SuperBowl XVI 16 featuring Up With People Halftime 1982 HD - StevenOchoa3
Музыка
Half-time Show from the Superbowl 16 1982 with music from the 1960's featuring Up With People cast members. The games was between the 49er's and Bengals, with Diana Ross singing the National Anthem and introduced by Phyllis George. Performed at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan
I took my old video and attempted to process in HD & HQ to repair video quality visual and sound and now able to show complete video now that my time has been increased by KZread.

This was better than the Super Bowl 53 halftime show.....lol!!!!
I remember this performance well, and was very inspired by it. In fact I was so inspired, I went right down to the Renaissance Hotel the next day to interview for a part with them! I was accepted! My then boyfriend said he would not wait for me when I got back if I went on tour. Unfortunately I conceded to his wishes. We split up only a short time later! :-/

I like the shot at 12:44 of the dressing room!
I enjoyed Beavis and Butt-Head's suggestion, a GWAR-led group named "Up Your Butt with People."
12:43 for a fraction of a second, the feed cuts to a messy room of empty stools and costumes hanging above some benches.
I remember watching this on live original broadcast! :) What stuck with me the most was the "Hey Jude" soloist (10:09-10:20) who reminded me of a school friend...he seemed to REALLY be enjoying himself up there...I hope his and your life since have been as happy...Thanks for posting this!

Factors involved in that were fewer channels than today, two Cinderella teams in the Super Bowl, and the fact the weather was horrible over most of the country.(Bitter cold snap across the US) In Minneapolis and most of Minnesota we had two major snowstorms the week before this game which dumped over 30 inches of snow so nobody could really go anywhere if they wanted to.
Thanks for the memories: Around 1978 we had a snall ranch near Manassas, Virgina. We had horses, dogs, cats, etc. so when Up with people came to our area, we got the opportunity to provide a place for them to stay for a few days. We had a young man from France, a young girl from Germany. They stayed with us for quite a few days. They were performing at a place called "wolf trap", an outdoor theatre that had performers such as Peter, Paul, and Mary, John Denver, Pat Boone, etc. We spent many nights on the lawns of wolf trap. The "up with people group became right at home and had picnics in our yard for other members of the group. I still think about these young people and was envious of their enthousieast activity. We went to the Centreville Baptist Church, so a few of them performed for the church I still have the LP albomes that they gave us in exchange for our hospitality. Wish the group was still with us. They were a great inspiration for young people.

Interesting to see that this was a night game. I could be wrong, but I was thinking the Super Bowl was still played in the afternoon in the early 1980's. I know it had become a night game by the time I was in high school in the late 80's.

Up With People may not be as big nowadays as it was in the 1970's and 80's, but yes, I am quite sure it is still around. I actually remember singing the Up With People theme song in school, and that would have been about this same time (early 1980's).

@@timothysprengeler4071 Yes they are most certainly still around and still headquartered in Denver. Though traveling casts have been on-hold since Covid. Hoping they start again soon. I was a member in '66-'67. And since moving to Denver in 2006 I haven't missed a dress rehearsal/kick-off show. I love them beyond belief!
Up With People is what would happen if you cloned the Brady Bunch, let them breed like rabbits, and encouraged them to take up music. I actually attended one of their shows around 1970, when I was an impressionable teen, and I don't think I've ever quiet recovered.

When the Super Bowl half-time show was the best! Up with People should be the only performance allowed during the big game.
A minority opinion, I know, but I like these old-school halftime shows SO much better than the overdone "extravaganzas" that pass for halftime shows at the Super Bowl nowadays. I performed in the show choir at my high school for 2 years, and we sang a beach-themed 60's medley that actually had a few of these songs in it.
