It's a real pity that a lot of these Assist Trophies never had a chance to shine to be playable characters in Smash Bros. There are exceptions like Little Mac and Isabelle, just to name a couple, but combatants like Lyn, Majora, Midna, Ghirahim, Samurai Goroh, and especially Waluigi never had the chance to be playable, which is rather tragic.

I think Ultimate only having 2 promotions was a bit lame and them both being either a semi clone or an echo, Isabelle and Dark Samus. I think Little Mac aged better since he’s neither of those of things, regardless of what a tier list says about his competitive viability.

All I said was that there were several Assist Trophies that never got the same promotion of being playable characters in a Smash Bros game. And besides, even if there was a confirmation that there's another Smash Bros game on the way, who's to say that it's gonna be as good as Ultimate? For all we know, Nintendo could rerelease Ultimate as a Deluxe Edition much like how they added Mario Kart 8 on the Switch, or make a sequel that has the potential cutting content. Only time will tell.

Rathalos as an assist trophy might be the coolest and most terrifying moment in a battle. He just casually descends to the battlefield and chaos ensues, Monster Hunter really needs more representation lmao.

Assist Trophy Perfect-Attendance Crew: Hammer Bro, Waluigi, Knuckle Joe, Samurai Goroh, Metroid, Dr. Wright, Starfy, Lyn, Jeff, Andross, Shadow, Nintendogs, and Devil. Little Mac, Dark Samus, & Isabelle: Assist Trophies that became fighters. Rathalos: The only Assist Trophy that is also a boss character.

A minor nitpick of mine that started in Smash 4 and was kept in Ultimate. The sound effect in Brawl for summoning assist trophies was soulful ear candy, and made it satisfying to up the item and hear that sweet sparkly sound when setting it off, however you could get stun locked if your opponent was smart enough to jab lock you and stall you from summoning, always found that funny. It’s the hammer item whenever the head piece falls off or the squeaky golden hammer.

@@brandonwilliams6119idk, personally, I found Brawl to have the weakest sound design in series history, and found Smash 4 and Ultimate’s more… flashier sound effects to be a big improvement (though oddly enough, I actually think Smash 64 and Melee had the peak of sound design in Smash history, way moreso than the newer games) I do kinda miss the Brawl assist trophy sound, though

These are all great choices. Here are some changes I personally would make. For Byleth, I would have Flame Emperor as the assist trophy, since Sothis is already part of their final smash. It wouldn't make sense for her to be an assist trophy, but to also be in a final smash, but then again, look at Spring-Man. Speaking of ARMS... As a reference to Min-Min's reveal trailer, I would have Kid Cobra as her assist trophy because of the variety of arms he has with them being a longer range than both Min-Min and Spring-Man combined. I would have Jin as the assist trophy in place of Azucena since Tekken 7 Kazuya was used for Smash Ultimate, and Azucena did not exist at any time before Tekken 8. I'd also have Andy Bogard in place of Mai because, like Sakurai said, "Super Smash Bros is for good boys and girls." Plus, CERO and ESRB is strict enough already as to what can and cannot be put in an A rated and E10+ rated game already, and Sakurai already doesn't like the censorship with the work he had to do with Palutena to make her more family friendly, that would mean more work for all parties involved. Sorry if this is a lot. 😅

I have to say that was a really great improvement for the new super smash Bros games For them to actually summon Characters from other games to aid you temporary for the battle

One good thing about the assist trophies in Super Smash Bros Ultimate is that we can summon three of them either to fight against the computer or against us or at each other.

Whenever I see Skull Kid show up inside of the assist trophy, I always take a picture of him just to show how much I love this mischievous imp. I'm not even kidding. I really hope Skull Kid shows up as a playable fighter in the next Smash game. I would love for Skull Kid's final smash to be him summoning the moon from Majora's Mask and crashing any opponent that in its ways, killing them if the opponent's percentage is high.

Brawl had the best assist trophies hands down. I miss them all.

Can we get a moment of silence for the assists that were only in one game throughout the entire series?

Hot Take - Assist Trophies not getting promoted in the same game is a huge missed opportunity altogether, They are nice to have, I don’t mind them but the fact that you can turn them off makes them not feel as important as a main playable character, I'd rather not have them at all. Not to mention they made half a moveset for Zero, Krystal and Knuckles just to make them glorified items, while half assed movesets like Isabelle's got to see the light of the day. Same with Daisy, Dark Samus and Richter being lazy echoes which they might as well be glorified costumes. Also Min Min, Pyra and Mythra being former Base Game Spirit PNGs and eventually getting the Promotion. Hoping next Smash Game makes Assist Trophies more important and involved like maybe a separate mode for them? Rather then just items you can turn on and off.

Isabelle is a semiclone, just like Luigi, Falco, and Lucas, don’t really see the issue, also, Krystal’s just a way less popular and relevant character, and Zero and Knuckles are third-party characters (and third-party series only got echo fighters for second representatives in the base game, and Sephiroth was likely added in the DLC as an excuse to give Final Fantasy that extra push to actually get meaningful content like music tracks) Also, even the Assist Trophies that do function kinda like playable fighters are not exactly balanced like fighters are, usually having more powerful attacks and way higher jumps

Before I was against Waluigi but After I play Mario kart 8 and Mario tennis I really like his character and I would see get in smash before Geno.

MAKE LYN PLAYABLE, NINTENDO! I don’t care how “revealing” she is! Just use her character model from FE Warriors! (And change her voice actress… I don’t like the recycled voice clips of the old one…)
