Suzuki GSX-S1000 - Big 4 Cylinder Bikes Still Alive
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
When Suzuki design a motorcycle they do so with longevity in mind. The GSX-S 1000 has been one of the best, if not the best, all round 1000cc motorcycles for over 20 years. In recent years the trend has been towards smaller capacity bikes but does the GSX 4 cylinder still do it for me?

I test rode most of the latest litre naked machines and this was the bike i went for. It's so suited for the road and for everyday use i just couldn't fault it. A big plus as well is the 19 litre fuel tank so good range and less fuel ups.😊

Naughty boy bike. Roll on the throttle, release clutch. Two upshifts then immediately roll back off again as you're doing the speed limit. 😅 Brilliant bikes with amazing technology and wonderful engines - mostly unusable. But marvellous nonetheless 😂

I own the '22 GSX-S1000 in blue. You're bang on about the fuel - if you wanna be fuel efficient on this bike, you're gonna be riding boring. But then again, thats most bikes innit? With that being said, this bike really does pull from 4-5k, its really sporty everywhere you ride it. True, full performance is found from 8k+, however thats just bonkers for the streets no matter if its an inline four or a twin. I think a powerful inline four long stroke like this one is a great mix of both worlds. Fun around town, amazing for twisties and can do really well on track as well. If someone doesn't like the smooth characteristics or sound of the inline four though, then I think twins or triples makes more sense.

I own a triton blue 2023 model. Im a big guy and even with me on it. I can twist that throttle and bring the front wheel up easily. My only legitimate complaint is it does get the speed wobbles on hard acceleration from about 70 to 130mph. But a steering damper solves that problem easily.

If this bike had more power. No one would buy an MT-10, Super Duke R or S1000R. Upgrade the cams, air filter, a full exhaust and ecu flash. That will put it close to 175hp and then it can compete with the hyper nakeds.

Good bikes, i've rode one and Suzuki have certainly got their moneys worth out of this K5 engine. I wouldn't buy one tho, its way more power than i need. The 8S i recently test rode suited me much better. I found it more comfortable, its lesser power but low down torque is more usable in real world riding. The 8S will have a lot better mpg and its £3.5K cheaper to buy. They both have this modern angular looks though, which i'm not keen on.

I still don't understand quick shift. So let me get this right. You ride it like you stole it and you don't need to pull in a clutch lever, just some toe action? So it's a semi automatic VW bug from the 70s. Still have a gear shifter and no 3rd pedal. The ladies always drove them when I grew up. Now we have paddle shifters in cars for people to pretend they are F1 drivers.... still not getting it. So it's playing pretend?... wait, I think I got it now. Another one of your insightful reviews . I must admit that I had to take a break after your walkaround and give my eyes a rest from the pain . I know it's a Suzuki , I know it'll go like Billy O , I know it'll handle like a dream and stop on a dime [ sixpence in Blighty ] [ 6d wassat ? ] [ half a bob ] . But it needs to go back to the factory and get painted properly and have a fairing fitted . A few years ago this style of bike would have been called a streetfighter , but I guess that has negative connotations now . Modern colours seem so austere and remind me of the drab 1950s colour bikes and cars . After WW2 there was a lot of surplus military paint to be had , that's why Land Rovers started out in light RAF green and then after couple of years , dark army green , have Suzuki got hold of a job lot of grey paint from the Japanese Navy ? 😂 BTW who is Billy O and where is he going ?

Hard case how us motorcyclists learn where all the potholes & man holes & bumps & smooth spots on roads we know.I went round a unfamiliar corner on Monday & it's in the shade all day & was about 10:30am & road was smooth all the stone chips had gone & was just black tar & really smoth & slippery.I slowed right down & couldn't avoid it & felt back wheel wiggle & traction control kick in.I'll remember that corner in future & probably had black ice on it 60-90mins earlier.I hate those smooth bits when wet or raining it's like all the stone chip sunken into the tar & it becomes smooth & common in NZ 🇳🇿 where our roads are shocking 3rd World.
