I'm a water skier and not a jet boater but I have a suggestion as I have been around and worked on boats all my life. A problem with jet boats in racing is actually the intake. When the hull is plaining very fast the water pickup is sometimes too high at the rear stopping enough water entering the motor and so the water gets hotter in the motor and setting of your sensor. Finnigan had a similar problem with his jet boat and was able to repair it by adjusting the water intake. Don't look at the exhaust or restrict the water flow. When marine motors are revving they need a lot of motor pushing through them and any restriction will not fix the problem. I hope this may help. KR

Taylor, I’m an old school boater, wood boats and my 16’ Checkmate boat had a air scoop facing forward to grab air as the craft moved forward, and another facing in the rear for air/ heat to escape. I did not notice a forward facing scoop. My thinking is the ambient air temperature inside the engine compartment rises enough to set the heat sensor off. To prove this, ride with your deck cover slightly open, use a block of wood, and something to hold the engine cover from opening while running top speed. This may be the trick. Let us know in the next video.

If you fell out I think the boat would keep going leaving you stranded! IDK really if it's necessary but I think it's a good safety feature to think about. Other then that she's a ripper for sure!!

Taylor, I might have an idea for the exhaust. I think you're onto something when you mention steam, but I really don't think it's overheating. When you are moving at a slow speed water is building up in the muffler keeping the sensor cool. When you are running the boat hard, the same amount or a little bit more water is going into the muffler but a whole lot more exhaust and a lot hotter exhaust gas is going into the muffler. The exhaust gas is doing 2 things at high rpm. it's super heating the water and atomizing it since the exhaust is flowing through so fast. You improved the time it takes to set off the overheat warning by installing restrictors in the hoses but it wasn't enough to keep the sensor cool at wide open running. That baffle might have been installed to slow the flow of water through the muffler or keep the sensor in liquid. It's just a thought. Maybe relocating the sensor to a spot where it would be in a stream of water? Another thing you could try is, removing the sensor using an ohm meter and a thermometer heat up a pot of water, put the sensor in and read what temp the sensor closes. Is there a engine temp gauge? Is it reading hot when the warning goes off? Could you just eliminate the muffler all together? How about installing an exhaust pyrometer? I'm looking at some and their temp ranges are 0-1600° Other than the over heat warning the boat is really coming along nice.

In defense of using two sticks of tubing, its way easier to get it right. I bend pipes for a living as a electrician, and back to back bends 90's or in this case right angles are a mother fucker for a lot of sparkies, let alone a dude in a garage that doesn't know about shrinkage and deducts. Good job Taylor!

When you do re-do the deck mat, use the same brown as the steering wheel. Brown always looks classy on a boat

When doing vinyl work I would highly recommend using something called Rapid Tac. Used it at the sign shop I worked at and it makes a huge difference when you go to apply it. Just spray the back of the vinyl with it before you start to apply it, then just work out the bubbles with a squeegee. Windex also works in a pinch but Rapid Tac works the best.

if its proper wrap vinyl you dont want to wet apply as its designed to go on dry and moisture can get trapped in the air release channels

Most high flow fast pumps have a hump in the hull ahead of the intake to smooth out the flow. It forces laminar flow around the curve and directs the water into the intake. Some race boats even have an upside down NACA Duct that treats water like air for a smoother flow. ALSO: Very early head gasket failure acts like your problem too.

I think a gold pinstripe between the blue and white would look good. Plus it goes well with every color on the boat. Nice progress!

Careful with the restrictor on the output; you’re risking blowing a headgasket without a water pressure gauge. 12psi is the typical max you want. If it was my boat, instead of running a restrictor, I would run a gate valve (NOT A BALL VALVE) so you can fine tune your water flow.
