Surf Casting for Mackerel

Спорт

Believe it or not you can catch mackerel from the beach and it is pretty simple. In this video I show you my simple rig that has 2 hooks. Of course you can use a traditional mackerel "Christmas Tree", but I am all for simplicity and neatness. Being able to quickly wrap up my rods and put them away in my car with out fuss is a must. Enjoy the video!

Awesome! Always fished for them from piers. Do the mackerel tend to like channels? Looks like you're fishing a boat channel?

Big channels or shipping lanes are the best places to look for them or any place with visible heavier current

Hi Dave, great video. Does mackerels go up the Neponset river or its too shallow for them?

I think its a little too shallow for them. Id try Nut Island, castle island or black falcon.

They are a little worse now that I went for whiting last night! Putting a video together, but it'll take a few days

I didn’t know you can still catch macks in Nov. where can you find them in MA?

Really any of the big Boston peirs or along jetties this time of year. You just have to poke around. Most often you can see them jumping early in the am. Nut Island definetly has them now

Thanks for sharing, which month of fall do they start to show up, I catch them in spring on my kayak but never from shore …

I catch them from shore starting in April then they usually disappear by late May. They come back into shore usually end of September and stay until late December.

Hey Dave, awesome video, thanks for sharing. May I ask what is the best time of day or best tide for surf casting mackerel?

I do better like an hour after the tide starts to come in usually and early morning seems to work best for me.

Awesome video. I'm in the same area as where you fished here. My family loves eating mackerel but I've never tried catching from the surf. What does the season look like for surfcasting for mackerels?
