I’ve been a fan of Suzuki’s approach to dirt and adventure bikes for some time. The company seems to understand that well-priced and capable bikes are what a good deal of the available market wants. Think how the DRZ400 has lasted and remains a favourite among thinking trail bike riders across the globe.
Indeed, flash exxy gear is all very well and there’s plenty of examples about. But the new V-Strom 250SX is supremely priced and does most things pretty well, and that’s music to my bank account’s ears.
Universal tyres were fitted to our launch example and there was sand. Bloody sand. Who likes sand? Not I. Bung on a set of full knobbies and this thing would eat deep sand for brekky. I coped and so did the bike as it came out of the box though.
Making all this pretty easy is that light weight of 167kg wet. When that front starts to slide, there’s enough kind natured agility at the tiller to reef it back, applying full gas and hey-presto, no prang. I liked that and I reckon it represents the bike’s strong suit.
Position and seat are all dirt - you need to get the toilet region high up on to the tank, elbows up and keep asking for lots of gas. Then it all makes sense. Of course, touring is in the mix here, but you’d be working that engine pretty hard after 120km/h. There’s a good top box thrown in for online early birds and touring accessory niceties abound, so a trip to the favourite bush watering hole with mates is very possible.
Brakes are good, the front a little divey and plush, finish good if not startling and the cockpit offers a good deal of well-illuminated info.
The bike will appeal to newbies and older riders that don’t want the hassle of a dirty big adventure bike to contend with. That price allows a buyer that is sporadic in usage occurrence to own a new motorcycle, without having to take out another mortgage. That will bring them in droves I reckon.
I enjoyed it. It’s light, quick enough and offers weekend warriors a budget conscious choice. All good news.

2023 Suzuki V-Strom 250SX price and specs:
Suzuki Motorcycles has launched to the national media its all-new V-Strom 250SX.
The bike joins the venerable four capacity-based V-Strom stable alongside the 650XT, 800DE and 1050 and 1050XT variants.
Priced competitively at $6490 rideaway, the 250SX is powered by a 249cc, fuel-injected, four-valve single-cylinder engine, with performance figures of 19.5kW at 9300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7300rpm.
Neat is the sporty short-style dual-exit muffler which features a bespoke design unique to the 250SX.
The bike gets a 19-inch front wheel providing 205mm of ground clearance with dual-channel ABS on the 310mm (front) and 240mm disc brakes.
The 10-spoke cast-aluminium wheels, including the 17-inch rear, are fitted with semi-knobbie tyres walking the difficult compromise of paved and light off-road running.
Those looking to cut out bigger mileages will like the decent screen and knuckle covers and the V-Strom 250SX has a rear carrier that also functions as a grab bar.
Suspension has seven-step preload adjustment at the rear and a non-adjustable front arrangement.
There’s a full LCD setup that displays speedometer, tachometer, odometer, gear position indicator, two trip meters, instantaneous fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, fuel level indicator, clock, and voltage meter. Added to the utilitarian cockpit are a USB outlet on the left side of the instrument cluster (which glows blue making it easier to use in low-light situations).
A big grab bag of accessories is available including engine protection bars, topbox, heated grips, a fuel tank pad, wheel decals and a lower seat which reduces the height from 835mm to 805mm.
The V-Strom 250SX is available now online in two liveries: Pearl Blaze Orange and Suzuki Champion Yellow. Stock is estimated to arrive locally in March 2023.

Entry level my ass.... Been riding 40 years and I could have a blast on one of these and be perfectly content with it. Need one of these to go with the 2014 1000 and the 2012 650 with a 128,000 km on it.
These little 250's really are fun bikes. You never have to work hard to make them go round the woods and trails. And you can drive down the road to get there, Plus they get awesome gas mileage and bikes like the Suzuki are built to last with regular oil changes. They tend to be tough as blazes. I used to take a 250 Suzuki to a drivers ed driving range on the weekends and flat track the tiny range for hours. It was a blast. You could challenge yourself on your braking points and bike control all day without killing yourself. What a fun bike. This 250 VStrom looks no different. Great video.

I own this bike in India..it's adv bike with sports bike engine..it is fun to ride bike with low cost maintenance and good mileage..

@@sputnik5991 in service manual..it's 4.5k to 5k km..but I prefer to change engine oil at 4k kms( cheaper service cost)...9k kms done till now I have not done any valve clearance check ,bike running pretty good condition..
these bikes are really fun, with power to weight ratio, those suspension and wheel base, treat to ride on highways and little off road too.
Going into my 50's I've basically sold all my "big" heavy bikes, I was looking at the 250 gixxer and then Suzuki South Africa popped a message in my email box inviting me for a spin on their new 250 V Strom, I'm sold, will put my order in soon, I'll just use it for road purposes (had enough of anything dirt)

I rode my 250 vstrom from Adelaide to Cairns and back did 10000 km in two weeks with a week in Cairns They go very good Put a better chain on I recommend Gave it a very good thrashing and could not break it Great bike And handles very well. Goes fast enough on hwy no problems

How many people ride a bike only in the dirt. Why not test it on the road too. This was less than half a test ride. Very disappointed.

it has fuel efficiency of 40kmpl around 90kmphbin 6th gear around 6000rpm. thats lot of happy touring

Very nice review👌 I will buy the VStrom 250 SX if Suzuki increase the suspension travel, increase the tank capacity to 15 litres, slightly taller handlebars with a revised peg position for ease of riding when standing up on the pegs, also give better brakes and switchtable ABS with a stronger light setup.

They're completely different. The previous 250 was a twin with 17 inch wheels This is a single with a 19 inch front.
In the closing comments you said it is a "single-cylinder". Is that correct ?

It looks like the twin is for Europe according to team-bhp. The original source in my previous post was from global suzuki. I am in the US. It looks like it is not available here.

Yes, the previous 250 V-Strom was a twin. It had a round headlight and was heavier. Probably quite a bit more expensive as well.

@@DaveZee01 My country is supplied with bikes from Suzuki Colombia, South America. It is a liquid-cooled twin with a 6-fwd transmission. In 2021 when I was contemplating buying it the price was equivalent to US$5,300 on the road. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

167kg isn't exactly light. Especially when you are comparing it to a dirtbike. I don't understand why Suzuki didn't make it A2-license attractive which means 100cc extra and probably 15-20 more hp. The price isn't very sharp either. I rather would buy a kawasaki versys 300x instead.
Just thinking, why all are just talking about this Suzuki 250cc and why not other bikes from other makes? Like Yamaha has FZ25, Ktm has 25, Honda too has 250cc.

Well the first minute of this video was bullshit
100km/h? I have both the XT250 Yamaha and VStrom 250 Suzuki. The XT engine torques from about 90 km/h. It can do 110 km/h all day long - it often does. The Vstrom Torques at 7500 rpm and peaks at 9300 (140 km/h) One hardly feel any engine stress on this bike, but running it around max torque is ideal, that's closer to 120km/h. At this speed you have another 30km/h spare to overtake or have fun. The XT feels a bit more torquey and can do 120 km/h easily, but its clearly more stressed than the Vstrom above 110km/h.
