    Good Evening! Really enjoyed the way you explained it all . I too own a super meteor 650 and recently changed the Mufflers to AEW ones (its an Indian manufacturer for exhaust systems) . Did the job as a sunday project and bike feels totally different , it pops and bangs while deceleration. The added thum just makes it sound so amazing. ✌🏻✌🏻

    Morning Dave and all 😊 I am always interested to see mods that you and others do to your bikes, fortunately I am quite happy with just a couple of little mods on my interceptor but the one I am most interested in doing is converting to belt drive as apparently there are kits available also for the super meteor as well, but cash is in short supply as a house move is on the cards 😊 so it will go on the back burner for a while 😢 keep em coming.

    Nice job, Dave. They look really good on the bike. Exhausts, whether on cars or bikes are always an emotive issue. I personally always gravitate to keeping a bike looking as stock as possible but totally understand that the fitting of aftermarket is all part of the fun for many and fair play to them. The tone and sound of an exhaust is more difficult to quantify. Many Japanese bikes of my era in the early 80s, that were 3 years or older, usually had 4 into 1s fitted and whilst riding them, they sounded fantastic. From a pedestrian's point of view, however, they sounded awful. The only time systems like that sounded good as a spectator, was at a race track with the bikes at full bore. It's like the young riders now who have small capacity single cylinder sports bikes. At the earliest opportunity, they fit an a.m. system. They sound absolutely hideous to my ears! Yet from their point of view, it probably sounds brilliant to them. Thankfully, in your case, you've achieved a perfect balance, Dave. Not only does the bike sound good from a rider's viewpoint, your machine sounds good at tick over too and therefore unobtrusive for anyone else. Good one, bud. 👍

    Brilliant replacement TBW! Thank you for actually taking the time to remove the O2 sensors completely off the connectors without thus not twisting the harness into a licorice🫡 My only surprise is there is no mid mount as per the original design. It is literally 2 points of suspension. Perhaps, they are a damn less heavy? Did you ultimately use a spacer of wood to gain the clearance & then have to loosen the exhaust flange mount to achieve this? Thanks for sharing ⭐️

  • @thebingleywheeler

    @thebingleywheeler

    Thank you Steve yes no mid mount needed as the whole thing is much lighter. I just positioned it by eye finally but by then it was all in place 👍🏻

    I always leave the standard pipes on my bikes , unless they are totally rotted or damaged ,or cost more than the bikes worth to fit factory replacements . The quieter the pipes the better ,as I can’t stand & don’t wear ear plugs & don’t want a headache . Also I reckon loud pipes can antagonise other road users , & not make you popular with your neighbours late at night or early on Sunday mornings . I always leave my engines, air boxes / filters ,carbs / fuelling ,& exhaust if possible bog factory standard . The motorcycle manufactures ,spend millions & years on R&D ,to find the right balance of reliability ,performance ,fuel economy ,compliance to any vehicle regulations & longevity . Even if I was into fitting after market cans ,or upgrading parts ,I would get my moneys worth & only change them as the originals ,needed replacing . I suppose in your case ,as you don’t keep your bikes long enough ,if you didn’t fit after market swag ,you would never get the chance to fit much . 👍

    I had loud pipes for a while but went back to the stock ones. I prefer quiet pipes too. However on the highway loud pipes, unless they are extremely loud, are not the least bit loud to the rider. Since they are behind you and also face backwards at 60 or 70 mph they don't hurt your ears at all. On the highway, I cannot hear my stock pipes at all... and actually I would prefer to hear them a little bit. Instead, the real issue is wind noise. Wind noise is more likely to give you a headache and also way, way more likely to slowly ruin your hearing. Not wearing earplugs can give you a constant ringing in your ears from damage due to wind noise. It's also something that you probably won't notice until it's too late.

    @@jlrutube1312 Always could hear stock pipes on all my bikes on motorway plus induction ,especially on inline fours . I have rode bikes for 50 years plus ,don’t wear ear plugs ,can’t stand them ,like to hear what’s going on & what’s around me . I find the make & fit & positioning of air vents on some helmets increase wind noise causing a whistling or roaring effect . I purchase helmets with a good fit on my head that cuts out the extreme wind noise effects & also always have a windshield fitted plus deflector if needed .

    Many say 'Loud Pipes Save Lives'... they don't, they just annoy the non-biker community ..Tone isn't the same thing as Loud. A pleasant exhaust note is part of the Biker's riding experience...You've got that cracked!. l guess you have saved a little weight as well..Homologation is a huge deal/stumbling block here in Spain.. Fitting any kind of exhaust other than the factory fitting will ensure the wrath of the engineer doing a ITV test..(MOT)...and will cause an instant fail.......

    You can’t always get hold of the original factory exhaust , especially if that model of bike was only sold for a couple of years . So not being able to fit a compatible after market otherwise legal exhaust system & cat , could render a perfectly good bike obsolete ,& leaving the owner hugely out of pocket .
