Sunrise on a Hill - Thread Painting & Inktense Pencils using Heat Transfer Pencil

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello everyone! Today I have some fun while thread painting and using Inktense Pencils. I used Aunt Martha's Heat Transfer Pencils to transfer my image to 100% cotton. This pattern is fun because it comes in 3 ways, printable on fabric, transferable by tracing or you can do this quilt in raw edge applique using the provided templates and map. Thanks for watching!!

    Great video as usual. I’m going to do this but use my new CutterPillar Glow Ultra to trace on using pens I bought that vanish with heat. Have to use what I just received as a Christmas gift but hmmm I could use some of them Inktense pencils...lol just sayin. I am going to have my ten year old grd daughter try this technique since she wants to sew with me so she won’t have to use the iron.... I’m thinking of having her do several large squares and then we’ll sew them with other fabric squares and make her mom a lap quilt for Mother’s Day ......

    I love it because I can draw designs then put the cutting matt on top of my drawing aligning the design in the grids then place the material over the design and using a fabric pen that vanishes with a iron and wha lah easily done. Great for cutting little squares or small pieces of material accurately. After the holidays I would like to make squares with line work and make into a quilt. I’m a artist so I would like to have a themed nature quilt that I designed and drew. Most of all the it’s large enough to do larger blocks and it has three light settings so as not to blind a person with brightness.. They have a carrying case you can buy but I never go to quilting retreats. Also it’s thin so as your wrist isn’t pressing against a edge while you draw... A little pricy but hey I never buy fancy clothes or shoes or over buy materials and it will come in handy for art work as well as quilting.....it was a special Christmas gift and I really like it as you can tell.

    Lisa, I just recently ran across your vlog. The info about the Inktense pencils was great. I have the same pencils and gel but wasn't happy with the results. Now I will thin the gel down with water. Also, If I'm not being too nosy, how did you hurt your arm? I call scars Badges of Courage.

    Very nice technique. I have a question, though. Can you do a decorative stitch while doing free motion quilting? Hope this is not a dumb question.

  • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead

    @TheQuiltmakerHomestead

    Colleen Murphy there are NEVER any dumb questions!!! In my experience it would be best to have a regular foot on the machine while doing a decorative stitch in order for it to stitch properly. When doing fmq I like to stick to a straight stitch or zigzag stitch with the length set to 0. Hope this helps ♡

    Hi Lisa! Thanks for a great video. I've only used Inktense once and had it in my head to put a medium on after colouring the fabric. Will have to try them again. Would that make a difference? 'Back in the day', my mom introduced those tracing pencils to me (as a kid), but they came with their own pad of iron-on paper. I'm not sure what was different about it vs reg tracing paper, tho. I embroidered the design, then washed it - it always washed out. Could you have rinsed it out after doing the stitching (before using Inktense)? Was the fabric 100% cotton? Products change over the years, as well, so something may have changed since my last purchase of them! You've given me the confidence to attempt fabric colouring again. Thanks!

    Great hearing from You! I think each person should experiment with the Inktense and see the different ways they work. You can put it on dry fabric, or wet achieving different looks :) play on some scrap fabric and have fun ♡ you know, my iron was set at the highest heat setting. That may have been TOO hot. I'm going to try it on like a 4 and see if I still have the bleeding. I wonder too it if would have washed out before playing with the inks. I too have some experimenting to do hahaaa. Yep it was 100% cotton

    I think the bleeding from the inktense was from the water you added. Aloe vera will work too on fabric without the bleeding.

    Hello lovely friend I am sitting in bed watching you before I go to sleep. I really enjoyed your video Lisa thank you. I am trying hard to master machine embroidery but not getting very far, I am wondering if a pair of non slip gloves would help me feel more in control. I could see your art quilts as a set of four seasons and I think they would look stunning on a wall. I agree that the aloe vera seemed to work much better than the fabric stabiliser although there was only a tiny bit of bleeding and at the end this looked like shading. I told Julia (stitchesbyjulia)about your channel Lisa and she came over to watch your vlog and agreed that your work is just lovely. Well Lisa I am just hotfooting over to your store to buy your patter, I think I am going to appliqué the quilt as I am more confident with that, although I won’t give up on the machine embroidery. The Beast from the East has left us now thank goodness and I am able to get out and about again, I hope your weather is settled. Always a pleasure to see your posts Lisa, take care. Warmest hugs and loves, night night God BlessxxxxxxDorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️😴

If you do that I'd lovvvve to see. Sleep well my friend ♡

    Is there a way to make the water based painting “permanent?”

  • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead

    @TheQuiltmakerHomestead

    6 жыл бұрын

    Patricia Hildebrand if you are using Inktense Pencils, they are permanent when heat set with iron. If using regular acrylics, mixing the Golden GAC 900 makes them fabric paints and you heat set them as well

  • @cherylturman640
    @cherylturman6406 жыл бұрын

    Lisa, when you start to brush the pattern in the beginning is that water or the GAC 900? Then you have what looks like a water cup at the top of the picture that you are using to blend your colors is this correct? Now, one more, what is in the little lid that you are applying to each picture before you color it? Is that water also or the GAC? I have been spreading your name around town and to my Quilting friends, some of them are going to check out your video's.

    Cheryl Turman water is in the little cup, and the GAC900 in the little lid. I think I used too much water lol. Thank you for spreading the word, that is exciting!!!! ♡

    Lisa, can the Prismacolor pencils be used instead of the inktense?

  • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead

    @TheQuiltmakerHomestead

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Cheryl, the Inktense pencils are an actual ink that is activated with water, that dries permanent especially when heat set on fabric. I don't believe the Prismacolor pencils are "ink"......it would be worth investigating. I would do a small project and put it through the wash and see how it turns out. I do know that the Inktense is blend-able with water, fabric medium or like what I do and use clear aloe gel. I could not speak for the Prismacolor as my experience with them is limited :)

    Hi Lisa, love your Chanel! just wondering? did you ever mention using full sheet labels to apply to fabric for your printer? I can't fin any video that mentions that process! haha, sorry if it wasn't you. Have a great day

    I did :) Although now I'm trying to remember which video it was in hahaha. I'm pretty sure it's the one where I was testing out my new color laser printer. I love the full sheet labels for this...it's quick!! Maybe because I'm using a laser printer that uses heat....but I have a hard time sometimes removing the label after printing.

    Oh no, another question. When you say use the aloe instead of the GAC 900 do you mean just pure aloe juice or something else? I have never heard of using aloe for a paint fixative. Sory, I am being a real pest with this one.
