Ninjaguy5700 There used to be fighting games with A LOT of characters and not one DLC. At the end, with more and more DLCs, you'll be basically paying for the game twice. I don't really care about Smash, but I found all this a scam.

Ryu was an insane reveal back then! It kind of stunk that there were references to him and Roy in an uodate's code prior to the reveal. It ruined the surprise, but if the devs weren't releasing patch notes, how else were people supposed to learn about changes? I remember people going nuts over all the different moves Ryu had, and worrying about having to memorize command inputs. 6+ years later, and Kazuya is making Ryu look like a starter fighter! I will say that I regret the stage choice for the Street Fighter series. Big pits and a walkoff? Who likes to play on this stage? The other "fighting game" fighters (Terry Bogard and Kazuya Mishima) got WAY more interesting and fun stages, both of which are more similar to their source games. (Honestly, new stages in Smash Bros Ultimate are way better than they were in past games, with no stinkers I can think of.)

To be fair, that was before they saw how positive the response was to the DLC. We've gone through quite a few years of DLC having a bad rap outside of Nintendo, they probably wanted to stay out of that mess. But these guys have done it right and with respect to the original content, so it's worked out great so far. And yes, dat money too. :)

The fact that Ryu was added is really underrated. Street Fighter 2 is one of more iconic fighting games of all time and one of the first fighting games. Literally Ryu was added.

Jack Boardman I miss it greatly and was upset when I heard Smash 4 would not have any type of story mode. It was epic seeing all these iconic characters working side by side for a common goal, even if they started off as enemies.

After all DLC was released I gotta say this was the most impressive out of the 4 broadcasts. It was hype from beginning to end.

yoshifan 34567 My favorite was the 50 fact with Mewtwo as a surprise. I was calling that Mewtwo would be DLC since July and i was so happy to see that announcement. This was my favorite due to amount of content combined with some very big hype moments(if only the blasted leakers didn't ruin everyones fun).

All respect to your opinion, but I disagree. We already knew Ryu and Roy were coming from data mines, and the Splatoon costumes were already revealed before as a pre order bonus. Everything else was either uninteresting, somewhat cool, or cringe-worthy (the Isabelle costume). The fact that the DLC was all released that day was cool, but the servers couldn't handle it all XD. This is all my opinion, but you're free to tell me why you thin, this presentation was the best.

I miss this Ryu, too broken and really good!

I’m so glad Ryu from Street Fighter was added. This is what got me hyped for smash. He will always be my main.

any one notice how sakurai organized his amiibos by when they came to smash, he has smash 64 characters in box one, then the character after that are melee, then last of box 1 and top half of box 2 are brawl and the rest of box 2 is smash 4.

Pollock_6 The Kongs technically didn't. Donkey and Mario were featured in Donkey Kong before there was a Mario franchise (although I wouldn't call it part of the modern Donkey Kong franchise either). But Diddy has nothing to do with Mario other than crossovers in Mario Kart and the like.

I feel so bad for Ryu being robbed of such a thunderous reveal. Announced and released on the exact same day, but spoilers and leaks taking away any of the hype that would have been associated with that. That lost of hype I feel contributes to his smaller player base to this day.

Aside from Mewtwo I'm probably the only Smash Bros fan who didn't know about Lucas Roy Ryu being leaked so my blind reaction to them at time was actually genuine! The same applies to the Bloody Tears/Galaga Medley leak lol

Crispy they aren't a port they are a remake the original files are too old to be transferred so they had to recreate all the 64 stages from scratch meaning they put the effort in to make it look exactly like the original so you and others would think they just ported it over

SlyBiffrons That may be true (I don't know a lot about Simon Belmont), but third-party characters have a pretty high bar for Sakurai. Notice how all four of them are recognized by just about any gamer ever.

Fernando Banda I'd say Castlevania is a pretty recognized franchise. Belmont was part of the iconic NES lineup alongside Mario and Zelda. Sure, Castlevania is dwarfed by Street Fighter in popularity but still, something to be considered. Not to mention that Shulk is a character and his game is still pretty niche.

Castlevania may have been popular, but I don't think AS popular as Sakurai wants third-parties to be. But this argument is just for third-party characters, though. I'm sure more than half the Nintendo cast isn't as recognizable as Pac-Man, Mega Man, Sonic or Ryu, but it's their characters, so they don't mind.

Ryu looks like a tough character to master... but very very powerful if you manage to. He might be worth the money!

That was the dev team's fault, though. Back then, they didn't release ANY patch notes, so people were forced to dig into the code to see changes and compile lists. When they did that, they found all sorts of references to Roy and Ryu. Those didn't need to be there! If the devs absolutely HAD to lay groundwork for the characters in a release version, why not make their object references anonymous, like "fighter60" or "dlcChar4"? The team has done FAR better preventing leaks with Ultimate, and I don't know if any characters have been accidentally revealed through patch notes.

"All of these Amiibos will be available this September." ROFL!!! Good one Nintendo! I didn't know you had such a sense of humor.

***** indeed, and the biggest F-U comes in form of R.O.B. . To get the amiibos is already nearly impossible. Now add alternate chase figures to the mix and the mess gets even bigger. I am not hyped by the announcements at all, rather sad. Since the wave with Daraen and Lucina (even before with Shulk and Rosalina) it's a disaster to find new figures to normal prices. They should produce a higher quantity of all sets. There is no problem with the Disney Infinity Line or Skylanders, so why with amiibos?!

Man I loved this presentation, there wasn’t a single bad announcement here. Roy finally returned, we got some awesome stages and Mii Fighter costumes, Ryu joined the battle, and all of it was made available that very day! It’s the polar opposite of the final presentation, honestly.

Saw this in my reccomends after watching the Joker gameplay reveal. Things have come so far man. Its amazing to see how Smash has evolved over time

Well, I'd been spoiled about Ryu and Roy, but holy crap did I not see Ryu's mechanics coming! ATM he's looking like the only DLC character I'll buy.
