I love how fluffy they all are! The two mustang girls are doing so amazing!❤️

My 34 year old mare and 8 year old gelding both choose to lounge out in the open field during our coldest day of the year today. It’s 26 degrees and windy. They could go in a perfectly nice shelter but they don’t seem to mind at all to be out in the cold wind. I did feed the evening mash and hay in the barn shelter tonight for my own peace of mind. It’s amazing how they can stay warm with just an inch of fur and no boots!

There was a 30 something year old Arab at the barn I learned to ride at, and he got the most amazing, crazy long fluffy coat every winter! Only itty bitty kids rode him, but after lessons when we were freezing, we'd always go cuddle him bc he was so toasty and soft. Lol he passed at 38 years old. We miss that old man.

It's very beautiful, but not so easy to live in it. Now i'm living in the caribean, but many years agoo i lived in belgium and there it can be almost the same sometimes. Is'nt it better to use blanquets for the horses? 🤔🎄😘 of course once they have snow on their back, it will be to late.

Actually, most studies on blankets show they tend to compromise thermoregulation in horses’ with good coats as they flatten the hair and don’t allow horses to thermoregulate by adjusting hair angle.

@@Milestone-Equestrian Thank you for bringing this up! I wish more people would adapt their use of blankets on their horses. (for example, we rarely need them in Southern California).

@@Milestone-Equestrian i understand that, but in much west european countrys they shave the horses, because they perspire to much when they are working and training. So they need the blankets. Because mostly they are showhorses, dressage, jumping and eventing, and even for recreation. Of course i see mostly KZread amazones in diferent countrys, like the netherlands, belgium, UK, france, germany, spain and USA. But you explain it very good. And in your case it's probably the best solution. And i was surprised to see that the snow was'nt melting on them. So for your horses 👍🎄

How come we don't see the mustangs with snow coats? Just timing, or do they know to take shelter under the cover in a storm?

Probably timing, if they shake them off, or haven’t recently rolled, usually the snow breaks off on its own, and falls off.
