    if you lost your speedometer when you installed the atlas case and you would like to have one. you can use something like a trail tech for like $100-$130. i bought one that was made for an atv and i use it in my buggy. you just put some jb weld on a magnet and stick it to your wheel and put a little sensor on your axle (i think it could be installed on a drive shaft too). you can set it up for whatever tire size you are running and conveniently change it anytime you change tires. it also has an odometer, ambient temp, engine temp, volts, rpms, programmable shift light, clock, and more (depending on the model)... i had to get some extension wires from trail tech because i have a rear engine buggy.

    I was thinking about going that way with my Jeep and I'm still on the fence if I need to gear any lower than I already am. Currently running a Dana 300 behind a Muncie Saginaw sm465. Based on the crazy fitment issues I had (many hours of machining to get things clocked in addition to having to go with an advance adapters twin-stick kit) my crawl ratio is pretty good right now with 35 inch tires and Dana 44's with what I think is standard gearing. With my 454 at about 3000 RPM I'm doing maybe 4 miles an hour. Plenty of torque, but once I get into the woods and climbing some rock I'll see how much clutch I need to keep things manageable! For the swap I used both the advance adapters kit to meet my transfer case to the transmission which I found to be lacking options for clocking (big bummer) but I really appreciated the versatility in quality of the twin stick kit I used of theirs for the transfer case.perhaps what impressed me the most was the quality of their customer service and their willingness to give me GM OEM part numbers for things like transmission mounts that they sell at a premium on their website to help me save some cash on the project. The guy even put me on hold for 10 minutes to go out back and find 1 in hand to double check the numbers for me. Glad to see that you are able to showcase their products and very glad to see that they have chosen to sponsor your fantastic videos!

    Thanks for this video. I have a 2001 TJ and am in the process of installing a 4SP Atlas. Advanced Adapters has really poor directions with sometimes conflicting information. I have the TJ cable shifter kit which is different from your shifter and I have a regular tailpiece with a speedometer sensor. Your video helps a lot - I just wish you had exactly the same stuff I have LOL. Advanced Adapters are helpful but their documentation is really poor!

    question for the 5.44:1 gearing you use. is that mainly for people who have manual transmissions who will benefit off that? i’m working with a dana 300 and want to put a 4:1 gearing in it mates to my AW4 auto

  • @natebleepinjeep9564

    @natebleepinjeep9564

    6 жыл бұрын

    G&GFactoryMade gearing down low is good for an automatic as well. But you can get away with a little bit less during an automatic then you can a manual. The benefits for the automatic are that you can keep a higher RPM and still slowly crawl up steep grades. Automatics can suffer starvation and come out of gear if you're not at a high enough RPM while at a steep angle. I don't know what your tire size is or your axle gearing, but typically 4:1 is great in most situations

  • @chadlloyd6247
    @chadlloyd62473 жыл бұрын

    Just a small note - you've actually communicated the ranges backwards. The transfer case is 2:1, and the 'doubler' is 2.72:1. You said it backwards. Just trying to be helpful. When you put the atlas in 4 low, it is 2:1. This is actually important, because your actual low range went UP, not down, which might be an issue for a user contemplating this setup. I've had a number of these setups, and you want to basically have it in low range, and then bring in the 'doubler' (which is actually 2.72:1) only when you need it. This means that your low range, without the doubler, needs to be as low as you need to go like 75%+ of the time. You might think 'well, I'll just put the planetary in low and leave the transfer case in HI, so I will be at 2.72:1 which is where I want to be most of the time', but I can tell you from experience that having to switch both levers of the transfer case from hi to low when you are bound up on an obstacle is much more difficult than just switching the planetary in and out. Anyway, just pointing it out, hope that helps for anyone contemplating this swap.

    Why did you choose 2:1,2:72:1? Could you have gone lower? I’ve been eye balling a northwest fab underdrive for my 4:1 case due to huge spreads. 2.72:1 UD, 4:1 TC, 10.88:1 low-low. I want the options and am curious if you chose that setup or that’s all that was offered. Great video btw, really enjoy your series the most.

    Bodeesafa thanks for the comment, I choose these ratios because I think it gave me the most options. I had the option to go lower but 10:1 is way to low for me!! I like the 2:1 for driving in mud, the 2.72:1 for trails and the 5.44:1 for the rocks. But I have 5.38:1 gears in the axles. A numerically lower axle ratio would certainly change things. With a 4.88 I would be much more interested in a 10:1 tcase. Glad to hear you liking the videos brother! Many more to come!

    consaka1 it's a 1.9 l turbo diesel out of a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta. If you look at my playlist on the bleepinjeep KZread channel I have a walk around that goes into more detail about the engine swap . Thank you for watching!

    Cool video... I didn't even know that these kinds of transfer cases were made. I've seen the Marlin Crawlers for Toyotas, but not these... so thanks for sharing. Couple of quick questions...is there no seal (or gasket) between the transmission and the transfer case? I did t see it in the video. Also, is it just me, or was the new transfer case sitting at an angle on top of the skid plate?

    Scott Gephart I'm glad you enjoyed the video! You can get a gasket that goes in between the transmission and transfer case but most people don't use it. Yes the transfer case is at a slight angle. Just barely less than the stock np231

    Nate Bleepinjeep gotcha, thanks for the quick reply. By the way, I like your video style. You kinda remind me of a high school shop teacher... very educational.

    TheKillerMarine I'm not sure i understand, I have a pinion guard on the rear axle? Is that what you were looking at maybe? I don't have a skid on the front pinion or driveshaft

    Did you stretch the rear? That's a mighty short rear driveshaft

    MasterMoparMan the rear is only stretched about 2 and 1/2 in right now. I'd say it needs another 2 at least

    Nate Bleepinjeep did you push the front axle forward? What are you going for as a wheelbase? Consider using the genrite tank?

    Did I hear you correctly?? Diesel in your TJ? What diesel engine do you have? I'm considering the VW 1.9 diesel. The Cummins 2.8 is just a little to pricey (at this point) for me.

    Jeremy Rhodes it's a 1.9 TDI out of a Volkswagen Jetta. Has bigger injectors and a slightly bigger Turbo. So far it's been awesome! The biggest unexpected performance increase was how much better at handles by dropping all of that weight up front. Also the gas mileage is ridiculous. I have a walk around video on my bleepinjeep playlist. I go into a little more detail with the engine swap

    Is that a 1410 at each end? I am guessing you have a 1350 double Cardin at the transfer case and 1410 at the axle.

    3500 bucks is about right, it's something I've been saving up for for quite a while! A very important tool to have, and you don't want to have it blow up on you in the middle of nowhere! I figured if it's good enough for King of the Hammers it's good enough for my little Jeep LOL

    Nate Bleepinjeep I got the money and already ordered it... My little 4.0 ho I'm sure won't hurt it... My 35" tires need the extra low gearing for the messes I get myself into... I TRUELY thank you for this video... Awesome video and tutorial I can't thank you enough... Especially on the bigger joints to make the drive shafts bullet proof...
