I agree. I'm on Suzuki number 4. Never had a worry. Just wish the 1.4T was in more of their cars, it's such an amazing engine. The 1.5 isn't bad and it can do more than you'd expect from it's figures, but man, that 1.4T is the way to go.

The xl6 is a great family hauler for persons that want a little luxury and rock solid mechanicals. Personally I would take the auto, but not the 4 speed, but the 6 speed torque converter. That gearbox does much better on the highway as it keeps the revs below 2500rpm at 80kph. Hypothetical gearboxes aside its still a good package for a underserved segment.

8.7l/100km on Suzuki 1.5l engines is still lighter for Haval's 1.5ltr engines which gets you over 10.5l/100km easily. Worst I've experienced with a Haval 1.5l was 12.8l/100km

I drive the h6 and am averaging 14.5/100km on a bad day is 18.5/100 that's ridiculous

Jacob thanks./ I really like this car. We are driving a Brezza 1.5GL A/T what a car which we are happy with. The other day the Dealers driver took me home in XL6 and I was really impressed

Great car with great fuel economy. I managed to average between 6.0 and 6.5l/100km from 4 speed autobox and it stays within these figures in everyday normal driving. On one particular trip I saw 5.4l/100km. Even with some high speed driving i would not see anything above 7l/100km. The only down thing is the 4spd auto, it's not really bad but I think the stick will be much better for smooth power delivery coz the autobox sometime hunt for gears and cause motor to drone on hills

Not a bad vehicle. Needs a 40/50mm lift, slightly bigger & wider wheels to sit just right.

Completed first tank on my demo model auto. 460 km - 34l = 7,35 l/100km. One trip of 50 k"s out and 50 k's back. Rest in town. Hoped for better.

I love it's presents at the front ❤❤ well done Suzuki ❤❤❤

Nice review. About the auto gearbox you dissed. I'm thinking you are mistaking the AMT (in smaller Suzukis) with the torque converter gearbox available in the 1.5l cars

The 1 problem that we will experience in the upcoming years will be a high amount of hijackings of these 1.5 litre Suzukis. Almost all their model offerings in SA have the same engine...it's going to cause a lot of problems because it will easily be interchangeable with most of their cars. A counter to this is that the aftermarket parts will be easily affordable and readily available like the VW's and all. It's both a good and bad thing, in my opinion...only time will tell

And with Toyota being their associate, they now have a target on their engine bay, or maybe they might turn out like the first gen Renault Sandero which they share everything with the Nissan NP 200 but nobody stole a Sandero

Thanks for the review, this is excellent Budget MPV. Depending where you are and driving behavior this vehicle is fuel economic for me , its about 13,6 -13.9KM per 100KM which much better than the VW Tiguan Allspace I previously owned in terms of price ,Fuel consumption and space.

The xl6 is a practical family car thats fuel efficient (despite the figure quoted in this review) , practical(yes the spare tyre where it is can be an issue but you dont lower it outside the car but with the screw inside the boot) with a rock solid powertrain(wish it had the 6 speed auto but Suzuki SA is allergic to it with its euro import models). The competition in this segment of the market is space and most people compare this with a 7 seat suv like the Fortuner which is silly(the 3rd row in this is way more useable for one)these are way more practical.

I always thought GLX version of any Suzuki meant extra airbags , so what does the GLX bring to the table compared to the GL model ,

Thought the same, brochure confirm both the GLX and GL only come with dual front airbags. That’s not good enough for a people carrier imo.

@@ganjabobby so in other words a car buyer in eSwatini, Zimbabwe, Botswana or any of our SADC neighbours are in safer cars since they import them from JDM & UK secondhand market and EU before Brexit and JDM are not going let what we are sold to flood their markets because our safety feature are pathetic 😳😳

I have my Suzuki xl6 for over a month now and it started at 15km/l now its around 13.6km/l. Very nice vehicle but extremely heavy on fuel

Really how often do you use a spare? I think I got a puncture about 12 years ago. The boot space your will use daily.

8.7 l per 100km is not economical. Can we get a bigger engine, maybe or a turbo.

That's how they keep there cars cheap.

If that is the 1.5 L VVTI motor it basically is a Toyota Avanza derivetive. Not the most economical

@francoisrossouw1656 - Not the same engine at all. The Avanza engine was shared with the Daihatsu Terios years ago.

@@josh3221ify true, but it is not the same engine as in the Suzuki. The Daihatsu/Toyota engine code is 3SZFE and the Suzuki/Toyota is K15MP. The 3SZFE was not economical at all.

It's too big for the (overused) engine. Mazda's 2.0 N/A gets similar if not better economy for on the CX-5 whilst giving more power.

@@josh3221ify the CX-5 is a heavier and overall more pleasant car. Suzuki could offer the 1.4 boosterjet engine as an option, or in GLX trim.

​@@tungstencarbide7255 can it seat 6 people? Even 3 people wouldn't be comfortable in the rear seats of a cx5 on a long drive. The xl6 is light hence the smaller engine. The power to weight ratio is adequate, I honestly think the slight bump in performance on the Mazda is insignificant, maybe in more powerful models from Germany.

1 less seat for R60k extra. The maths isn't mathing

8.7l/100km is not economical, how can you justify saying that? For a modern day 1.5 manual, no ways man! Suzuki is known for their economical nature, is this car a dud? Not very good commentary.

Okay he was overselling this one. But can you agree that for the price, there is no competition for this car in either fuel economy or other things!!!

Awesome review but Suzuki especially in these models must increase airbags No point having six seater but no airbags for other passengers must they get injured? Anyway well done Suzuki makes a car for everyone Il save all my cash and get a baleno only 🫡

Thats why your best bet is to not get involved in an accident, especially side impact, because it shows poor driving skill and observation. airbags can cause serious injury, some deploy slow or fast and dont do anything to save drivers, strength of the structure is more important.
