I was stationed in Denver and it actually has a lot of moderate winter weather surprisingly. But it also has enough days that are bone chilling that laying on the freezing ground is not a good game plan. 😒 But I also worked in Duluth and was absolutely blown away at the number of homeless people up there. Why does any homeless person stay in a snow state city???

For a while I thought it was just the large cities. But even small rural towns here on the west coast have tents and homemade shanty structures off in the bushes along the river. A great deal of this seems to be drug people who can’t keep it together to hold a job and just focus on staying high. Mental illness seems to be a side effect that comes with drug use. I’ve heard the argument of what came first. Either way they seem to be bed partners. These people need to be clean and sober before you can work on their mental illness…. And your not right in the head if you give up and accept a life like this. I see this as a two or three year recovery process. They have to be clean and sober long enough to break the psychological dependencies of the drugs. Rebuild the mindset so they are willing to keep working for betterment. These people are a danger to themselves and being such should be hauled off to a mental health facility where they can work to become whole again. That process should include vocational and trade school so that once deemed ready they can hit the ground running. They would also need a halfway house type of setting where they can live for a period until they have a solid income and a savings to get off on their own. Too expensive? These are our citizens…. Guess we can just give billions $$$ to people who chant death to America. Meanwhile our own here aren’t worth the effort?

$243,000,000 this year to manage housing 5000... $48,600 per person... highest average rent/mortgage in Denver does NOT exceed $2600/mo.. if $2500/month was spent on each of the 5000 homeless .. their bills would be paid and they would be housed. (12)x$2500= $30,000 $48,600-$30,000 = $18,600 per person $18,600 X 5000 = $93,000,000 38% of the budgeted $243M isn't even needed to fix the problem here in Denver.. People saying "get a job, fixes lots of problems", you have to make enough to pay rent, utilites - gas/electric, water; then buy food, medicine, clothes,. Plus some places require at least 3 months income and a security deposit. The cheapest rents are often in an unsafe neighborhood. If your homeless with kids, it may mean putting them in public schools b/c both parents need to work to make ends meet; you have to buy school supplies, a backpack, and/or pay for school lunches - either brought from home or buying at school. Transportation costs might include train/bus passes & fares, insurance/gas for a vehicle while praying that your means of conveyance doesn't require maintenance which could end up in the thousands for example a transmission repair. For low-income people, just missing *one* paycheck could be enough to land you in the streets due to eviction or foreclosure. Healthcare costs can also bankrupt someone. So, it's not as easy as going out and finding a job. After you gain employment there can be as much as 2 weeks before you see a paycheck. then you have to save up enough money to afford even renting a cheap apartment, along with paying for the most basic of needs.
