Sunken Gold: Shipwrecks and the New Gold Rush | Underwater Eldorado (Documentary)

Faced with an ever-growing demand for precious metals and dwindling extraction sites, the world’s oceans are being seen as a new Eldorado. Thousands of shipwrecks litter the ocean floor with cargoes of these ’precious metals’. With today’s technology, this treasure is in reach.
Underwater archaeology has revealed that 3 million shipwrecks litter the ocean floor, 3,500 of which sunk with cargoes of gold, silver and porcelain onboard. Billions of dollars worth of this material, just sitting there, at the bottom of the sea. With today’s technology, this gold is in reach.
But how can this sunken treasure be recovered? And who has the right to do so? The nation whose territorial waters host the wreck? The country plundered years ago for its resources? Or indeed humanity, as advertised by UNESCO? Between diplomatic battles and great buccaneers, this international investigation uncovers a new gold rush.

I would have dumped all 600,000 coins back where they were found and said “You go get it yourself” you don’t sit idle for 10 years watching someone recover it and say nothing until the jobs done

What value is a rotting ship to people that will never see it other than maybe a film of it?

There are 48 nuclear weapons and 11 reactors at the bottom of sea inside sunken submarines, thankfully the majority were sunk in seep waters but its just a matter of time before someone find a a way to recoup them.

I can’t stand that woman… Do not commercialize it? That’s how it got there! Yeah, let’s save it for history, let it consumed by the Ocean. Because that’s what the ocean does. In time everything will be consumed. Just look at the titanic. Collapsing, disintegrating, and soon it will be gone forever. Impossible to uncover. History lost! Commercialization, treasure hunting and history of loss shipping is not separate, but one.

Was this cargo not going to be used to fund a country in war was this cargo to be used to pay for weapons of war if so the cargo should be free to be recovered by whomever can aford to recover if the cargo was to be used to better the country if this may be the case then the cargo should be solved and decided between the recoveroure and the country of origin where was the cargo recovered was it within the boundary of the country of origin if not to the finder of the cargo should be intitelled to the spoilers yet if the cargo should happen to be within the boundary of the country of origin the cargo shall be returned to the state and then a compensation should be granted to the recoveroure without hesitation this is now known to be spoilers of war if this happened to be the case.....

If a car breaks down by the side of the road and it's abandoned for 100 years with money inside. Anyone can take the money or salvage the vehicle. Somehow it a boat sinks it becomes some kind of weird monument. It doesn't make sense

After somthing wrecks in the ocean it belongs to the ocean and at most you should have a limited time to declare ownership id say atmost 10 years if by that time if the owner Gov or Private andhasn't done anything to successfully retrieve it themselves it belongs to the ocean especially 100s and thousands of years the ownership should belong to the ocean and only pass on to the finder of any of it

It's like the old story of the little chicken and the hed of Weet all of the other farm animals would let the hen do all of the work wen the work was done all the others wanted to have sum of the spoilers yet not helping with any of the work then being told by the hen she would not shear because they had not helped in any of the work to achieve this hole even having been asked to help yet not doing so now making such a fuss why can't they have any the hen is being selfish not sharing with them even though the hen did all of the work there would be nothing if not for the hens hard work what gives the other animals the Wright to expect to have any of the spoils that the hen now has if not for her hard work there Would nothing !!!!!
