivered. Especially when they can start producing their own. Ukraine chose wisely to go for this vehicle for joint production.
I think Sweden will impress even more in future now when the factories there are producing more and more military equipment :-)
I read an article some days ago about an Archer taking out an Msta. Not gonna lie, that was a little bit of a national pride moment. That's always been the case for Sweden, punching way above your weight class. You kinda have to when you are only 10 million in a country larger than Germany.
Great report, guys!
The problem is just the amount of equipment and ammunition. Ukraine is a huge country so 10 tanks, 8 archers or 50 CV90 is better than nothing but just too little to make an big impact. All European countries really need to scale up their production. The US will not send any more aid in the coming 4 years so Europe has very little time to scale up and the decisions to do so needs to be made. It should not be possible for Russia to overproduce 30+ countries that are helping Ukraine.

I wish the EU and USA would come together and deliver a significant number of tanks. 50-60 tanks is much better than nothing, but 500+ modern tanks would have made a big difference. On a similar note, 1000+ IFV's like the CV90 and M2 Bradley, but other modern western IFVs. But critically for now is just artillery shells, ammunition, HIMAR rockets, drones, and lots of anti-air (anything from 20-40 mm autocannons to Patriot systems). Shell production has ramped up a lot since the start of the invasion, it's just not enough to meet demand, and the Ukrainian people suffer for it. I'm really happy that the aid package in the USA got through, but us in the EU need to get our shit together as well.

There are crowd funding and collection of money from some Ukrainian and foreign groups to donate drones to the Ukrainian army plus Ukraine is starting to increase its weapon production . Things could change unexpectedly...Everything is possible... Remember that although money and arms do play a big role in a war but there is something that money alone and military power can not necessarily bring into life and that is the goodwill to live and evolve ... Sing the song of freedom And allow life to be created to all you and me Liberty coming above the sea , Know the truth to set you free It is a better world for all to see Being reborn again is a key ...
