Ok so it looks like ive reached the best place to possibly (finally) get a well formed opinion. I found your channel while researching cricut vs silhouette originally. I love your content! Im so thankful for this channel. I havent bought any machine yet and its because of my dilemma: Im not a regular "crafter" per se, im a sewist who has started to dabble in pdf patterns for my daughter who is small but tall for her age. I HATE printing these PDF patterns! Ive tried printing and projecting them and honestly hated both ways. So I got to thinking, and figured for her measurements I could probably fit most of the patterns on the 24 inch mat! I also make doll clothes that would easily fit even the 12 inch. But im not the target audience for these machines so im unsure what is the better buy? Id love if I could cut on the fabric directly but if not possible, just the pdf patterns on paper would be good. So am I wrong? Can I do that on these machines? Would some other equipment be needed to make this work? And if I can do this what machine is best? Any input, insight or opinion is welcome! Oh and as a P.S, I should add that im willing to spend because im now getting requests to make other peoples kids clothes but the idea of PDF printing is so nauseating to me 😂. Plus I dont want go somewhere to get them printed all of time. Thus the willingness to spend for such a specific request

To be honest, none of these machines will be efficient to cut and make clothing with. Yes, it can be done, but it's a lot of setup work between getting a file that will work as a cut file and then prepping the fabric. To cut with a regular blade, the fabric needs to be stabilized. This requires extra prep time. I just cut fabric this past weekend and posted a few times on the Swift Creek Customs Facebook page. I was able to do it, but it's just not that efficient. And you will waste a lot more fabric than cutting by hand. The Siser Romeo and Silhouette Cameo Pro both cut with a 24" mat. The Cameo Pro has a rotary blade, but again, my opinion is that it's not that efficient and a lot of setup time.

@SwiftCreekCustoms ahh dang ok but I seriously appreciate the reply and honesty! I'm going to look for those videos on FB but it seems I'm back to the drawing board 😑. I wonder if simply using them for cutting a pattern to paper be just as much a hassle? I know the software is different so I'm unsure if it's a headache to adjust a pdf download to the cutting machines software

@@menak8870 Silhouette Designer Edition or higher can open a PDF, however, you would still have to turn that into a cut file, which can sometimes be a big headache. Here is more on PDF files with Silhouette - silhouette-secrets.com/2021/05/16/lets-explore-v4-opening-a-pdf/ In that tutorial, I show a bit about what it's like to work with a PDF. And then all PDFs will vary. Siser Leonardo Design Studio currently doesn't have the ability to open PDF files. As you can see above, they can be quite complex to try to turn into a cut file. It's on their list, but still in the works.

@SwiftCreekCustoms thank you so much you're awesome and your reviews and explanations are so thorough! I just found the FB videos I think and umm yeah I think you still ironically sold me on the Siser Romeo but atleast I know what I'm signing up for. It may not be an easy ride but this machine has soo much potential in general its making it hard to pass up!

Can I ask if you use a different blade to cut cardstock?

I keep separate blades for each material. It helps them last longer. Now that supplies are available worldwide, I have separate housings marked with each blade type so I can grab and go. I still do test cuts each time.
