I can’t help but think how I’ve been watching these for years and still get super excited to watch whenever you drop a new one still. Learn a lot about new boards and surf equipment particularly from you and your channel and then self experience.

Noel youve helped me buy every board i own. I currently have a 5’6 33L hydra a Eps 5’6 29 liter black baron, and a pu 29.3 L 6’0 monsta 8. Im wanting to replace my montsta 8, which board would you recommend out of the Pyzel family. I like a lot of carve to snaps and working on more vertical surfing as well. Pleas let me know i want to get thus next board right I live and surf in costa rica 3-5 times a week.

I’m 6’3” 220lbs and love my Pyzalian 2 XL at 6’2” 38.3L. It’s in Dark Arts technology, so fun.

@@jakehardy5997 It's perfect for me. once i get around 39L the board feels too large and less responsive, and bellow 37L i have to paddle too hard and i miss more waves. Depends on the rocker of course, flatter is faster and easier to paddle. I'm a strong paddler, just need to be a better surfer haha

Hi Noel, these videos are amazing. You bring so much knowledge to the table and share it well. I'm an east coast surfer (NY and Rhode Island mainly) and mostly deal with steep and fast beach breaks. Part of the year, I'm in a head to toe neoprene as well. Would you recommend the gremlin for those conditions as well and any thoughts on liters? I'm intermediate, 6'0 and 165 lbs. Thanks again.

Hey, I’m from NY. I like my Astro Pop (twin +trailer) more than my Gremlin (thruster only) for mushy east coast). My favorite groveler right now is the puddle jumper (quad). If I find a used Gremlin I would buy it to try It as a quad. That being said, I haven’t heard anything negative about the seaside and the Mashup looks like the perfect east coast board. Waist high and above and I’m pulling out the Dominator 2, Phantom or Pyzalian 2 depending on how much rubber I’m wearing

Awesome vid! Just what I needed. Im 5´9" 158lb adv intermediate. I recently got a 5'10" (27.2lts) ghost stock dims and fell absolutely in love with it in solid surf. I'm just coming down from a 5'9" phantom xl stock at 30.6lts. I'm planning to get small wave board for the 1-4' waves in Florida, but I'm still undecided between the 5'4" gremlin at 27.6lts and the 5'5" astropop at 27.2lts. I want to get a board that will let me improve my top to bottom game in small surf and get snappy when it's small. I've seen your reviews on both, and read some comments and you usually gravitated towards the astropop for what I want, but on this video you preferred the gremlin. I also thought of staying close to the ghost volume since the designs are already suited for small waves and I want it to be really responsive. Which of the 2 boards would you recommend, and would you go with a bit more volume in my case or stick with my original thoughts? Thanks!

Gremlin… the Squash tail will offer a little more pivot and release. Volume roughly the same as your Ghost

@@ard1778 Gremlin is a Groveler… faster in 1-2’ surf. The RW is a small wave performance board and shreds 1-6’ surf similar to a HPSB due to its outline. Not a good two board comparison as they fit into two different board categories

Thanks for helpful contents as always. Based on your recommendation, I'm looking to buy a custom Pyzalien2 in dark arts construction as my daily driver. I'm 5'7" and 130~135lbs intermediate surfer eager to level up to become an advanced surfer. I surf at least twice a week either beach breaks or wave pool(but my beach break waves are pretty mediocre, not much power and small pockets). I'm currently riding 5'5" eps boards around 24.5~25.2L volume range, and I get that just a little bit of 'up on the water' feel maybe on these boards. Could you please help me choose between Pyzalien2 stock 5'5"(23.1L) and 5'6"(24.1L).. If I go 5'5", I'm also considering adding just the thickness by 1/16 to make it 23.8L. Please help me out Noel...! I really wanna get it right with that expensive price tag in dark arts construction..

If you go custom 5’5” at 23.8L in Datk Arts…. It will float like roughly 24.8L. If you go stock 5’5” at 23.1 it will float like 24L. If your current EPS boards feel a bit too buoyant then maybe go stock and get it to feel like 24. I don’t like the feeling of being on top of the water in overhead waves and the board feels like it’s going to slide out. You will absolutely love the lower volume in the pool…, quicker rail to rail and sharper turns in the pocket. Cheers

Bought P2 on your recommendation a year and a half ago. Best decision. Snapped it a few days ago and looking between P2, Ghost or Radius and would like to know your thoughts. I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. Surf barreling points and steep beachies so need it to handle late drops but maintain good speed. Surf range I’d use it in is chest to well overhead. I’m looking for something with really good paddle power, good knife and hold, good fit in barrels, speed and a bit of agility on turns. 73kg, advanced. I like a bit more volume than normal for speed and stability so I try to stay 27-29L.

It really depends on the Wave and what you like personally. Where I surf (So CA) I like my HPSB’s 5’7” which is 2” shorter than my height. Now if I lived on the North Shore of HI I would want a little more rail line for those powerful waves and my HPSB’s would be at my height at 5’9”. I think a good rule of thumb is your HPSB’s should be roughly your height for intermediate-advanced and better surfers.

Hi brother did you get the wildcat? I've had two (5'6 and 5'9) and man they are really good boards, super fast, forgiving and fun overall. The rails and rocker are just perfect for head high waves

i got the pyzalien 2 in plus dims.. thing was trash.. i found it to be a more performance board, like a shortboard.. waves with shape.. maybe it was the plus dims, or i'm a useless surfer lol..

@@MrB1019 Sorry to hear that man. I am 6'1" 210lbs so I went with the 6'4" at 41L and I find that it gets into most anything. Maybe the sizing was off? I usually use it when waves are a bit bigger or have some push on the take off. In Malibu it definitely struggled on the fatter waves that my fish / 7'0 would be better suited for. This board went insane during the swell this week.

The Phantom is one of the easiest performance boards to shred. Excellent paddler, stable under foot and it shreds in the pocket. That’s the board I recommend for you

Fred Rubble 5.9 x 24.5 litres, that I find paddles better than my C.I. New Flyer 5.6 x 25 litres and even my HK 5.4 x 26,2 litres. Would you go with the standard 5.6 x 25,4 litres, the standard 5.7 x 26,7 litres, or with a custom in the middle? Thank's so much, again.

The Wildcat looks mental!! Volume wise… here are some volume ranges to consider at different skill levels. Pro/Expert 26-28L Advanced 28-30L Intermediate 31-33L Since this board is for bigger waves you might want to add 1-2L to the volume range that suits your skill level best. Heey noel Thank you for your very nice videos! I really enjoy them🥰… Im going next year to bali (and the rest of indo) for over a year… At the moment i have a hypto in 5‘8 nd a fever in 6‘1 and a step up 6‘5 dhd sweet spot 2.0. i love to get new boards😂 my fever need to be replaced because its old and got a finbox out etc… not sure what to buy else… would u go with a pyzel, or again a fever (maybe 6‘0)? Absolutely get a 6’3” Ghost… that’s first on the list. You can go new Fever for sure. The Pyzalien 2 might be a better call… it’s a little easier to shred and paddles a bit better too.

hey, epic video as always thanks Noel :) Am looking to add a pyzel to my quiver... need a high performance board for when the waves are decent. So something to take me from the shoulder/head high swells, into the 6/7ft range. Been thinking about the phantom or ghost but think they might be similar to boards i already have. I've got enough small wave performance boards. Im 5'3 at 47kg, solid intermediate near advanced surfer. Was thinking of the ghost at 5'3 about 22L or so... grom sized haha. @@user-en7pr6ki2h Phantom is the most user friendly… it’s fast, stable, and loves to carve. The P2 is more forgiving compared to Shadow and Ghost and offers quicker pivot in the lip compared to the Phantom

Hi noel, im pretty keen on the mini ghost for bigger days head high and up (I like the shorter board) but I have a 5'5 Firewire Glazer and don't know if these two would overlap eachother too much? I like the glazer up until about head high waves or a litttttlle bit bigger but want something still shortish but with more rocker for the bit bigger and steeper waves? Or do you think i should go with the longer phantom or shadow? Cheers!

I lived on the east coast of Australia. Sydney northern beaches to be specific. At the time I rode Mayhems but now for Sydney I would suggest an EPS Phantom or Darkarts phantom or even Shadow. I would say a Gremlin for the summer days or a nice Twin fin board. And a Ghost for the juicy days, and even for your trips to Indo. A 2 board quiver with the Ghost (regular) and a phantom is a solid pairing and covers a lot of conditions.

The Phantom is easy to shred in all wave types. It’s wave range is best in 3-7’ surf and it paddles incredible due to its relaxed entry rocker. The Phantom loves to carve with its wide point a little in front of center. Check out my review on the Phantom… the board is mental.

But I want them all.

What’s the difference between the gremlin and the mini ghost? Seem like similar concepts..

Gremlin is a true Groveler… it has less overall rocker and more foam. The Gremlin is way faster down the line, it has more glide and get up n go with less effort. The Mini Ghost has more entry and tail rocker so it surfs the pocket with more traction and it can handle overhead waves way better

A 5’9 ghost as a step up in double overhead bali waves! So short!! How big are your guns?? 6’0 🤣

If you like your phantom just go for the ghost! I have the og lineup ghost, shadow and phantom. It could be a 2 board quiver. I surfed 8-10 ft Nias on the ghost and when the swell dropped jumped on the phantom. It was perfect.

@@bselva the ghost is very forgiving! A lot of boards I used to have (bunch of Mayhems and older models from Channel Islands) were very advanced, meaning if your footing is off the board doesn’t work. With the ghost you could be off with your footing, but still be able to turn and when you’re footing is right it’s incredible. Besides that, the range the ghost works is bigger than you expected. Check JJF vs a Japanese guy Ohhara at trestles 2017 at waist high conditions. He was on his ghost. I can surf the ghost in sub par conditions and still surf it aggressively. It would cope very well with flat sections too. I must add that I live in Bali. So I have pretty much always access to powerful waves. So I have been investing in building my quiver with the range of the pyzel ghost family. Right now I would explore the twin fin realm with Album surfboards. But it’s good to have a solid quiver of a range of Pyzel’s. Add to that the next boards will be Darkarts Pyzel’s. Another Ghost but shorter 5’9 (regular ghost 5’11) and probably another Shadow 5’10 in Darkarts. Surfnshow favours iterations of the Ghost such as the ghost mini or the pro. If you don’t mind expanding your quiver i suggest to skip those models like the ghost mini, and get yourself a Phantom instead, or a Gremlin. Instead of a ghost pro get the regular ghost but in the right dimensions.

I live in south California, and I have a 5’11 phantom that I take everywhere. I also normally take a Lost Quiver Killer that fells good in a wide range of conditions. I felt in Hawaii and Fiji I could have a little more board to get me into powerful waves. I felt a longer, round tail Phantom could help. I also tried a 5’8 Ghost mini, it handles average waves quite well. For fun days I have a fish that I shaped myself with the help of a professional shaper. I am surprised how well it works. 😄 Oh, and I can’t be very aggressive, but that is not the board, it is about my skill.

I’ve got the whole family. 3 ghosts 1 shadow 1 phantom 5’9 A 6’2 for the big days A 5’11 older one for in between swells and you don’t wanna lose touch too much and stay on the ghost for the next swell. Another newer 5’11 with heavier glassing to ride the bigger waves with a bit shorter board. A shadow for those fun pockety vertical waves. And the phantom eps for smaller days. Been pairing these with JJF futures exclusively. I find that in smaller waves I would like to have more flex in the fins, it will take time to adjust. But it will add to the spark the eps phantom gives. Paring the eps phantom with large JJF was too much, couldn’t turn. I believe it’s because of the wide tail block. Had to put the medium JJF rear fin to make it work. The large JJF works perfect on the shadow 5’10 Any other solutions for this @SurfnShowReviews I’ve been trying to get my hands on the older JJF futures but they are really hard to get. The older iteration does have more flex. A futures fin with more flex? Situated in Bali Indonesia.

I use AM2’s medium on my Phantom. The rear fin is smaller, I think it helps.

This is all great, but when you surf all of the boards on the same wave, in the same head high conditions..... doesnt show much. Show us a grovel day, or a massive day. Not always when its perfect. Thanks though. Much appreciated.
