We get flooded every winter on our allotment . This year by far the worst still if you grow your own you have to like a challenge 😅

On the Polly house door if you extend the door frame with some planks you should be able to Sandwich the plastic back between two planks you will lose some light start with two planks much longer than the height of your Polly tun cut to the width of the door frame across the top attach to front and back of door frame theay are your spaces do the same to the bottom then place the two planks either side of the hole screw the two planks together with glue and screws then take a piece of wood across the spaces on the top of the door frame and over the planks that are covering the hole do the same on top and bottom inside and out effectively widening the door frame to cover the hole

Oh no Mark! I see you smiling through the pain but i would have got the swear jar out myself! Hopefully it can drain off quickly. Is it just where it dips in that area from road traffic? I wonder if the land owners could put some gravel there or something like a drain off trench along the back border line there? Hope it dries off for you guys up there in terms of the weather too! I think we are all done with the rain by now! Take care.

Thinking of putting a fountain in the middle and making a feature of it 😂😂😂 That's rubbish about your fence. Hope you manage to get it sorted soon. Things look a little sketchy round here over the next couple of days weather wise but looking up after the weekend 👍🌱👍

My basement does that once a year since we bought our house, insane rane just overwhelms the sump. Happend this year already before it was even technically spring.

Iain from Grown Local recommended some super strong and wide repair tape. Its a bit expensive but I've ordered up a roll and hopefully it'll do the trick! Just need the rain to stop now.

I think you need sandbags along that side and a pair of waders. I hope it drains quickly for you Mark. Elaine 🌱

Would you consider bringing in some hardcore beyond your fence line, Build up your own side so you're higher than the base level where it floods.

Going to try and create a bit of a French drain in the communal area and then try and build up the defences at the edge of my plot as well. Pomp ( if you have electricity) and you have water for free to water your plot.

You said you'd not been down to the plot of a little while so mother nature thought she'd help you out by giving your plot a good watering

Oof. I have a similar problem, as my house and garden are on clay soil. A few days of rain in a row, and my plants are underwater or waterlogged. I’m going to try and do my garden rows in hills and then in theory the rain would run off of them… worth a shot, I figure.

About the glue, they make adhesive to repair pools that can be put on a patch and submerged in the pool to apply it.

I was at the plot yesterday & today and today water levels have went down today....looking at your video, looks like the composting dumping area at the back might be acting as a retaining dyke.....what if a channel was cut through that to the other side, surely the water would then drain away......What's on the other side of the banking.....did notice that the pumps were running near the turn in road to the parking areas, pumping water out onto the garden center car park......when i left on Saturday afternoon, some poor unfortunate gent with a nice Jag had met with water entering the engine when exiting the Garden center car park via the official exit (which was under about 8 inches of water)....🤥

Ohhhh Mark, i promise I will never complain about Rain again.. Feel for you and your plot 😞

Ah is a shame but like you said you've been through it before so know it will soon clear and can get to growing. Maybe you could make a suggestion to the owners of putting a drain through that bank on the other side of the parking area. Not sure what's behind there but could be a possibility. Cheers 👍🌱

Mark i was so worried about going to the plot today it is situated up the hill and i live on the coast yesterday the road was just about passable the sea was breaching the sea wall terrible wind damage being done my worry was I'm also waiting on better weather to totally recover my polytunnel i must have used 2 rolls of repair tape on it as i entered the gate and looked down i could see my plum/apple and cherry trees covered in plastic my heart dropped i have so many young seedlings in the tunnel but when i got to my plot it was still in one piece i haven't a clue where the plastic came from but all was well thank goodness hopefully that's the last big storm till i get it recovered

Phew glad to hear your polytunnel was still in one piece! Iain from Grown Local has sent me a link to some extra wide polytunnel repair tape that I think I'm going to order. Hopefully it'll work better than my half arsed plan of a patch and some No More Nails 😂 With a bit of luck this terrible weather will disappear in the next couple of weeks and we can get back to gardening properly 👍🌱☀👍

Don't think I could face another beer after yesterday 😂😂😂 Luckily with it being so wet recently I didn't have anything planted out in the beds that got hit. The main worry is the asparagus crowns that were put in a couple of years ago. I guess only time will tell if they survive or not. Just needs to be good enough to keep the water off my plot and the communal area in front can flood all it wants 😂 Next week still looks pretty grim on the weather front but things are looking up a little the week after 👍🌱👍

Is that a man made bank at the edge of the flooded area - it looks like that’s what’s containing the water - can’t they dig a section out of it to allow it to drain?

The bank at the side is an area where plot holders can dump their green waste and the land owners come along once or twice a year and clear it away. Its definitely contributes to keeping the water in that area. There used to be a bit of a drain over there but I think over time its had issues. I'm hatching a bit of a plan to get on top of it myself though but it might need to wait till the Autumn time before I can get to it. I like the sound of a discounted plot 🙂 I've hatched half a plan on how to solve some of the flooding in the communal area. If I can get that cracked it should stop the water coming into my plot. Might need to be a job for next Autumn though 👍🌱👍
