Surfcasting on the North Shore of Massachusetts | From The Surf Ep. 5

Спорт

The North Shore of Massachusetts has a rich surfcasting culture, but it doesn't give up its stripers easily. On this trip, Steve Gallant shows how he fishes the spring and fall run on his home waters, taking Jimmy Fee deep into the marshes and then out along the rocky oceanfront. But first, the two indulge in a local delicacy: fried, whole belly clams.

Those fried clams look unreal. On the way to Montauk there's place on the side of the road called the Clam Bar that serves fried clam strips which are amazing, but those fried clams looked on another level.

Hint: stripers watch wave outflow and know the bigger wave crashes. They wait at the described outflows for the big waves. Time your casts to match the big, heavy waves washing back into the sea. Same goes for yakkers. Wave timing is the key. Some of my most fun days yakking were finding the waves backflow, waiting for the biggest waves and throwing a jumping minnow (floating lure) at the bottom of the funnel. Properly done, the backflow drives the lure deep, tumbling, then floating back to the surface. The exact presentation of a disoriented baitfish. Keep light line pressure to keep the lure from tangling and enjoy !

Great video guys! My only question is how you guys find parking in most spots on Cape Ann? Most of the streets near structure are either private and even if they are not, residents typically treat them like they are. Even in public areas, most lots require you to be a resident. Too much hassle...

You don't. Mass has some of the worst access in the country. You have to do a lot of improvising, asking favors, traveling in alternative ways, and often, just flat out break the law to get in to fish.

Anyone have any tips or good spots from the coast of the south shore? I can never find a spot where I can get more than one striper a day consistently.

@@jessegraham1004 sometimes it just happens not much you can do. I try to keep a pretty tight drag and fight the fish hard and have a plan on where I want to bring that fish if I should hook it.

Turning your back to the water while unhooking a fish or anytime is not a smart thing especially on the rocks. I'm surprised it wasn't edited out it makes you look like a rookie.
