I fished this and a few other Ed Engle recommendations with some success during my time fishing the MO in Montana. However, I think the best patterns for Tricos can be found in Bob Miller's hard to find book "Tricos." His angling advice along with his patterns saved me when Engle's patterns failed on the super picky fish on the MO. Also, sunken, as I learned, isn't necessarily sinking given the size of the hook and its weight here. Gary Borger wrote about "Fishing the Film" and that is really what this pattern does well. Of course, tracking this pattern in the film -- especially when a long reach cast is needed -- is not the easiest endeavor.

Nice one Tim! Like the tip for trimming off the wire! Will use that technique for weighting small nymphs as it should cause them to ride hook point up.

Wow! That really is "cheating", Tim. Ha! I actually thought you were going to split them with thread. Please keep sharing your "cheats" all you want...I'm pretty sure nobody minds. Great pattern.

Great video. In your opinion, what is the best online store to get materials from?

It's Still May, Trico's were I live don't show up till August!! I just happen to have those hooks and UV resin all I need is some White fibbits, and some Antron yarn. I will put it on the list. I should also put on the list some 16/0 black thread too. This weeks fly will not set me back much!

Some paint brushes are made of the exact same fibers as the micro fibits, might be worth checking the garage before you place an order

Charlie May head slap me if I did that to my tricos. His pattern was simple and deadly. Caught so many fish on it.

How exactly does one fish this? Under an indicator?

Skidin Dingo dish like a dry dropper. Use a floating trico spinner as the “indicator.”

А то я задолбался и может быть надо сменить нафиг катушкодержатель на такой как у вас а то я пользуюсь тимко

Anybody else think he was gonna wrap 0.15 wire around the entire front? Lol. That was a nifty way to add weight to smaller patterns.
