Cool! I was telling Michael (workforavocados) that I need to spend more time actively working in on my flexibility. While it’s better now than when I began (almost a year ago), my body really doesn’t like rail grabs 🤣

I was the same, it was easier for me to Ollie than to do this. Eventually I learned it and sadly it has become a bit of a crutch and I now get a bit freaked out ollying in transition. But it definitely makes airs like this more reachable for everyday riders.

The nice thing is you can start small and slowly build up. Mine can still get higher so it is something that is never really mastered.

I love your videos! I am super happy I made the entire pump track yesterday for the first time. I am still a bit nervous with ramps, turning and sliding but I am slowly getting there. Never been this addicted to any board sport! That YOW ☠️ looks incredible with a nice concave 🤩

Great tutorial! Compared to previous videos, I really like the new format when you show "first person" the different parts. I think it's better than videos of you doing stuff with a background commentary, as they tend to be a bit sleepy (at least for me ;) ). Your transition is smooth af, keep it up!

Haha, yeah have a pretty good stable built up. Start small and you can get it! Still fun even if you stay below the coping.

Been watching loads of your vids in past few weeks and really enjoying the content! Im looking for a new board and have been eyeing the Skalle, deck looks dope as hell. I have few doubts though when it comes to the WB. Coming from longboarding (downhill mainly) Ive only tried one surfskate before so not much reference to go off, it was yow padang and was really great on flats and light downhill slashing (has 18.5 wb I think against 17 on the skalle). I want to start riding bowls and bit more skatepark (flow mainly, no coping tricks/grinds) a versatility for the other stuff (not too concerned about surf training though). Would you say the diff in WB is gonna make a huge diff ride wise? Would like this to be an all rounder as I travel quite a bit. Thanks and keep making the good stuff!

Wheelbase makes a huge difference, but your stance is the biggest factor. Surfskate Love has some really advanced resources for figuring out the ideal wheelbase / board for your height, weight, stance and riding style for about $10. Might be worth checking out his website. But generally speaking, I like a shorter wheelbase for skatepark and bowl carving and the Skalle is a good fit for me. I do find it a bit short for longer distance flat pumping though.

Another useful video, thanks! Any tips for getting more amplitude? I've been doing backside airs for a while now but struggle to get the wheels above the coping unless I can get a big run-up.

A big run up or finding a carving line that lets you carry in the most velocity is going to be the biggest help but just like an ollie, the timing and technique will help too. If you can time pulling and jumping with as little energy loss as possible, so going up the transition with perfect compression and extension, that will carry into your amplitude.

Thanks! I'm making progress like that so I'll keep practising! It's hard to generate enough speed to air out of a bowl without air-ing out of the bowl if you see what I mean. That wooden bowl in your video with the extension opposite looks handy in that regard.

Hello Mark! I really appreciate what you’re doing and I’ve improved a lot watching your videos. I have a question for you… I used to ride Carver surfskates with CX trucks on the skate park and that’s how I started to improve my skills, now I bought a YOW Fanning Falcon Performer. Mannnn… it’s a hard change for me, I feel less confident and more scared… those Meraki trucks are soooo loose. I love them when I’m just doing some cool turns on flat pavement but on the skatepark it’s a different story 😅 So the question is : Do you adjust the Meraki trucks when you go to the skatepark or u just got used to them with a lot of practice?

It is all about practice! I remember my first few sessions feeling a bit sketchy but the more I used it the more I began to actually prefer looser trucks. I know I am the exception, but I kind of feel CX trucks are overhyped for skatepark use.

It isn't necessary so long as you are jumping and pulling yourself away from the coping, but as you get more advanced you can do that on your way out and get a little extra style and pop.

Three that I have used a few times and seem to be consistent for performance and value are Bones Reds, Zealous ceramics, and I have got a lot of mileage out of some cheapie Rush Bombers that were on clearance. Overall, if you keep them dry, I don’t notice a huge performance difference if I am honest. I have a set of Bones Swiss and they seem marginally faster/smoother, but it might just be a perception bias.

This is the 2022 YOW Christenson Skålle. 16" wheelbase and it surprisingly came with 66mm 80a YOW Cinetics which I don't mind at all.

I’m not too picky, but this video is mostly stock YOW cinetics, curfboard stocks, or smoothstar stocks.

What do you think of this christenson skalle compared to the medina? I’m pretty torn

The shape of the Skalle worked a little better for me, but I was using the old Medina before they upped the Concave. I think you could make either work but if interested in any skate tricks Skalle works a bit better with its nose.

I got my eye on the same deck, the Skalle. Most people like smoothstar for skatepark because they say yow doesn't have a good concave deck, but I think that's an outdated comment, since the Skalle looks like it checks that box. Would you recommend Yow Skalle vs Smoothstar(77 or manta ray)? . I'm a surfer myself and looking for something for the mini ramps at skatepark. Which one do you like for cruising at skatepark?

The best way I can put it is that you will be thrilled with either. The Skålle has loads of concave so that isn't an issue. The effective axel to axel wheelbases between the 77 and Skålle are almost identical, but I love having the nose on the Christensen that allows for some skate tricks that aren't possible on the the Smoothstar. One positive of the Smoothstar is the adjustable spring, so if you don't know what you like for spring looseness, you have some tuning options, but I basically don't change mine since I know what I like and therefore that doesn't really set it apart for my needs. The look of the Christensen in my opinion is tough to beat, but that is obviously subjective. So, go with your heart and enjoy!
