A friend of mine bought a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser almost new and just recently parked it because the frame broke in half. It was driven every day as a pizza delivery car and has just over 1 million kilometres on it. Pretty impressive.

I was driving Toyota Landcruiser and Pickup in the Sahara desert. Mostly off road. The old models did not have much power but the engines were indestructible. After 500000 km usually the frame of the Landcruiser got soft from mechanical stress. The workshop could not weld fast enough... The pickup were better.

I know I'm going to put two more hundred thousand miles on it and then some. all it needs are some tender, loving and caring like any other car built to last and it will last! Not true, there a some real dogs out there that are prone to major problems within the first 100k. The Nissan cvt issues come to mind with their cvt drive bands that unravel and rapidly disassemble in a catastrophic manner. Like wise there are other CVT driven cars out there that suffer from the same failure rate as the Nissan brand, the Chevy Traverse and KIA Forte among others . The use of plastic components in engine and drive trains is another troubling trend that has shown to be an issue in recent years as an examlpe recent Nissan 1.8 liter and Chevy 1.4 liter models.

I acquired an 88 Jeep Cherokee almost 2 years ago whose odometer wasn't engaged for who knows how long but stopped at 213,000 miles. Had been a ranch vehicle and abused but still purrs, still runs/drives good. A lower ball joint and control arm were bad but replaced those and all the other like parts as sets just to make a fresh start and then the usual usual replacing of a gasket here, a hose there, maybe a fuse, refresh a ground, replace a bulb, that kind of stuff but it's a cruiser. It's not fast cuz need to update gearing to accommodate slightly larger tires but a decent ride with a 4" lift and 4" wider stance. By now I'm sure the mileage is more like 300,000+ miles but it's all good and I love my car. A great and fun project also.

Bought a used 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with 67,000 miles on it in 2008. I gave it to my daughter years later with 125,000 miles on the speedometer, her husband does regular maintenance on it and it currently has over 225,000 miles on the V6 engine. The only major part replacement was a water pump and front wheel bearing assemblies.

I am the original owner of a 02 Ford Explorer with the 4.6L V8. This engine is often cited as the best V8 Ford ever produced. I have 195000 miles with the original Trans. These motors were used in taxis and police cars that would regularly run up over 400k miles. I am getting ready for a cross country road trip over 4500 miles and have no fear of the motor failing. Just performed normal maintenance and it just keeps on going. It's a body on frame beast...

@Mono Dan ,let me cite another example of a great Ford engine. In 1980, I bought a '72 Gran Torino with the 351 Cleveland that had 115,000 miles in it. I had it rebuilt at 160,000 miles and drove it until 1998. I sold it with 200,000 miles on the new engine. It never suffered a major or minor breakdown for that matter.

My 2005 4 Runner is the best car I’ve ever owned. Only problem I’ve ever had were the brakes but once they were corrected all I’ve ever done is the usual upkeep, regular oil changes, tire rotation, filter replacements, etc. just a solid driving car in the city or highway !

I bought a 1997 5.9 ltr Jeep Grand Cherokee, apart from the electical shutdown that could last for ten minutes. Nothing else has gone wrong. One long screw on the computer seemed to cause the problem plus travelling past military bases . A few oil and filter changes just changed wiper blades .Plus tyres and brake pads . A very good well built American jeep. Paint is perfect ,seats engine and all electrics still perfect. Still has great performance. A citroen was on you tube last week reaching 500,000 miles no issues. Channel ' Tim ' something

Prior to 2021, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid used a V-6 engine. Also, while you (and Toyota) refer to the transmission as a CVT, it is a very different type of transmission than the belt-driven CVTs in many Nissan and Subaru vehicles made in the last 10 or so years. The Toyota setup uses planetary gears instead of belts.

Got a toyota fortuner, bourght new 11 years ago, completed 256,000 klm, runs perfectly, never had any issues other than, oil change, air filter change, replace air con fan, replace motor for passenger electric window, replace radiator, replace windscreen twice due to stones cracking then, currently on 4 th set of tyres, will buy same car to replace this one when need be. Live in thailand so repairs cheap.

My 2005 Hyundai Tuscon GLS has 140,000 miles on it and still runs like a top. The only major repair was to replace the fuel pump which I destroyed by putting a gas additive in the fuel tank. Everything still works..AC, stereo, cruise control and she still shines after a waxing.

Landcruiser is built to higher standard. Smaller tolerances and stronger parts. Every part in a landcruiser is designed and planned to last 25 years or longer. The same can't be said for a 4Runner.
