Super Garden Tractor: The John Deere 430 & 44 loader.

Ойын-сауық

I purchased this high quality survivor John Deere 430 with 578 hours back on April 26, 2018. Since then, it's seen heavy use, and I've been collecting footage along with it. Now, witness its full power, as it scrapes the ice off of our driveway pad.

Nice video. I own a 1987 430. Also had one growing up at my parents house. I beat the snot out of it as a kid and it just kept on going! That's why I bought one when I purchased my house as an adult. Great machine and the dif lock is the best feature on it. I never get stuck plowing snow. Nice low hour unit you got your hands on!

    600hours ... unreal. Well done. I just found/bought a 1992 430 with 850hours on it (In Victoria!) No loader sadly. :\

Last winter I bought a 1985 430 with 3-point hitch (no rear PTO), Cab, 50 inch plow, blower, 60 inch deck, 6 suitcase weights and weight rack. It's over 2000 hours but the engine looks like new. I bought it from the original owner who maintained it extremely well. Sounds and runs like new.

I just restored a 1984 430. They are a little beast of a tractor and I wish I could find a 44 loader that was not $3k and needed a complete restoration! One word of caution. Don't cover the radiator with hay or pull the grill often and clean the screen in front of the radiator! Nice nice find!

I just bought your old machine! Got it from lacombe, 670hrs on the clock now but it still looks and runs great, I haven't had a chance to use it yet as we are in the process of moving to our new property, sadly I didn't get the wheel weights with it but the propane tank with the bucket of concrete is still on the back. Still has the sticker saying "Deer farm power Athabasca" on it .

i just picked up a 44 loader- a few questions for you. you said you had a dif lock, are you referring to the independent brakes? Also, did you buy extensions for the controls? mine seem to be really short. Thanks in advance!

Would it not be easier to keep the snow off the concrete than to drive over it until its compacted and then remove it????

  • @lobsterbox20

markd8405t5000 It might, but it snows often here, and we lead busy lives. It’s quick enough to do with the loader.

That's a lot of effort into making a lawn mower do the job of a sub compact tractor. But congrats!

I sold my old 430 after just 4yrs owning it for lacking low-end grunt, it was my only complaint. Deere simply relied too much on its engine power instead of low ratio trans and thats why it struggles to remove the light ice/snow on this driveway. Its exactly how mine done me, tractor stops too easily instead of powering on through it like it should. My Wheel Horse (so glad I kept) with the hi/low manual trans thats very low geared has never once struggled to move ice/snow. We get 2ft snow falls here a lot and it don't phase my WH anything like my Deere was effected so I sold it. Gear them down Deere gear them down!!

Wasn't really Deere's choice. Most hydro units don't have much lower low ranges. These are a Sundstrand 15 pump mounted to a Peerless 2600 with high/low and diff lock. They usually always break traction before they'll lose power, if in good shape (I.e., tight linkages and good non leaking bypass valves) Thing is with any hydro pump, it's best thought of as a hydraulic motor (because, well, it is) The torque output increases linearly with more RPM.. if you find it wants to stop, then it needs more RPM. It's the biggest difference between really any hydro unit and a gear drive unit; controlling ground torque is almost the exact opposite idea

You guys trying to maintain a farm and all that and went and bought that little piece of junk? why not invest the money in a 3 or 4000 series and actually get work done? that thing couldnt peel snow and ice worth a damn off the concrete. work smarter, not harder.

Mike, have you considered the possibility that they cant afford the bigger tractors? A wise person is so because he finds a way to get a job done with what he has. The 430 seems to fit their needs on many levels and more importantly they're happy with it! Kudos to them!
