    Not sure the analysis of Eternal Confidence around 16:20 is on point. This class feature makes it so ripostes and finishers have the characteristic of a Confident Finisher. It doesn’t give that characteristic to every strike.

    Oh shoot, you're 100% right. I swear my brain just ignores words from time to time. Thank you for pointing that out. I'll pin this comment so people can see it! Kind of unfortunate though, as a level 19 feature, that seems a bit too weak now.

    @@Nonat1s Yeah, I agree, it's a little weak. There's a swashbuckler in my campaign and they get REALLY frustrated with how luck-dependent everything they do is, so I could see a player taking this feat just to give themselves a break from the dice rolls and some guaranteed damage, even though it's suboptimal.

  • @Nonat1s

    @Nonat1s

    @@larscasteen Really? Swashbuckler, from what I've read, seems like one of the least Luck-Dependant classes out there thanks to their super consistent bonus damage and effects. If they're upset that they're failing panache-skills and attack rolls, I don't think that's necessarily the class's fault unfortunately. That's just D20 systems as a whole.

  • @larscasteen

    @@Nonat1s I think it's like - for instance - Rogues get to do their precision damage through flanking, but Swashbucklers need to beat a Save DC with their Tumble Through, Feint, Shove, etc... usually with a stat that isn't their 18. For gymnasts especially, if they miss with a Shove, Grab, or Trip, then any subsequent roll suffers from MAP on top of being with a suboptimal stat. And if they critically miss with one of these, then they fall prone or who-knows-what-else happens. And then Opportune Riposte only triggers when the opponent critically misses. I haven't done enough analysis to know that they are strictly more luck dependent than other classes, but their bread-and-butter moves only happen when they take significant risks, so I think they're significantly harder to plan out turns for than, say, a Fighter or a Champion. Or maybe my player is just whiny.

    Currently playing a Swashbuckler in my first ever Pathfinder game, and I'm loving it. I actually opted to do some Multiclassing/Archetype feats though, in taking the Dragon Bloodline Sorcerer archetype, just so I could have the dragon claws to use as a finesse weapon, and eventually have access to Haste and some other little utility spells. So far, it's been a ton of fun, very interesting and fun class, and the sheer variety of options in feats makes it a little hard to decide what to take and what to pass up on honestly.

  • @DarkEyedBlues

    Just as a note: for lethal finisher, you forgo your normal precise strike damage. So if they critically succeed, you're only getting 6 precision damage rather than your normal dice + 6, and if they critically fail, you're getting 18d6, not 18d6 + normal dice.

  • @diegofernandezruiz9641
    @diegofernandezruiz9641 Жыл бұрын

    Just a little thing: a lot of their feats need the swashbuckler to have a free hand. The buckler, being a very nimble shield, counts as having the hand that uses it free, something that a steel shield doesn't. So this is more than a "flavor" feat.

  • @cheezeofages
    @cheezeofages3 жыл бұрын

    Continuous Flair is a little better with a good GM, because keep in mind you can gain panache from doing cool things too. So picture a scene where you're at sea and the guy at the helm is knocked from his post during a storm. Your swashbuckler swings dynamically from the rigging of the ship gaining panache and takes the helm, getting a +1 to take a risky path through the rocks that will get the ship out of a pickle if you make it. Basically just doing something cool makes you better at doing cool things.

  • @Parker8752
    @Parker87523 жыл бұрын

    I would absolutely use "After You" - I tend to roll ones and twos on my initiative anyway, so I might as well just not bother rolling and get panache for my trouble.

  • @cheezeofages

    Also good considering Perception is usually rolled for Initiative unless you Sneak, so Swashbucklers won't usually have a high initiative roll anyway without other feats.

But watching this video gave me the concept of a dwarf who's background is in gladiator combat and becomes a gymnast swashbuckler when she becomes an adventurer so she can still use her surprising agility and habit of pinning and tripping her opponent out in the field. Now I've got a character concept who fights with a rapier to help her disarm and either A. a free hand to do grapples and shoves with, B. a clan dagger to parry with, or C. a whip to help her trip people. She sounds rad, and now I want to play her, so damn, that's another entry in my roster of characters in storage.

    Really like the new thumbnail aesthetic! As a quick sidenote that's kinda related to the swashbuckler: What are your hopes for a gunslinger class? Would you rather see it as a full class or as an archetype, or as a class archetype that only some classes can "upgrade" to?

  • @Nonat1s

    @Nonat1s

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think an archetype would work fine for Gunslinger, however I think I'd like to see something along the lines of a "Mechanic" class. Something similar to 5e's artificer with a bit less magic involved. Able to make constructs and other non-magical mechanical items each day like an alchemist's reagents. Let them make firearms, turrets, and animated constructs that get better at each level! In that same vein, I think "Mechanical Crafting" would be an excellent skill feat to add as an option available to all Crafting Characters, giving players the ability to craft their own firearms and such.

    “Advantage” is not a Pathfinder mechanism and many Pathfinder players will be confused by the reference to it,

    Though the paizo books themselves never use the term (maybe for legal reasons?) so in theory it is possible. Though it is unlikely that anyone picking up PF2 for the first time is unfamiliar with 5e

    Playtesting a Swashbuckler, I learned that the class had a bit of an issue against higher level enemies: It is very hard to get your Panache going against lvl+1 or lvl+2 enemies, making you miss out on most of your kit.

    So a high lvl halflin swashbuckler would have advantage on nearly everything and count his results one better? sounds nice. But that aside I rly like the idea of a dwarven Swashbuckler with his clan dagger and dive full into the riposte feats. MAybe he is even using only his clan dagger and is bragging about how he only needs the symbol of his clan to defeat his opponents

    So, how many of us have a jack sparrow inspired swashbuckler at our table? really? everyone? xD This is indeed my favourite class as well. swashbuckler following Cayden Cailean for some rp flavour, always a solid choice.

    Buckler Dance isn't exactly the same as Dueling Dance. You can raise a buckler while holding a light item such as a potion or scroll, while Dueling Dance has a free hand requirement. Buckler Dance is slightly mechanically superior (as is buckler as a whole over duelist).

    One thing I HEAVILY disagree with about the Swashbuckler is that there isn't a feat or means to use Finishers with actual RANGED weapons, like a firearm or crossbow! I mean, if I'm playing a swashbuckler that is meant to be a pirate, lemme use a GUN with my finishers! I mean, that wouldn't even be stepping on the rogue's toes. After all, Sneak Attack has similar weapon requirements (at least for melee or thrown weapons) but only against flat-footed creatures. You have to jump through a hoop to get a finisher off anyway, so come on Paizo!
