Fun fact! If you add up the total cost for a '16 Miata Club (~19K or less), car wrap (~3K), and supercharger (~5K), you're at $27K, well under the price of a new Miata Club (~$31K club, ~$35K with BBS & Brembo package like this car has). Will it be as reliable as a new Miata? Absolutely not! Will it be more fun?! I think so! Big thanks to AutoTempest for sponsoring this episode! bit.ly/2Bq1wbw

12:00 C'mon Jason, you know Miata owners have faith that Big Black Things will fit into Tight Spaces. 😜 But there is a catch... you have to move things to the side a bit. ... The problem is the frail gearbox 😥

Jason you may find this reassuring, when I was in auto body repair we had 4 high milage (350,000-450,000km) Mazda CX-5s come in, engines sounded great, just in for body repairs from accidents. I asked all the owners when they came to pick them up how much maintaince have the put in? Routine maintaince, breaks early was common amongsts them, and one person had an automatic transmission fail but thanks to the unlimited milage warrenty they were covered, and got it replaced for free. They were towing when it happened (perhaps over capacity) Carbon build up wasn't mentioned as an issue. Perhaps it's because they were all mainly highway vehicles, less change in speed, less PCV use? I was surprised to see build up as it was an issue that Mazda adressed in the press release of the SKYACTIV G engines. They mentioned proper heat would eliminate build up, perhaps having more fun with this supercharged power will help?

@@toad3222 While a lot of them were mostly highway that's not to say none of it was city, regardless that's a lot of run time and they were all holding up very well. I don't think anyone would argure Port Injection will generally hold up longer than Direct Injection motors given the same driving situations and regular maintaince. Though perhaps the SKYACTIV 2.0L will hold up better than the Honda 2.2 with an 8000 redline and a tendancy to burn oil.
