    Finally, a proper British review of an American car. I've always loved the F-150, just wanted to see a professional opinion by a credible source. And Drive Tribe mark my words, you're going places.

    Who thinks the Raptor is an American "car"? This is a specialized off road vehicle, known as a truck in the land of it's birth. It's "OK" (powerful) on road but huge and unwieldy. It is extremely high in technology with all imaginable bells and whistles and is suitable for nearly any transportation need, with great safety and comfort. In it's intended environment, there is no competitor (sorry Dodge). It's a crazy, grand, bumptious statement by a company interested in your interest and prepared to go far to get it. If you buy it for prestige and don't take it off road, you probably won't like it. The Atom has no modern technology, is unequipped for protection from the environment, is incapable of dealing with rough terrain at speed and would only be driven on road by fanatics. To equate these vehicles to each other is pointless, they could hardly be more dissimilar. The Atom has it's place and it is where UTVs are found, a relatively small place in the grand scheme of things, whereas the Raptor can do it all. Almost anyone would happily drive a Raptor but many would absolutely refuse to drive the Atom in either version, noting the lack of body panels and a wind screen among others.

And by the way, making such a huge JUMP in a 5560 lb(2.5 ton TRUCK) SHOWS HOW INSANE the RAPTOR is.. This was a huge revelation. I'd have put money on the Nomad being the better choice for this sort of terrain, but it was so obviously outclassed by the Raptor. If your drive wheels are not touching the ground, they are not pushing the car, and the Nomad's rear wheels spent almost as much time in the air as touching the ground. If your steering wheels are not touching the ground, then they are not going to steer the car... It's a choice I doubt I'll ever have to make, but if I did, I would definitely be looking at the Raptor after seeing this video.

And considering the immense distances traveled out there in the desert wastelands, both the imports would amass a small fortune towing them away in their broken state.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, almost always considered the world's best trail/rock crawler, barely beats the Raptor in those situations, and only because it is less wide and has better approach/departure angles. my wife decided to get rid of her JKUR pretty much immediately upon driving my Raptor

  • @shoutykat

    Nope, just set up for different terrain. The Raptor is specifically set up for flat out Baja crazy and it does that really well. Throw the two at a winding dirt road in a Welsh forest and things would likely be rather different. They are meant for different kinds of fun.

    It's a full-size pick-up truck, it needs to be able to tow and haul in the bed, leaf springs rear suspension is still the best for that application. Mercedes uses leaf springs on their Sprinter for a reason, not because they are primitive.

And also that little comment about wild tires was ridiculous. This is being viewed by enthusiasts, we have seen wilder tires.

    PorscheF1 The quality is bad compared to what. Can you name a car in this price that can be this capable off road while have a good interior?

  • @flatsix9400

    @flatsix9400

    7 жыл бұрын

    Well, that's what makes this car so desirable, there is nothing so cheap with comparable off road capabilities, but that does not imply the quality of its interior is any good in comparison to let's say a VW Amarok. Do understand that I do not mean that it does not work very well, but it's a pretty well known fact the quality of the materials used besides those of the engine and suspension in American built cars is nowhere near the quality in Europe. One of the best examples is the Ford Fusion and Mondeo comparison. Same car but one would always take the Mondeo.
