    CWO inside that German holster is the mans US military rank. Chief Warrant Officer (CWO). It is highly likely that holster is a WWII GI bring back.

    Cool video! I've seen some around in the swedish pistol shooting community. There's a shooting discipline only open to pistols used by the swedish military at one point, so you sometimes see p38s being used.

    I acquired a P-38 from a family member and sold it back to him. It was from the Walther factory 1942. The original serial numbers X’d out by the Russians, they added their own. Covered with Waffen stamps, and a pretty well made example. I assume the Russians captured it on their side of the front somewhere, and it went to an armory, then was sold in a contract to a firearms dealer many years after WW2 and the fall of the Iron Curtain. My relative bought it a gun store in California but I cannot confirm that, though probably true.

    The name in cursive reads "Åke Granberg". There are currently 34 people listed with this name, although the previous owner of this pistol is most likely deceased. "Åke" used to be a very common first name and "Granberg" is a somewhat generic Swedish surname.

    Interesting, the grips on these Swedish contract guns are very similar to the ones on post war P38/P1 pistols.

    Sorry to say you got it wrong here 👍 First of all... there was no such thing AS a Swedish Contract !! It was a commercial sale between Walther and the Swedish Company Widforss. First sale to Widforss was 1000 pistols(999) and the second was on 500 pistols The Swedish Army did not buy these pistols, Widforss did and offered them to the Army. All the holsters also sold to Widforss was made by AKAH and again no special deliveries as said !!! The name Swedish Contract is mostly an American way to make it interesting. Also the Krutzhek book you have does not put the serial Numbers right. I hate to bring this up again an again If you need an book on this subject then Get the book «A Pistol for Sweden the m/39. The true story « !!!

    The m/39 is one of the reasons why Sweden started using 9x19 Parabellum .

  • @bengtjakobsson5177

    @bengtjakobsson5177

    I actually thinks it's the other way the m/39 is the result of Sweden started to use 9x19 mainly because it was easier to get SMG:s in that caliber. The 9x20 Browning was getting really long in the tooth by then.

    @@bengtjakobsson5177 as far as I know, they ordered a batch of machine guns and pistols from the walther factory the same year. do not remember where I read it.

    @@waffentobbe What i ment was that it was the SMG:s that drove the change not the pistols. Sweden had bought the Suomi SMG from Finland but they apparently wasn't too happy about continue making them in 9x20 Browning so a change was needed and when they decided to use 9x19 for the SMG the pistols must follow. Pistols have always been at best secondary in the swedish army and the Lahti pistols they bought (and made) to replace the m/39 was used until they finally broke down in the -80s, long after they should have been replaced.
