I mentioned this on the Retsuprae version of this, but it bears repeating EVERYWHERE. Samus isn't allowed to use any of her equipment without express permission, but Anthony gets to use his huge fuck-off laser if it's "called for." 21:00 , right there. Fuck you Adam.

I thought the babyhood was exaggerated until they said it like eight times within the first ten minutes. Also let's point out that Samus gets emotional over one metroid after committing genocide over its entire species.

+GameNub Quin Honestly the feelings over the metroid from the original game make sense, and the legitimacy of those emotions is reflected in how people who played the first game totally freaked when it died. It's the companion cube effect. But translating those emotions from the grim, stoic, and hardened combat veteran Samus whose grief showed in FIREPOWER AND WRATH to dainty little samus waifu's "nuuuuuuuuu muh bebe how der u" is insulting and tiresome. It's like replacing Captain Kirk with Zoolander and acting like nothing's changed in the scene where Spock dies.

***** I'm not mad she cares at all that it died, but you're right. She's not only not supposed to be a stereotypically emotional women but is built to be the opposite, a strong as nails bordering on cold bounty hunter. This game's biggest flaw is it comes off as seriously sexist.

Woolie's totally wrong. Samus should be emotional, as in constantly pissed off.

MOM, other M- other Mother, obsessing over a baby, Adam being a father figure, the freaking BOTTLE ship because what else would it be called, showing her eyes so you remember she's a woman, the signal being called a "baby's cry" because I guess the "MURDER" signal wasn't urgent enough, Raidly becoming a space bunny baby, the space baby randomly in the intro.......... There's probably more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. We get it, Nintendo, she can't get pregnant and wants kids. You don't have to hammer it in anymore! .... What, that's the only thing that comes to mind for why they'd go so far with the motherhood crap. Why else would all of this make her monologue and instantly fall for Adam, obeying whatever he says like a dog?

Like in MP3 there's a thing you can scan that says "Project Dread (the assumed name of the post-fusion Metroid game) is nearing completion". That was YEARS ago. They obviously just destroyed all assets and shredded all documents and called it a day.

It feels like time to come back and watch all the metroid sbfp vids, isn't that right zack?

The reason why metroid is good is because it is a game about atmosphere and exploration. The main character is the alien world and mysterious feeling that it carries, and Samus is a part of that, she reflects the very idea of Metroid. Samus was always mostly silent because her silence enhances the experience. Samus is the medium by which the player experiences the world. Because samus does not speak, she becomes a part of the Metroid world. She is every bit as mysterious and alien as the environments she explores and the creatures she encounters. She speaks through actions and subtlety, or through a short thought to herself. That is what made Samus cool. Metroid is built on a feeling of isolation. In every game, Samus is alone. Even in Fusion, the only person she had was a machine that could not physically help her. Samus' interactions with that AI is what drove part of the narrative, and made her characterization interesting. Most importantly though, it added to the atmosphere of tension and isolation that made that game so good. I hope this helps everyone here understand a little bit better the reason why Other M fucks everything up, not just Samus' personality. It fails to hit any of the marks that make Metroid games what they are.

This video perfectly exemplifies why Pat is my favorite. He loves all the same things I love, and hates all the same things I hate!

It's seriously so dumb, it looks like she's barely pushing 5 foot even with her gigantic heels. She was never as almost-exaggeratedly curvy as she is in this game either. She was pure muscle. But nooo Yoshio Sakamoto wanted a tiny vulnerable waifu so this is what we get. Ugh.

furyberserk I don't love it, but I really wanted it to be done right. Even the whole Adam thing, it could have been done right. I wanted to know the story of the legendary Samus Aran, how the Federation would deal with this warrior girl raised by the Choso, why she then decided to become a bounty hunter, how she would deal with having to go on a mission with her old military superior and how he would deal with the fact that she is not only not under him anymore but has become a bounty hunter of legendary status. All this could have been made into a great story, but instead we got a dumb story, with boring characters and tired tropes, and with dialogue on the same level as a fanfic by a 12 year old. I guess I should have seen in the trailer, I was so distracted by the way it looked and by the cool music that I did not pay attention to the dumb dramatic lines. Sorry for the long rant. I just wish this game was good.

DarkZholt I was actually thinking of how this game could have been much better and came to many conclusions that would have succeeded. The only thing I hate about the Metroid series from fans, like you(unfortunately) is that her saving the universe(by destroying the metroids) means she deserves some kind of grand status. I get the fans thinks she's a badass and all that, but she's just equiped with tech that lets her solve the problem. I literally think that if the Chozo existed, Samus wouldn't be the savior of the universe, but rather the Chozo, mostly because they made the metroids and the Federation is trying to recreate them, and Samus is just forcing the responsibility onto herself as she's the only one capable of doing anything about it. It makes me hate the series a little cause everything seemingly revolves around the Metroids, the Chozo or Samus's use of her suit, literally limiting what people could have in the game.

furyberserk Wait, so saving the universe is no big deal? Or destroying an entire species? Samus is not only equiped with tech, the armor is fused with her body to some level and she was raised by the Chozo, yes, the Chozo would be the saviors but they are not around anymore, but Samus was left behind by them. In a way they are the saviors, indirectly. I can't see why having Samus, the Chozo or even the Metroid as the focus could be a bad thing, really. What I do think is a bad thing is the way she is portrayed and how the stories are told. You may not think that Samus desearves a "grand status" based on what she did and you may look down on her because she is only capable of doing the things she did due to ancient tech built into her body, but that does not change the fact that what she did was a big deal. I don't care if the story would portay her as a hero to be praised or have the federation consider her to be dangerous fo having too much power for a single bounty hunter, all I wanted was a reaction. You don't put a weirdo, alien raised bounty hunter with ancient tech armor capable of exterminating entire species and affecting the entire Federation in a room filled with Federation Soldiers and have then react as if it was tuesday. They could praise her, they could hate her, they could fear her, but the way she just ... stands there really bothers me. It's so easy to have interesting things happening to Samus but the story always refuses to let it happen. What is your opinion? What things you think could make Metroid's story less boring?

Okay, Woolie said that "it would be terrible is Samus had a really over-emotional voice." Then how about don't write dialogue for Samus that's over-emotional and give her a voice that doesn't match the dialogue given? Or better yet, DON'T GIVE SAMUS FUCKING DIALOGUE?

I love how the Power Bomb, a recurring power-up that Samus usually acquires around halfway or three quarters into a game, is now an ultimate threshold weapon in Other M only used against the final boss. Because when I think defeating the ultimate evil in Metroid, I think of the Power Bomb.

Fun fact: In Metroid Canon, it is 100% confirmed Samus Aran is 6'3" tall. Every guy here is taller than her. Fuck this game for vomiting all over the Metroid Canon. Oh and another thing, why the hell does her Zero Suit have high heels? She didn't in Zero Mission, in Brawl, in any game till this one. Thanks for the arbitrary sexist design choice there.

In the case of say, Bayonetta, her design is "sexy" but it isn't degrading because they have a reason for it and in a way it makes her MORE badass, and a more interesting character, with characters like Cassie Casey from the novel of An Evil Guest, she very much acts like a woman, but it adds to her character. Allow me ask you, what does putting high heels on every character in this game add? All it adds in is high heels not because the character always had the purpose of being a bit sexy but because these guys just can't tell what a woman is unless she's covered in lipstick and wearing the tallest motherfucking heels in all of space. If you were going into war as an interstellar bounty hunter would you wear fucking heels? No, hell no, she literally has no story reason for them, they slapped them on like mindless idiots, that's why it's sexist, because it's the only way they can portray women.

Rewatching after hearing Pat's news about The Baby

That's true, Team Ninja handled the gameplay, D-Rockets the cutscenes, and Sakamoto all the writing and directing (including the voice acting direction). I actually don't know who made the decision for Samus' design here, but I always assumed it was Team Ninja/D-Rockets, since she looks so much like all of their other characters. It would kinda surprise if it was Sakamoto's choice, since he directed many of the previous games, where she was tall. But it's a possibility.

She's 6'3'' officially, in every other game. But for this game they made her 5'5". You can thank Team Ninja and D-Rockets for only knowing how to create women with one body type. That's why Samus looks so much like a DOA character.

I come from the future to say that Nintendo, in its infinite wisdom seeks to revive the Metroid franchise as a chibi co-op sport series, and thinks that turning up to E3 with nothing but Zelda previews is a smart move.

Exofox She actually was Samus in the Prime Trilogy. And she had a cut spoken dialogue/monologue recorded for Prime 1. (Apparently the mini monologue she spoke was the one used in SSB Brawl in one of the Metroid songs)
