My favorite place name in Sweden is "Ölmevalla cemetery" you see in Turkish this is a one word made from 2 words. "Ölme+valla" first verb comes from "ölmek" meaning "to die" and "valla" means "honestly" but the word together kinda gives the meaning "honestly don't die" or "i don't want you to die" so for a cemetery, it gives a quite funny meaning LoL

I feel bad for the people living in Parineum, Sweden 😆 My family in California mostly live in a town called Los Banos, which is Portuguese for "The Baths", but in Spanish, which is much more common in California, it means "The Toilets", and lots of folks get a chuckle out of that.

You should have included the place "Handen" between the last two places.

For a Finn Mörkö is really funny, because in Finnish it is a sort of troll/monster.

Don't really know why but as someone learning Swedish, the town's name Gävle always makes me smile, probably because it reminds me of jävla, and it would somehow be in some sort of masculine declension... that and having watched too much Leif och Billy probably... Anyways, those were my two kronor

I never thought about it that way, maybe because the pitch accent AND the spelling is different.

@@sayitinswedish really gets to show how important pitch accent is for Swedish. Me being French, we have almost zero intonation so the similarity between Gävle and jävla seems obvious and even surprising that a Swede wouldn't even think about it. But yeah, I guess it means I gotta work on that damn uttal some more... also not be too hasty and try my chance at any pun, at the risk of falling completely flat!

@@VERMiiNE it's not thaaat important. I would definitely have made the association if one thing, either pronunciation or the spelling were the same.
