'Been binge watching your REVIEWS , along with a good deal of techniques you employ - - - I've been an experimenter most of my life ! Whatever WORKS , "WORKS" ! Here's a touch of "SMOKE" for you - I'd suggest that 'artists' that deal with inks , dyes , & watercolors "CAN" get away with a small tank compressor - provided they've got the 'learnification' / (experience) , to use an airbrush that can take LOW PSI operation , & can properly thin their material(s) to flow right . Thanks for sharing your time with us - & dispelling so much of the "MARKETING WANK" ! * I ran a ONE MAN sign shop for almost 15 years - mostly using 1-SHOT lettering enamels , ** Back in the 'good ole days ' , when it contained LEAD ! Nothing I've ever sprayed has been it's equal , . . . except MAYBE some of my home brewed 'colored VARNISHES' . . . slick as glass when the formulae is RIGHT ON ! Thanks again , Bill !

Thank you! one of those the lightbulb i did as a beginner video. They are on simple foam core board, and "hung" with velcro command strips. A little quick fun colorful stuff to hang in here. Because I rarely hang my art up. i need to do a couple more simple colorful things for the other side of the room at some point.. as soon as I decide what i want to put there :0 I do quite a bit of realistic paintings, but for decoration in here i like the playful colorful stuff.

Appreciate this review. I've been running a silentaire Scorpion II and the regulator had broken twice on me not to mention the mounting shaking completely lose/or breaking. I just put in an order for a tooty.... it's time for a change

Another great video of information. I just purchased one of these compressors from SG. Thanks Bill. If I might add one thing noticeable - I had to constantly change my volume up and down to watch this video. Your voice was all over the db range and not consistent, at times sounding muffled. I really appreciate the information I receive from your channel. 👍

I need to find an audio processor that can normalize volume.. Audio has always been the hardest thing for me making videos. And ive mostly gotten better however its very difficult when volumes change a lot in a video. And weirdly audio when uploaded to youtube gets compressed again when there is background noise. Often when i preview the video it sounds one way.. then I upload and well its changed. Definitely thank you for the feedback and I will try and get better in the future. Summer is coming so I should hopefully get back to making videos. I realize i tend to be inconsistent with uploads. But of course youtube doesnt pay my bills so when time gets crunched YT unfortunately gets pushed to the back

Nice little compressor! For the change I’m impressed! I would stick to my California air tools but for portability I’m in awe!! I remembered back in the day! Maybe 90s or early 2000s Campbell Hausfeld got sue for what you just mentioned! Labeling a certain HP when in reality was not the case! I even got a letter saying I could turn mine in for a full refund! Just didn’t bother! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah I mean im gonna keep my big compressor. But this is powerful and portable and you don't have to add anything.. (aside from the little adapter I mentioned) I had a LOT of people tell me they just didn't have the room or a place for a bigger compressor. Even the compact ones. This is my new "i need to carry a compressor over where im working" option.

heeeyyy....nice review. i appreciate the psi/timer, which is telling and made me disappointed in the fortress. I was looking at the 2 gall. I'm looking at getting a new compressor, currently have California Air Tools 8010A Aluminum Tank 8 gallon. My thinking was it was quiet enough (its NOT) and the tank size is enough where it doesn't cycle as much (slow leak nothing I can do about it unfortunately so negates teh tank pretty much), which in turn doesn't produce enough heat, which is less water in system, but also out herein Cali 1hp wattage costs a LOT so the less it runs, the btter. So had that compressor for 2 yrs and looking for new one. I guess my wants are too rigorous, I want ultra quiet, large tank size, qualitative build (no slow leak with all my trouble shooting i did). I went from the as186 clone to the CAT one, 1 hp is too much (wattage/loud). (.5) Hp seems good enough since I spray at 15-20psi normally with occasional 25psi so I don't mind having it chug for a min to fill a larger tank (at least 100psi). I have different AB that are different "efficiency" with air (Eclipse to gaahleri ranging from .2-.5) so how 'fast' I drain the tank depends on what I'm doing. My sessions tend to be all day (prime base coat) since I spray many pieces (Master grade Gunpla which ranges from 200-600pcs). I also entertained the thought of retrofitting my CAT one with a diff motor, dunno how 'hard' that would be. Plus I also saw that having the motor on top of the tank makes it louder compared the Fortress setup as example. also thought of the GSI Creos linear compressor L10 but max psi is 20 and seems finicky, but its quiet (briefly tested an L7) and wattage is low (60ish). I also entertained the thought of saving up my money and buying a silentaire 8 gall (oil and all) which go for around 1500ish. Silence is $$$$$. That's where I am. Thanks for the vid.

What would have been interesting to see is when doing the heat test to take a point and shot thermometer to see how hot that top cover plate temperature read was

i need your advice.... I'm looking for a compressor to spray my 36x36" projects with varnish and other topcoats. I was looking at the CAT 8 gallon for $210. I have a mini gun and LVLP as well. is this the best idea or could one of these do? I have a Silentaire and Badger for my smaller work

which LVLP gun is it? And no this wont run any LVLP gun. The 8 gallon Cat will run the Iwata lph 80. And a few other smaller spray guns. 36x36 is a pretty large flat surface. If your talking varnish on canvas you can get away with a lot because the surface hides any irregularities. But if your needing an ultra smooth topcoat on a smooth surface It would be hard to get that much covered with the lph80 or smaller guns. But again if were talking canvas id have no issue using varnish out of the minigun on something that size.. I have done several 24x36 pieces with it.

My usual project size is no bigger than 24x36” on ACM panel or MDF and as small as 12x24”. I have the Creos PS-290 as well. I’ve never varnished before and I need to. I would like to spray it rather then brush it on. I was leaning on getting the 8gallon CAT

Wouldn't the issue with the fortress be due to the SCFM being low and not the PSI range of the tank? I'm debating getting the 2 gallon since it's only 3 db louder but has 2.1cfm vs the 1 gallons .7scfm. I'm wanting to do larger works, but also not wanting something that will wake the girlfriend.

as pressure builds, the ability of a compressor to output CFM drops. The numbers advertised are all over the place with no standard they use. Some will advertise cfm at 90 psi some lower, some higher. So a compressor rated to output 1.5 CFM at 90 PSI, Will output less at 120 PSI and signifcantly more at 40 PSI. If you were to adjust the pressure switch(Not the regulator the switch is the black box and opening it technically voids warranty) on the small fortress to shutoff at 90 PSI it would likely be able to cycle on and off with that load (albeit not for a long time ) The pressure switch is a set spread of 30PSI if I recall correctly, and the spread on the Cool tooty is only 10 pounds. Again while the fortress is set to a much higher PSI, it really cant maintain that PSI under any load. Which is where it matters how much you are painting and painting style. If doing art and keeping the air on a significant time, those small airbrush compressors will fail in a short time. I also was unable to use the 1 gallon fortress as a regular day to day compressor. I managed to kill one in two weeks With that said id go for the 2 gallon (or better choices are available) If you have a place to set it. If you have a wood floor apartment on the second story, its gonna cause too much vibration to be a noise nuiscance for neighbors. If you are on a slab And have a place not directly near the bedroom you will probably be fine. The bulk of noise can be mitigated but vibration issues can be a little harder to control. FWIW i use a 4.3 quiet tech and I needed to use it in my dining area wood floor for a while when remodeling the studio. I adjusted the pressure switch to run 60-90 (less pressure less noise less vibration) Set the compressor on a rubber mat with heavy items under it and put some soft surfaces around it to mitigate reflecting sound. I have a video on this. Not exactly what I did but the "experimental" version.

Have the same compressor with a 9L tank - longer quiet time. Just wish I could adjust the lower setting of the startup range because it's been designed for higher pressure air tools. That would give me more tank time because I never use over 30psi. Also have the AS186 which I still use if working past midnight because the shut off sound on the 9L is loud.

lets see... . so the smallest cheapest lightest compressor they have that can run the minigun I showed in this video would be the 50 TC which weighs about 5o pounds.. so not really an easily portable option. And goes for a cool grand. the 20a (i have one) barely will run enough for a serious artist of modest needs. And leaves a whole lot of options off the table.. since it can only output .7 CFM. and maxes out at supplying about 50 PSI. (55 is its kick on pressure) so your out of luck if you need higher pressure than 50 really. While oil filled compressors can last for many many years and are quiet they don't fit all needs. I would absolutely buy a dual stage large compressor before spending a couple gs on a sil air compressor thats large and powerful enough to do what I want it to do.

Very poor quality of receivers. Metall too thin. The receiver rotted in the third year (AS-326).
