Starting on a 2020 Yamaha R3, I love both the RNineT and the F900R. I think my next bike will be the F900R.

I'd love an RnineT, but the Urban G/S. I was always a fan of the F800R but never rode one. I'd like a go on the 900. I prefer the Boxer, too though.

I bought my RnineT last year and am pretty happy with it. I didn't want all the tech stuff but the RnineT has just the right amount. I already mess with the info controls too much if I had the 900 I'd be messing with all the tech when I'd rather be riding. But for the price the 900 seems like a good bike and would be a good choice, haven't ridden it but have ridden other parallel twins. But I'd rather have my RnineT which has been growing on me more and more.

Hi Motobob, was curious to see your video. Great stuff, by the way! I have to choose between the R1250R HP and a full optiional F900R as you have tested (but not the R9T). Which one would you go for if you have tested the R1250R? I rode the F900R for several days and loved it's chuckability round corners ...

Excellent video. I really miss riding in London, it"s so much nicer than Paris, which has been my home for the past 20 years. I have long been a fan of the r9t and the 2021 models look nicer than ever. I recently bought a Ducati Scambler after many years without a bike and I commute for 40 minutes through central Paris and outskirts and the Ducati seems as good as it can get for the purposes but...I am tempted to switch to the r9t just because it is so beautiful, stable and well crafted. What is it like in really dense city traffic? I spend half the time filtering and I'm concerned that the extra weight and width would be a handicap. Also, do you think that there are any real advantages over the Pure version for commuting and urban rides?

I've never owned a bike with tech, but if I did, I'd be happy with ABS, basic traction control, a wet and dry riding mode and heated grips. Anything beyond that, personally, would be a distraction and just extra stuff to mess up/go wrong. I know someone who's active rear shock failed on his BMW and the dealer wanted £1500 plus fitting! That's double what I paid for my bike.... For a shock! And yes, the scrambler is by far the nicest looking R9T!

Nice articulate review.. I have the r9t scrambler with brushed aluminum tank.. Love it Etc. But rode my mates ftr1200 yesterday! Now i followed indian on the ftr concept journey and was so upset at the generic looks of the production ftr that i bought the scrambler based on looks and the niggle in my mind of having a blast riding it, despite feeling it was also too muted. However i ''grew' to love it. Well the ftr is like your yobo mate thats going to get you in trouble and the bmw the quiet polite cable one thats always looking out for you and you dont mind your parents meeting. So why is it i want to hang out with the maniac for a bit with the reservation that deep down your trusty well rounded friend was always a better choice. What to do? Im about to watch your ftr video to get your thoughts. Cheers rich.

Everything you said about the Roadster is spot on. But yes the 719 option rear sets are probably to much . And I agree I love the brushed alu tank version as well. Mine is original black storm metallic, but I am still upgrading things. One of the mods I will make is reupholster the original seat in real leather. Everything can be changed a bit and made to fit you better, just like any bike for that matter. I also have a W Daytona half fairing, some people like it some don't. But for me it's just great and really completes the bike, while it gives good wind protection. Just enough to hit faster speeds on the highway. My point is the Roadster, top spec R9T is the best model option. Scrambler is not the same bike. ☻☻😀😉

Great video as always MB but I as soooo jealous of you guys being able to lane split (filter) over there, and your “cagers” actually respect your right of way! I’ve seen how people lane split in California and it’s not the same compared to the European way. I’ve ridden the F800 GT and the F800 R and they had decent power and would make a great around town bikes. This sounds like it is the same bike with more tech and a larger engine. Once this virus is over I may go check one out!

Hi Motobob, your California fan is here. I’m curious to know if the throttle feedback was different between the bikes? I currently own F 900 XR and it’s a great bike, but it feels like the bike is a bit “distant”, like a pet that never accepted its owner. 😅 I can’t help but wonder if R nine T is the same in that regard. I’ve always liked the way it looked and before going to the dealership to test ride one I wanted to know what you think about it. Let me know when you get a chance. Thank you 🙏

The F900R is a great bike. I got one from the dealer as a replacement bike the other day when my bike was in for maintenance. It had all the bells and whistles. It was comfortable, had plenty power for commuting, had all the latest safety features. All in all a very enjoyable bike. However, I’d still pick my R Nine T Pure over the F900R any day of the week ... and the weekend too 😉. The F900R may be technically superior and more comfortable than my R Nine T but it doesn’t make me smile like my R Nine T does. When you sit on the R Nine T and push the start button magic happens! R9T probably heats up more in traffic scenarios on a hot summer's day. Due to it's oil/air cooled engine verses liquid cooling on F900R. And even though this older type boxer works in high temps, especially when it reaches its working temp. Cylinder's are in front of your feet so you really never feel it. It's been thoroughly tested and made just right. At least this has been my experience.

It's such a comfortable ride, nothing I sit on after my bike can satisfy me. All BMW'S are just great bikes, they are in my mind best in the business right now. What is your taste when you look at a bike this is the only question. Modern or Retro, and now even Cruiser R18. I just know it's better than any Harley, even though I don't think Harleys suck. Just not the type of bike I would ever buy. The point is BMW in all segments builds top quality machines. I dear you to find a bad one. Cheers Riders ☻☻😁

InspiredObserver for sure. I like the cb for in town commute, it’s plenty fast and agile, I like that it is not very loud with the stock exhaust and it is a very well put together motorcycle. I do wish that the dash was TFT, and the seat makes you little numb after 1.5 hour ride. For the rocket 3 I like the TFT, it has loads of torque down low and is less buzzy at speeds above 70 mph on the highway. The gas mileage is not great on any of them, both are tame sounding (I like that). The cb does need cruise control since my commute to work is 4 to 5 miles in town and 8 to 9 miles on highway. They are both joyful in their own way. I do a lot of my low speed practice on the cb, and prefer highway riding on the rocket.

I own a cb1000r 2020 and testrode the f900r. The CB is the way better bike regarding built quality, power delivery and the quickshifter works 10 times better on the honda. Only thing I liked better on the bmw is the display. Plus the engine in the bmw is not a bmw engine. Its a chinese one... I ended the testride after 15 min, cause the bike did not kick me at All...

Good summary. Definitely buy the CB if you want to leave your phone at home and go for a proper blast. The performance isn't even comparable. The F900R really needs you to hammer the throttle to feel any thrill, but it packs loooaaads of tech compared to the CB which is useful if you're commuting etc. So it all comes down to what sort of riding you do

The bars on the 900r look narrower on camera and the tank I think looks bigger. You don't get the same engine rumble but appreciate that is subjective and some people may like that. The one disappointing thing with the R nine T is the price, for basically no electrics all you pay for is the badge and styling of the bike. I'd love one but it's just too expensive.

Like your vids, thank you. These are two bikes that I have been considering. Although HP is similar TQ difference is considerable with the R nineT having approximately 21% more TQ than the F900R although the F900R is 8kg lighter. When you were riding both bikes was there a major difference in the feeling of power or acceleration, higher TQ can make a bike feel faster than HP as you would know from your Street Twin, did one bike feel considerable faster than the other? I have removed the F900R or XR from my list due to where the engine is made. It is not a quality, power or reliability issue but I just personally can not support China in any way. With this virus infecting heading towards 2 million people, ¾ of a million dead and how China is treating Hong Kong and Taiwan and how China is behaving towards Australia, the UK etc etc, I just can not justify supporting China in any way and if the only way I can do anything is to not buy a Chinese product so be it. There are other bikes in this segment that do not use a Chinese engine if you don’t want a boxer engine. Street Triple comes to mind. For me that would leave the R nineT, however it is more than twice the price of the F900R where I live due to taxes.
