It was calling for a winter storm with freezing temperatures so I decided to put the 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter to the test and sleep in it overnight.

Those heaters are great and you don't need extra ventilation. I'm a trucker and have spent many a night with the heater blasting all night in the bunk, toasty as can be.

How much diesel fuel does that take to run for say 10 hours? Diesel is so expensive up here in Michigan, I can't imagine. Sometimes I think it's cheaper just to stay at a Motel 6.

Those cheap chinese heaters aren't safe enough for me to sleep in same place where I sleep. Those burners arent tight and can cause and those fumes prob leak. Also wiring isnot heat resistant and fire insulate has asbest in it. Yep :) Buy somw guality heaters, they can save your life and van. Like Wallas, Drumatic, Webasto.. i recommend guality made in Finland heater Wallas

Just a heads up, that 2nd carbon monoxide alarm should be lower than where you sleep. That gas is heavier than air so if god forbid the first detector failed by the time the 2nd one went off it might be too late. Really, you could put them right next to each other. Merica. Not many countries where half the people live by a river in a van and make money off KZread! 🤭
I love this van it looks so cosy and it’s the first van I ever drove my dad had one and we would travel a lot , Ireland to Germany was the furthest I went with him. We weren’t living in the van but it was huge there was so much room in the back so a couple of us could sleep at the same time while dad drove. Great times ❤. I’m watching van life videos a whole lot lately, the idea is appealing to me more and more. The toilet situation is off putting unless I were to find a van with a wee shower and toilet. The sleeping situation makes me feel it would be totally worth it. Thanks for sharing ❤
I used to sleep in a 1990 YJ soft top Jeep at that temperature on snowboard trips. Cold AF! No heater but i did make a sleeping platform out of a sheet of plywood so i could stretch out diagonally. After a few failed attempts (eg. freeeeezing nights) i figured out the recipe was to soak in the nearby hot springs, change into full thermals/puffer jacket/socks/beanie, etc eat hot food then get into my sleeping bag and try to pass out before my body temp dropped too much. Definitely not for the faint hearted but so glad I experienced it 🤙 I would have killed for your Sprinter! Glad to see you making the most of it.
This makes me wanna do vanlife even faster than I am planning...so cool !!!
Your set up is great! You’ve got everything you need, microwave, fridge freezer, cook top. Nice swivel passenger seat. ‘A quick get get away’? I can only imagine how often that happens. What a hassle. Keep it up, man. Stay safe out there!

Can I just say I am in love with this van. Everything about it. I live in a 3 bedroom 5th Wheel, thought it would be easier to have to move around for my job. Bought it last year and breaking in the "new". And I am not happy. I went way too big and cumbersome. So now looking to sale it and go down to a couple of Vans. Maybe a little more room. Yes! Here in Brazil at the south they sell windshield covers and to all glasses van to use due to the snow. It maintain a lot of heat inside and we cannot use heaters. Here in south at winter we have temperatures at -11C and we dont have winter diesel, so if we need to turn engine on at night we will have problems.

I love your van! I have a 2005 E350 Skooly..NO 4x4. 😞 but I want to see if I can install it myself. Awesome video. And you're correct about not needing to keep windows open with the diesel heater. As long as it exhausts properly, you're good to go. Your friend from NYC 🙏
Pretty cool man. I do a lot of sleeping outside. I’m a wildland firefighter in California. We travel a lot and go to cold places at high elevation. Sleeping in a sleeping bag is warmer when your just wearing boxers. It’s freezing getting in but your body heat warms the bag the more cloths you wear the colder you get. Down or synthetic. I wish I could afford a 4x4 van Some day.
Love Princess Auto. I keep a luggable loo also. Brilliant!
Really enjoyed your video. That van looks so comfortable where you were chilling in the back.

This is easy to do when is just only one person. Adventuring with a family is quite a different story. It is a lovely Benz.
You might not need to leave that much open at night while you sleep, but it’s a good idea to leave something open to allow the humidity to escape. Trust me on this one. I lived two Canadian winters full time in my 19ft trailer.

It's pretty relaxing to watching you, well made video :). Please be safe!
Nice setup. Only thing I might change is to extend the exhaust pipe so it is sticking completely out from under the van. That way you don't have to worry so much about the fumes building up under the van and finding their way inside. Personally, I have my exhaust similar to yours. However, I have an extender I put on it whenever I use it. Only takes a few seconds to slide it on or off.

I'd add another idea, you know how bridges freeze up before the roads because the air blows in under them. Make some side skirt panels that you can remove and keep in storage, and pull out and attach when parked for the night. Keep the wind from just blowing in underneath the vehicle. I could make a real difference in how hard your heater has to work to keep the vehicle warm.

During winter the vents in the dash are enough for me. Keeps snow and noise out. As you might be concerned to get fumes of the heater into the van: the air intake is located on the driverside of the hood. So no worries, but with a co2 warner, you sleep better.
