Suzuki Swift Hybrid 2024 review: Next-gen city car targets Toyota Yaris with new 3-cylinder engine

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2024 Suzuki Swift Hybrid is making major moves, with the new fourth-generation light hatchback taking the series into petrol-electric territory for the first time. That said, it's important to note it actually uses a 12-volt mild-hybrid system, so it's not at all similar to the style of full series-parallel hybrid powertrain that Toyota has pioneered for more than 25 years.
Either way, the new Swift Hybrid is a step in the right direction, with it powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 61kW of power and 112Nm of torque. That said, it's assisted by an integrated starter generator (ISG), which adds another 2.3kW/60Nm into the acceleration equation when possible and extended engine stop-start operation. And yes, there's even a rare optional five-speed manual gearbox.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis gets behind the wheel of the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid rival to find out if it goes far enough in the battle for city-car supremacy.

What I'm wondering is, the orange model he is standing next to is right hand drive, and the text box above states: "In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis gets behind the wheel . . . " so why isn't he actually showing us and driving the orange model for this review, instead of using the blue overseas model with what I presume is stock Suzuki media footage? 🤔

I was thinking this too...! I don't know why CarsGuide couldn't take their own shots with the orange car...

Other Australian reviewers do drive the orange car, but only around a carpark, so that may have been a limiting factor. But at least it does give a more 'real-world' review than voicing over stock footage.

Interestingly here in the uk the orange is the no cost option for paint so good to see it in a review.

Ugly wheel trims nice on the top model surprise surprise I thought the old binnacle and round centre vents were better.

If you knew the rubbish they sell in my country, you would be disgusted. This Swift looks like a Q7 compared to the Renault Kwid and Fiat Mobi here
