The Hunt For The Royal Charter's Sunken Treasures | Shipwreck Of Gold | Unearthed History

On October 26th, 1859, during the final stretch of its voyage from Melbourne to Liverpool, the Royal Charter met its tragic fate in the midst of one of the most severe storms to ever strike Britain. The toll in terms of lives lost was staggering, and equally staggering was the value of gold carried by the ship, amounting to $130 million. This fortune, initially discovered in Australia, was subsequently lost to the depths of the sea. Presently, Vince Thurkettle, renowned as a world champion in the field of gold hunting, is driven by a mission: to reclaim the long-lost treasure of the Royal Charter.

The joy of finding a ring or anything that you can discover from a shipwreck, then going to the distant relative to show them something that belonged to a family member is also amazing.

What a wonderful video loved watching every minute of it. Having had 1 ancestor who arrived here in South Australia, then went to the Bendigo goldfields where it is believed he was murdered it was so interesting to watch this. Luckily he had a huge family back in South Australia or I wouldn't be here now, He and his large family came from Thaxted, Essex . Loved this story. Thank you.

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"

This catastrophe occurred during the Carrington Event of September 1, 1859 which was the worst CME to hit the planet in thousands of years. This solar storm could have possibly triggered the storm that sunk the ship. Too bad humans didn't have better technologies to detect these weather anomalies.

It is so sad that the British government is able to claim all of the items that are found. It would have been wonderful if the items that are able to be traced to surviving descendants of those who lost their lives could be returned to the heirs, but there is no chance of the government doing anything like that.

Anyone notice that that Childs' ring resembles a little bug. The opal being the body and the diamond being the head? It's something a child might like to wear if maybe she liked lady bugs or something that child liked.

What does it take to be a ship's captain: unwarranted levels of over-confidence, & insane levels of stupidity! He didn't even know the tides of the route into Liverpool 🤨 Just ask the captains of this ship, & the Titanic, just to name two. And innocents pay for it, with their lives. In finishing, a great tale of tragedy, & Humanitarianism. Cheers.

um, that's what I was thinking...then again it could have been something she wasn't wearing but was in a jewelry box. Maybe it wasn't common for little girls to wear rings, and it was known that this family was into jewelry...? The size of the ring, also, wasn't necessarily a child's; by today's standards, maybe, but back then women were smaller. I have my great grandmother's engagement ring, and it doesn't fit past my 2nd knuckle of my pinkie, so it could have also been a petite woman's ring (my great grandmother was 4'10").
