@@sayitinswedish Well, I wasn't crying BECAUSE of Swedish language. Swedish language was just there for me when I needed a pep talk about Stress, and that made everything better in the moment. 🙃 Yes, cathartic. It's all good 🙂Tack! 😀

@@sayitinswedish Yes! In a good way. BTW, I do watch your channel for the learning content, not just for overcoming sadness 😊 I am at the stage of learning Swedish where I am increasing my vocabulary, but still hesitate to construct sentences. I shall try now: Jag har lärt mig ungefär 1000 ord! 😊 (I hope that was correct!)

As a musician, I can understand the stress and tones of Swedish. It's important to listen to a native and duplicate that exactly, but it's not that easy!!!

  • @sayitinswedish

Very much information and very useful. Thankyou. 🙂 other examples which get totally different meaning when stressed in wrong way: tycker om (have an opinion about / like), skriva på (write over already written text / put your name under a text), skriva om (describe something / write a new essay), slå på (hit a button to switch on a device / hit the device itself)

Great examples of particle verbs! "Skriva om" means rewrite as a particle verb though, otherwise it means "write about something"

Absolut! Anledningen är inte att svenskar är elaka, utan att de vill hjälpa till. Är man dock duktig på att betona rätt är chansen större att svenskar inte byter språk.

Thank you for this information. My native language is English. If I knew Spanish, for example, and was talking to a native Spanish speaker trying to speak in English and I just couldn't understand him/her at all or if a precise understanding was required in a situation, then I'd switch to English. Otherwise, it would be rude (and lazy) of me to switch to Spanish when he/she clearly wants to speak in English. Being involved in ESOL tutoring with a variety of students whose native languages I cannot understand, one thing I've found is that if they place the stress in the wrong place(s) this rarely result in misunderstandings - there are minor exceptions but CONTEXT and common SENSE usually will quickly clarify what was meant to be said. What I've found overall, when people switch languages, is they just don't want to put out any effort to help.
