Thank you for putting this up there. I just bought one of these amps used as my first tube amp. I love the tones you are getting. I am having a really hard time seeing where the knobs are set to, because of how small the little white dots are. Would you be willing to post an approximate number setting for each knob for these tones? I would very much appreciate it.

I bought this amp a few weeks ago and wasn't impressed off the bat. I swapped the tubes and gained some moderate sound improvements but wasn't really all that happy. Despite some of the tones I was hearing on other youtube videos, I just couldn't dial in something I was happy with. I was going to put it up for sale, but I came across this video. I have to say, this review is a masterclass in how to get the best tones out of this amp. I am floored by the sound I am getting now and I would be kicking myself if I had sold it. Well done, Jack. You've got a lifelong fan in me.

Hi Jack - you are a terrific resource for us guitarists and musicians. Your videos are AWESOME and chock full of very valuable information. This video was one of the reasons that I had my eye out for any sales of either the Supro Blues King 10 or 12. I was keeping my fingers crossed on the 12 and sure enough, the oft-mentioned Sweetwater Black Friday sale occurred last week, and I was able to snag this awesome amplifier for $329 including footswitch, cover, and cable. I can go on about why this amp is a perfect fit for me but that's not the point. I did want to relay something to you that appears to be a common complaint of these amps. The reverb on this amp appears to get unusable past 9 or 10 o'clock. This is an observation made not just by me but several others on a popular guitar forum, and, some users in the comments below (namely @Pierre G). It's a little hard to explain but immediately evident when hearing it occur. It starts to get 'mechanical'? 'Washy'? 'Echoey'? at even slightly higher levels. Plus, the tail on the reverb is unusually long. I don't know if that is a Supro characteristic or not, but, it really does seem to be longer than other stock amp spring reverbs. I don't know, do you think there could be some quality control issues with the spring reverb components? Could it be related to the preamp tube? (Sorry, I'm not really an amp tech). I have heard of others swapping out the stock preamp tube in order to get some more clean headroom, and I wonder if there is a relationship between a poor quality preamp tube and the end result of the reverb effect. Finally, I would be woefully remiss if I did not mention how spectacular of a player you are. Your original compositions are superb. I love to stumble onto your videos no matter what you are reviewing! Thanks for sharing your invaluable insights.

Hey, thank you for all that! I appreciate the kind words, really glad you enjoyed the video. It was funny, this video had been getting pretty steady views, but suddenly tons of views and comments due to the Sweetwater sale. Regarding the reverb -- as cool an amp as this is, it is still an inexpensive "consumer level" amp. Sounds like something might be fishy with yours, but the stock reverb tank is pretty cheap. A nice reverb tank would be a pretty easy mod to make this amp better. Tubes as well, like you mentioned. I'm not a tech so I can't comment much more than that though.

Yes a very cool amp I got one when they first came out Impulse purchase LoL but no regrets at all Love the boost but not so about the gain function but maybe a AU7 in the preamp stage would help that What really shined for me was the line out Into my 100 watt Tonemaster it really sounded great Almost turned it into a no pedals needed situation Plus both amps have fx loops so leaves that issue wide open Maybe a speaker upgrade to one with more headroom would be something to think about to make it a top shelf small gig amp But overall I would recommend this amp and great price point as well Fantastic demo Jack Good stuff 👍

COINCIDENCE ?? Hi Jack, me again - I first looked you up for the Blues Deluxe demo, and today for the SUPRO Blues King. Coincidence that the same guy is selling both and you are helping me select the one I want. On the Blues Deluxe, I agree. Change the speaker to an Eminence Governor (I like em better than the Cannabis), and maybe a new set of Mullard tubes (love the tone I get from JJ and Mullard tubes). great look with the tweed too - With the SUPRO, the one I have in mind buying has a torn speaker cloth, I "think" the speaker is blown and may need new tubes. Based on what I heard on your video - to my ear the SUPRO sounds best with the single coil and Filtron pups. Maybe the Gib LP pups are a little too hot?? To me made the amp sound screechy and a noisy... As for looks the all black is a little drab. Since I have to change the speaker cloth (if I buy it), I would maybe try a vintage brown speaker cloth for a little contrast. ANYWAY - Thanks again for making great and informative videos.

I got one of these recently to use with my Les Paul- I was looking for a low wattage tube amp a bit more aggressive than the blues junior. I have so far been pretty satisfied with the tones. Im most pleased with the natural breakup with and without the boost. The gain is acceptable with a compression pedal engaged. The volume/gain function is nice to have at low volumes and the fact the amp isnt unbearably loud at full tube saturation is also very convenient. Breakup is tight, but wish it had a little less low-clipping. Chassis removal is easy if tubes have to be changed out (mine had messed up tubes so i stuck in name brand tubes). When i engage the bridge humbucker, im getting a bit of a scooped sound- i think thats the voice of the 490t pickup, id like to scrap those for some duncan paf replicas at some point. The amp is rewarding, and inspires me to play a few hours everyday on the weekend, and a hour or more after work days.

Love this review Jack! I have a BK12 and I do like it; tons of features for the money and it’s my first tube amp. I wanted more clean headroom so I upgraded to JJ tubes and changed the pre-amp to a 12AU7 long plate (recommendation from another KZread channel who did the same). I still find the tone a bit dark; anyone want to recommend a replacement speaker? I’ve watched tons of KZread videos but the ones I like are sounding similar... I’m not sure of KZread gives me an accurate sound anyway. So far I like Celestion G12M or Neo Creamback? Eminence Lil’ Texas or Swamp Thang? I’m open to ideas. Furthermore I may not be playing enough on the amp to have broken it in too (kids and a wife prevent using this at night and during the day I use a JHS little black box).

  • @JackFossett

I love Eminence speakers, but they tend to be a bit on the darker side themselves comparatively with other brands, so if you're looking to brighten it up I think a Celestion may be the ticket. I bet a greenback would work well in it.

I also didn't like the darkness and also the really harsh way that it breaks up (although that is part of it's intended sound?). I already had a Celestion Gold 10 in another cabinet and thought it was worth trying. I think it greatly helps with my 2 issues and sounds great. Now I have to decide whether to put the 10 in the Supro (with a reducer) or spring for a 12. I also put a JJ 5751 in the preamp and it has helped raise the headroom nicely as well. I'm also open to any other speaker suggestions

Thanks! So it depends on your needs. For the price this one is tough to beat, however, its not the loudest amp and wont give you a ton of clean headroom (i.e. the louder you need it to be, the less clean tones you'll have). Are you playing in a band? The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe would be a more versatile gigging amp with louder clean tones and channel switching, but then this one is more portable and can probably get a wider range of tones.
