That's a pretty great hit rate for most of them being lightfast, yay! I know there are a few old fashioned pigments in some of them, and I've tested their PR83 Alizarin Crimson, which does fade in light over time. 😭

Nice! This helped me choose a couple of colors to replace some of the not so light fast colors that came in my set of 18… Also, I’m pretty sure I saw somewhere or heard someone else saying that the bright red is PR 112.… Anytime there isn’t a lot of information to be found on a color, I shy away from it because it’s usually slashprobably fugitive. and the brown pink is a funny one, I also learned that pink used to be called yellow or vice versa lol a long time ago… Historically, there is some reason for this but I’m not exactly positive I’m sure it can be looked up :-)

Good stuff, great to see all the colours together! I just have a few, but I also have a few of Jackson's watercolours, which I believe are made by Sennelier. Jackson's Bright Red is PR254 + PV19. So the Sennelier one is very probably the same. I really like the paints and found them juicy, vibrant and highly pigmented. I had bought them to fill pans in my travel palettes, but realised quite quickly that because of the honey in them (especially lemon yellow, but several others as well), they stayed runny and sticky and either didn't dry out at all, or took forever (weeks/months) before I could take them out without them running everywhere and creating sticky mayhem in my art bag! They are great for studio use though

I'd just watched this a few days ago, and struggled to find it again! 😨 (KZread AWFUL search algorithms...) I loved it because you're a FAN of Sennelier (and I tend to be as well, along with schminke) and I'm struggling to pick up a decent yellow ochre asap. THANK YOU! I guess I have naples yellow and some other (raw sienna?) in Sennelier, but immediately need a yellow ochre! As in, I'm putting a painting away until this one gets in. I have DS yellow ochre only, which is okay for a stroke here or there, but I knew there was a stronger mass tone-version and Senn. has a few so I wanted to order the right tube! I love other swatchers, don't get me wrong, but having an actual FAN of Sennelier swatch them out so you can decide between, like, the W&N ochre, or the 🤦 DS PrimaFake Goethite (which I'd already tried and given away, but it's a favorite on YT watercolours... *but I need YELLOW ochre, not the darker brown junk* in the Primafake version. Not hating on DS: I have DS Yellow Ochre, but it's just _weak._ Thanks so much ❤️ (I've hit the bell and saved this video... MAYBE youtube will bring it up in search one day).

Ah yes, it's so super annoying when videos disappear! If you've liked it, you can go into your history and it should remain in Liked Videos, if that helps! I really do love Sennelier paints, they are just so luminous and beautiful. I also struggle to find yellow ochres that aren't gross. Quite often I find raw sienna to be better. I think the best ochre colour in Daniel Smith's range is the Mt Amiata Raw Sienna. That packs a punch and rewets pretty well. 🙂

Surprisingly I enjoyed this swatching video as I’m normally not interested in them however I was curious about the Sennelier colours as I’ve heard quite differing opinions of them, mainly related to their seemingly low pigmentation but of course this is because they are great for layering and glazing... there were sooooo many beautiful colours some of which I’d like to buy, I am surprised that they have quite a few colours which look very similar and I’d love to know why they do that... I was really looking forward to seeing you do a painting with these colours, in particular seeing them layered/glazed... now it gives me something else to link forward to.

  • @ad6449

I actually find them to be highly pigmented when glazed/layered. And they can be watered down to be quite subtle which is so useful. I have found the various yellows, for example, create mixes in unique ways. And, when glazed, the various yellows (for example) behave differently. So the usefulness of the variations won’t be seen on a swatch chart that only uses one layer. I made a swatch chart with glazed layers and that taught me so much about how these colors work. I too aspire to have the big wooden box one day. It’s a very beautiful brand of paints, my favorite actually.

Massive job... really useful thanks Becky. You have a really friendly voice and I love the enthusiasm you get across non stop. One thing that I wonder about.... does KZread on a Windows PC reproduce the colours accurately ? I am sure there are some subtle hues that are lost or simplified by the limitations of RGB colour gamut. I refer particularly to the blues... from Cerulean to French Ultra, aside from value, there is little change in hue on my TV

Thank you! I try to keep my voice upbeat and not slip into a monotone, which is easier said than done, lol. But hopefully they are close. ☺️

Thank you for showing all the senneliers! The sennelier colors seem to have more softness compared to what I’ve seen so far from other brands, I don’t know if "soft" is even the right word to describe this because they are as bright as others. They really are quite unique paints, and have a luminous quality to them that I've never seen in other watercolours. Like you say, it's hard to describe their beauty and softness! Hi Becky, Thanks for sharing the swatching of your Sennelier paints. I also have the box set. I bought it at Jacksons when it was around $260 US dollars. I have seen it as high as $1300 in places. My only thing is, I bought it when I was just starting out and didn't know much about anything. I'm still a newbie. I have only been painting for 2 years. I actually never have used any of the paint from the box. I began to collect watercolor paints and just got swept up with Daniel Smith and QOR paints to just name a few and I never got around to even swatching it. There are some great colors! I think your video may have just sparked something in me! I think I might have to re-visit my box of Sennelier! I just bought some Art Spectrum paints and the NEEF box from your collection video. Hi Marisa, thank you so much for your lovely comment! The box is definitely amazing value from Jackson's and is insanely expensive in Australia, at the one place I saw it online for $1500. Oh you definitely have to try them! They are quite different to both Qor and Daniel Smith, which tend to be really vibrant immediately. Sennelier are a little more delicate and subtle, but as I mentioned in the video, they build up beautifully in layers, and have an amazing transparent/luminous quality to them. They're quite similar to Schmincke, if you've ever tried those. I hope you enjoy the Art Spectrum paints, I'll be curious to know what you think of them. And the Neef paint box! Senior Art is the only place I know who sells them, and I like to visit their stores when I can, especially when they have paint sales. None of my friends in real life understand my obsession for watercolours, so it's lovely to find like-minded people online, and I am definitely in the same boat where I'll never use up all of my paints, though I do try, haha! 😂❤

@@BeckyTregear Yes, I am trying to convert people who don't really want to learn to paint! It's an uphill battle. I have tried Sennelier, they actually were my first paint, and I do love them, but I have realized my style is more what I think is called A la Prima. I don't spend countless hours on paintings. I get in and get out. So many times I'm doing an abstract landscape and I just need to get the most vibrant color or intense saturation because I'm not going to do any layering. I think they can be a little weak if your not glazing. I have taught myself pretty much and with that I don't really follow any rules! lol. I have very limited time to paint. I am a graphic designer in Connecticut. I have my own business and work part time for a non-profit as well. I probably work 70 hours on average a week. Watercolor has become a stress reliever for me. I certainly have a ton of stress, so if I can lose myself in a painting for 15 or 20 minutes, it helps to rejuvenate my brain cells! So far I really like the Art Spectrum paints. They do seem to be a little dry, but I do love the colors. Quite the opposite of Sennelier with the honey! I'm glad you started your you tube channel. I was about to start looking for a part time job when I'd finished my exhibition, and literally days later we went into lockdown and so I have been painting and drawing and making videos, and now I am hoping to make it into a full time thing so that I can just keep going with this. It's REALLY hard building and maintaining a KZread channel, but it has been such a godsend for my sanity, in that I can stay focused and motivated during this really strange year. I've learned a lot about videography and editing, and like my art, everything is self taught. Like you I tend not to follow rules, and just do my own thing. Agreed that other brands are way more suitable for quick work. I save my Senneliers for projects that I want to spend more time on. My next video, if I get the painting finished in time, is going to be using these. It's a big painting. And it's taking ages, lol. I hope you're staying safe and well.
