My favorite yarn to date that I’ve used is KnitPicks Palette, which is 100% Peruvian Highland wool. It’s so surprisingly soft to the touch, and softer than other PHW yarns I’ve used. It does pill, but not as bad as other yarns and it feels nice to wear so I don’t care too much! Basic but beautiful!

I love wooly yarns that contain linen. It softens up wonderfully with time. Obsessed 🤩 Also, since the early days of my knitting (like, 7-8 years ago maybe?) I adore tweedy textures and woollen spun yarns. I haven't ever tried any possum yarns, but I'd love to!

Thank you so much for talking about Zealana yarns. It's good to hear that the possums are culled according to animal welfare standards. I bought a lace weight ball of Zealana Luxuria AIR lace weight at a yarn sale for about 3 USD. I was intrigued by the fiber content: 40% down from the brushtail possum fiber, combined with 40% cashmere and 20% mulberry silk. It's super lux!

The bookclub cardigan will be my first evers knitted cardigan and I'm so hyped! Everyone in the Instagram chat is so so nice, too! I adore 100% Merino sock yarn, most other sock yarns are a little too itchy for me. But I think my favourite garment yarn so far was Hobbii Friends Cotton Silk which is 73% cotton and 23% silk and so incredibly soft and comfortable. I made a gr8 gingham crop top out of it and it's my favourite self knitted piece so far!

favorite yarn to use is 100% wool because its so hardwearing and has such nice traits like its temperature regulating etc. i find its just nice to work with on the hands. however, i will never say no to a wool/silk mohair mix as it makes it that much softer and more lux and the mohair helps protect the wool a little too. i also live in melbourne and have been looking into possum yarn for a while but its always been just that little bit out of the price range for a uni student like me, but i have seen samples in stores around victoria and it is so incredibly soft!!

Several things, first of all: congratulations Paige, I'm confident you've passed! Second of all: I just cast on the zipper sweater and swore to forego the book club cardigan, as I already own a beautiful cable cardigan pattern...and now what did you make me do? I bought the pattern and I am THIS close to buying mohair ... HELP (Let's face it the book club cardigan is the nicer pattern, I am still in charge of my decisions and am owning them) Will head over to rav now to nail the yarn purchase by looking at everybody else's yarn 🤓 Thirdly: I did not know about possum yarn, I knew it as a fibre but not, what's behind it, so thank you for the input! Have a lovely day and happy knitting ❣

I've made some delicious mitts in Zealand before and love the yarn so much. Definitely a great use of a pest in NZ. My favourite yarn to knit with at the moment is this yarn I found at Bendigo sheep and wool by a small farm called Karoa fibres. The yarn has mohair in it so it's super soft when washed and has a beautiful halo! It's really affordable too! I'm falling back in love with all things Australian yarns because of your podcast! Just discovered you both 2 episodes ago, love the vibe and the fact you are off-season for us in the northern hemisphere so i can get early ideas for the next knit projects. I love merino and merino blends, but have not tried aussie merino before or have i and not known?! Very curious about the possum as my only encounters here in the great white north are with opossums we occasionally find in a feed bag in the barn or stealing our barn cats' food. NZ is so careful with their other wildlife management projects so i am hoping this is true with this yarn. Save a kiwi, knit with possum?! Thanks for the laughs and your mutual support and enthusiasm for each other's projects.

I was told by an independent yarn maker at a recent yarn festival in Canberra that most of the possum fur for knitting yarn (as opposed to possum fur for commercial clothing) comes from Tasmania and is sent to New Zealand. Possums are a pest in Tasmania as well, so it's still an ethical choice. I just found that very interesting. I don't really have a favourite yarn, but I love knitting with alpaca.

I've only just discovered your podcast in the last month or so, and am so happy to find some lovely fellow Aussie knitters! 😊 I mostly have experience with knitting with Bendigo Woollen Mills, wool and cotton which I really enjoy. I was surprised by how soft, cool to the touch and lovely to knit with the cotton is to work with. Which worked out well as I made the Stripe Hype Dress by Kutovakika 😂 But the wool I'm loving the most is some wool that I was gifted by my family a couple of Christmases ago, which is actually a possum blend! It's Supreme Possum Merino, 40% possum, 50% merino and 10% silk ❤ It's so soft and lovely to work with. I ended up making a self drafted vest with side ties. I’ve only recently gotten back into knitting again after 10+ years, and it has just been TAKING ME OVER 🥲 I’ve even been dreaming about it… regularly!! My absolute favourite yarn right now is the Dory Sock yarn by Green Gable Alpacas farm - it’s “70% Extra Fine Merino, 20% Royal Alpaca and 10% Mulberry Silk” - it’s unbelievably soft and the most luxurious yarn I’ve worked with for sure. The supplier is a quaint little alpaca farm on Prince Edward Island in Canada, and they hold hand-dyeing workshops with their yarn, so I actually hand-painted this skein myself! It holds such a beautiful memory because I attended the workshop with my friend when we travelled there together, so it’s extra meaningful to knit with. It was so cool to meet the owner (who taught the workshop), as well as tour her farm and meet the alpacas themselves 😊

I also need to cast on my book club cardigan, I have some yarn in stash that I think will work. I’m just trying to decide if I should be responsible and finish the cable cardigan I already have on the needles. 👀 I’m very intrigued by the possum yarn from New Zealand! Sarah, your book club cardigan is going to be beautiful, and Paige, your ribbon vest looks perfect! 🎀 Thank you both for the inspiration!

I have only been knitting for 9 months, so I don't have a favourite yarn as I am still discovering new yarns. But I ofcourse love wool and I also quite enjoy 100% cotton, I know it might be a controversial take but I enjoyed the process and the finished fabric.

My favourite is Ulysse, a Woollen spun eco sport weight merino yarn by de Rerum Natura, it's light as air and has the most amazing feel, great stitch definition too.I made an all over cable cardigan with it four years ago, ( Monstera by Joji Locatelli)it gets worn a lot and it still looks as good as the day I cast it off!

Thank you so much for the possum information/education. I had wondered about the ethical side of things. I also didn’t realize it was different from the opossum here in the US. Paige, I am so so happy for you! I know how big of a deal this is. Enjoy your freedom! My favorite yarn combo is merino and alpaca, but right now I’m knitting with kelbourne woolens scout and am really loving it. I want to try a yak blend soon (and now possum).

I thrifted a skein of 100% yak down yarn that feels so nice! It seriously feels like velvet. I’d love to knit a sweater with Yak someday as I hear it’s much less draining on the environment and very temperature regulating. As an American I was very confused when you said Possum yarn but I’m intrigued by it. I’d love to win some! Great episode. Also Paige’s bow vest is incredible!

I've been following you two almost from the start and I always get excited when I see a notification from your channel, keep it up! Two of my favorite yarns are Holst Supersoft for its wide range of colors and it's really good for colorwork, and another would be Sandnes Garn Sunday for its versatility and softness.

Loved this video! I’ve been knitting for 8 months now so still very new to trying different yarns. Most recently I knitted with a single ply chunky wool/acrylic blend yarn and I loved how fluffy and soft it is so makes knitting very fun. But I’m also using a sock yarn held double for a ranunculus and working with merino wool is very lush.

Thanks for another great podcast! I love woolly wools, and love to collect yarn on my travels. I’ve been to Shetland so I have lots of fingering wt Shetland for colorwork. Iceland for Lopi, Ireland for some of their tweedy yarns. I’ve also been to NZ and got the most scrumptious merino/ possum yarn ever. I've made two sweaters with it so far and I love them!

I am a relatively new knitter so every (natural) yarn is such an exciting discovery! I'm particularly obsessed with mohair these days, holding yarn together feels so much like watercolouring. I have just the assortment of brownish mohairs to pair with this possum base!

I can't wait to see all the book club cardigans 🎉. Like all introduced species possums need to be controlled the problem is they are so much cuter than cane toads 😂. I purchased some yarn with possum in it as a souvenir when I was in NZ and I'm a convert. It's heavenly

More recently my favorite yarn is Good Wool by Purl Soho. It’s super versatile, I’ve been able to use it as sport or DK, the fabric is soft enough I can wear it against bare skin, but it’s wooly and blooms well. There’s also a ton of colors which is nice.

Thanks for the fun episode, as always!! You two are such hype girls and i love ittt 💖 As a relatively new knitter i haven't gotten around to trying out that many different yarns, but my favorite so far has been this 40% merino, 30% silk and 30% yak blend that i got from a local indie dyer. It feels soooo luxe and created the most beautiful drape~

I knitted one garment recently with Zealana Kauri and Heron worsted and I love them so much. Since then I’ve been looking into merino possum yarns more, every time I touch samples made from this type of yarn it is so soft and it has that nice halo from possum fur. I really want to try out a hand dyed merino possum yarn one day as well, as it has that earthy undertone from the possum that is so good!

Love the podcast as always. Love reading the comments too and seeing what yarns people favour. I like non superwash wooly yarns for jumpers etc that wear well and don’t pill. I generally use the merino or other soft fibres for shawls and hats. My workhorse go tos are KnitPicks Palette (especially for colourwork) and Holst Supersoft. Also love Rowan Felted Tweed just for the gorgeous flecks colours and it’s soft but wears well imo. Also partial to all yarns Isager cos of the way they combine. And Sarah, my row gauge is always off!, usually I get less rows than stipulated! 😟 As you say, it often doesn’t matter but I do get a bit sick of adjusting for it. It’s a total mystery to me.
