A new side story mini series to accompany my AW11 MR2 project. My friend Zion has owned a mk2 MR2 (SW20), but blew his 5SFE engine from a rusty radiator. After almost a year of saving and searching, he found a 3SGE red top BEAMS engine that he plans on swapping in. So I'm here to film the process of what hopefully turns out to be a fun and successful project. This could either become a decent tutorial / guide of the swap, or a "what not to do".
In this first part, we remove everything necessary to drop the engine and transmission. This includes everything like the coolant hoses, wires, cables, motor mounts, suspension, axles, and exhaust. Then we actually pull the engine out from the car.

Man, filming other people work on their cars is way more fun than filming myself. And I feel the end product is higher quality since I can focus on one thing. I may have to make this a regular thing and look for other small, more specific, side projects to document if this is popular enough. Also huge thanks to Zion again for even letting me film this. Here are his instagram links: Zion's MR2 Instagram: instagram.com/pnw.mr2/ Zion's personal / music Instagram: instagram.com/zion.nation/ You should be able to find his EP on Apple Music and Spotify if you are interested too. It's called: "Fall Like Love - EP" and his artist name is "Zion."
I am finishing doing my red top beams swap into an SW20 MR2! This is super cool to see a video of the same process and how you guys are doing it. Thanks for sharing the adventute.

Hopefully both of ours end up working well in the end. I’m curious how this one will turn out haha
Great job documenting the whole process. I'm getting some MightyCarMods vibes. Really fun to watch!
I heard about all the ups and downs from Isaiah but this was really neat to see it all too.
Looking to swap a BEAMS in the future too; can't wait for the rest of the series!
just started watching the channel. love the vids. i really want a 1986 celica now after that video.

Hahaha if my channel was any bigger I’d say that video would lead to an increase in value for those cars. I’ve definitely opened many peoples eyes to those underrated cars.
Oh no! You guys destroyed that cv axle without knowing it!

Well that’s not good...
wow my first video as its sponsor, amazing 😂
pro tip for the future. don't remove the clutch/slave line, undo the slave from the transmission and just hang it on the chassis. you guys are going to have fun trying to get pedal pressure back, those things suck to bleed

That makes way more sense. And yeah I replaced my aw11 clutch cylinder and bleeding took forever
This is a cool video on a very cool car. I get a tv sitcom vibe from this video. Different yet cool. Good job guys💪
All part of the MR2 ownership experience and right of passage :)
I happen to be in the middle of this very same swap. I just removed the 1998 BEAMS assembly from a 1/2 cut and will be putting it in my 1994 N/A. I'm spending most of my time now ordering parts and crossing belts, seals, gaskets, pulleys, clutch, water pump, oil pump and hoses to something available in the US. You can contact me through the Facebook BEAMS Swap group if you want to collaborate. Hopefully, see you at the MR2 Nationals at the end of May 2021.

I’m pretty sure that Facebook group is actually where he found his for sale (or at least a very similar fb group). I even remember him mentioning seeing a half cut for sale so I wonder if that’s the same one he almost got. Anyways I’ll let him know, I’m sure there will be plenty of things we run into.
Cool to see something different than a regular 3SGTE swap. I look forward to the next video!

Progress has already been delayed since needed to order some parts haha. But hopefully it goes smoothly from here
I’m planning on doing a beam swap on my 4th gen Celica I can’t wait to start that project 🤩
I needed this to motivate me to fix my celicas radiator lol

Hahahaha yeah man. Otherwise you’ll be sitting for a year with it haha. Though I guess it’d give you an excuse to find an upgrade haha.
Great video super enjoyable
Great narration
Thank god you were there, what would they have done without getting the clutch bled? :)
Thank you for this video, this helps me a lot
Even though this video is old, you should tell your mate to save that 5S-FE bottom end so he can build a cheap 2.2 stroker with that BEAMS head if he ever wants more power
Your videos are so well made bro
I'm so glad I came across this channel! This series is gonna be sick!

Next episode should be out soon! We are finishing filming for it this week I think
I’m late to the game, but this is great 😊 Great work Josh!!!
Awesome video! Currently in the middle of basically the same swap, just doing it into a 90´ Celica. Nice to see that the struggles are similar ;) And we also did that "haunted car" thing :D Only difference so far is that I usually don´t shoot the beers as Zion does^^ Looking forward to the second part of the video!

Hoping the progress continues soon! We keep running into stuff that needs to be ordered so it’s been slow lately. Either way, good luck on yours too
please more videos!
For stripped droplink heads you can grab the backside with visegrips, mine got chewed up something nasty but you can't really reuse them in that state anyway. Honestly cutting them is easier provided you have the tools but it does make a good excuse to spend all evening swearing.
good job. i have to lower mine to work on water pump./
10:53 You can fill the transmission from the odometer cable hole.
Just a small correction on the video. The red top beams was only rated to 200 HP. The grey top is lamer at 180 and black top at 210hp. Other than that fantastic video 😁
Great build! Where can I get my hands on one of those Mine's ECUs???
AWE WAIT I DIDNT KNOW I WAS IN THIS HEHE

No doubt you can start in the day ona car an it runs you into the night , i had days with that on my car an helping men with their cars as well...
i dont know what it is but i love your editing style

For these I just try to get quality footage and use simple editing. Nothing too fancy but focus on showing everything, while still keeping it quick and to the point. Other than that I really don’t think much about making these kinds of videos compared to my other stuff hahaha. Kinda all just gets thrown together.

@@RetraCast the simple style without any flashy editing gives it a more 80s style i think
Does anyone know where the black ground wire shown at 7:17 near the engine fuse box terminates? Is it used to ground the left access panel or something? I noticed the same wire, detached, on my own 5SFE MR2
I have to replace the engine to my MR2 1987 any information where I can buyer
If Zion ever wants to sell, I am interested. Thanks
Lol tools needed to remove mr2 engine 1.jacks 2.socket set 3. Machete
