Look up Pecos Hank. You won't be sorry. He's a scientist/tornado expert/lightning photographer with such talent and has made observations not seen before.

I remember the Tornado Super-outbreak of 1974. One of the very-bad F5 tornadoes hit a neighborhood about 10 miles due south from where I lived at the time. I was just shy of turning 8 years old. We watched the storms from our front porch until the tornado sirens went off, then Mom made us all go down into the basement.

Here in Lubbock, TX we normally have one or two “haboobs” a year. It rolls In from the north and west. You see it coming, knowing soon the sky will be full of dirt dimming the sunlight and making it hard to drive.

That’s why houses in the Mid West of America has basements and storm shelters underground. They are terrifying . I was on the highway when one touched down. Terrifying. Thanks Matthew🎉

@5:30 "it feels like the farmers are always getting hit by these." A few reasons for this, a lot of these were in the past when much more of the country were farmers l. The dust bowl and grasshoppers were man made problems. The grasshoppers wouldn't have become so numerous without us farming and bad farming practices caused the dust storm. And the main reason, the states just have a ridiculous amount of farm land which happens to overlap an area that gets some terrible storms so you have to deal with it.

Unfortunately the Dust Bowl was mostly a man-made disaster, caused by a combination of drought and unchecked and over cultivation which depleted the soil to the point where it just turned to dust and blew away.
