In times of trouble the used mylar bags would make great grow bags for starting plants
Well, that was fun. You should do this more often!

Thank you, it was fun!
Like how you packed “the Sunday meal”. I’m a mom and I’m proud of you! When you visit with her again she’ll let you know how proud of she is!
@John In Bibs i would add water purification tablets to complete full meal preparation
Our whole family eats Sunday supper together every week. Roast beef is a favorite.
I like how you put these together John. We're ditching our canned food, that we have to change out every year, in our 72 hour emergency packs for meals like this. Going to use half the meat portion as you suggest, planning that we may not have power for a fridge when we need to use them. We've put together family sized meals like this, but haven't made the individual size portions in a pack. Thanksgiving just around the corner will serve as another meal plan like this, so we're planning on cooking up some extra. Thanks again for another great demonstration!
excellent vid
Omg how did I miss this fantastic video?? Looks so delicious!!!
Winner winner Sunday dinner!!!😋
On your powdered gravy, you may already do this - once you weigh the gravy/divide - zero out again with bowl and gravy powder and start scooping out food into your Myles bag - the volume you take out will be in the negative. Keep taking out to you reach your ideal quantity. Saves many steps.
Yet another great video John!
Fantastic job putting the complete meal in a bag. It looked wonderful
I’ve tried this twice and my people keep eating it before I can get it freeze dried! Hopefully, 3rd time lucky.😂 Great video.

Dang you’re good.
Looks very good for freeze drying. I'll need to add this meal to my list. Thanks!!
I've had my FD for a bit now but having some issues. Someone recommended your channel. I'm glad they did. Looks like I'm gonna need some snacks and a comfy couch to binge watch some of your videos. Thank you.

what issues are you having? I'm toying around with the idea of investing in one. I am a home canner and already have 1000 pints and quarts filled and safely stored away. This just looks like too much fun, I think I could get into it.
Does anyone know how to give a video 2 thumbs up? :D Awesome work John!
Those drink bags are so awesome! Can't wait to get some and make my own.
Yum! I can't wait for this one!!!!
Great ideas for these meals. With access to water & heat source, meals are ready.. Thanks for sharing.
I am thinking one bag and put every thing in one bag.
Sunday dinner has always been important in our family. Even as empty nesters, a nice Sunday dinner, usually beef or pork roast is still observed in our home. In a time of need that one MRE meal you demonstrated could easily sustain my wife and I. I am getting hungry watching the video. I agree with a previous viewer that the mylar bags if they can be cleaned and dried could easily be repurposed for storing items to keep dry, or used as a temp measuring pouch for water in the field, etc. A lot of work goes into preparing those MRE packs. I like the assessors pack. Wouldn't it be nice to consider including an after dinner mint, some small candies, or gum in your accessory kit? Perhaps even a packaged alcohol swab for disinfectant or eye glass cleaning. Especially if they are to be utilized in a emergency or away from home. They can always be saved for later use if not at the time of the meal. I look at a MRE two ways. 1. How many can reasonably be carried afield in a bug out bag and how much room would they take up in the pack. Overall portion size can make a big difference there. They would also be a great way to share a meal or two in a humanitarian way with someone you want to assist in a time of need. Compartmentalizing it all in one package can work better to convey that there may not be more where this came from vs providing several smaller individual packages that appear as they taken from a bulk storage bin. Just some thoughts. I so enjoy your creativity and efforts that go into developing your meal ideas. I think you have some keen culinary skills in your background.
Sweet!! Love me up some Sunday roast dinner! Use to come home every Sunday afternoon from church to that luscious smell!! Now I have to make it myself lol 😂
Hey John, thanks for all your ideas. Could you put the gravy right in with the roast?
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
I don't think so, The gravy would have been too runny to enjoy if I reconstituted the beef with the gravy included, IMO
What a great idea! Thanks!
I found that measuring the powder, it is easier for me to weigh it into a flexible plastic bowl, then I squeee the sides and pour it into the mylar bag. I can seal it up and move on to the next one. It helps me make it easier weighing, and I have a lot less spillage. Maybe it would help you too.

Thank you sir
We buy the same cooking supplies, like the scissors, etc.
I add a small can of Coke. Makes the roast so tender
Great video! I have found freeze dried food is even yummy straight out of the bag no recon. Needed! But boy definitely need something to wet the whistle! Lol
Very enjoyable to watch and could almost taste the roast beef. Well done. Inspiring but enough work to make me think it's going to have to be a special Sunday I break it out.

I agree
I've never had a sunday roast family dinner. I recall in fact very few family dinners.
Ok. I see it. Separate sides
Why wouldn’t you combine them all in one bag? The roast, veg and gravy, also, you can wash and reuse the bags
It's driving me crazy waiting....
Oh John - need to know what’s in that “accessory pack”? Awesome job, thank you for all you do!!

@JohnInBibs I'm about a year behind here, but did you make the box of stuffing and then freeze dry it?
@JohnInBibs
5 күн бұрын
Yes, I am pretty sure I made the stuffing as directed on the box.
Is that a cutting board or a table you work on? I'd love to have a huge cutting board. You have me so hungry. I'm not ready to invest in a freeze dryer but it sure looks like fun. I do dehydrate and have been home canning food for over 50 years. Just what I need is another foodie addiction!!!
Why wouldn’t you add the gravy powder to the meat bag?
So so you eat your meals regularly or save them
Is there a reason you used the freeze-dried butter for the stuffing? Wouldn't regular butter work since you're freeze-drying the end product?

What size is your out bag? The one you put everything in and sealed.
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
1 gallon bag
Question: Seeing you put it all in a large mylar bag with an O2 absorber, wouldn't it be cheaper to use vacuum seal bags for the inside bags?
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
It would be a little cheaper but wouldn't serve my purpose. I want to be able to reconstitute my meals in the bag to save time and resources in the event of an emergency or location not having bowls etc to rehydarete in. The mylar has a ziplock and works perfectly. But by all means you should package yours the way you want to pack yours.

@@JohnInBibs I see. Thank you for answering. Just took my roast out of the freezer, will be making this in a day or two. Thank you for your detailed instructions.
use a serrated roast knife maybe?
Why didn’t you just put the gravy in with the mix?
Hey, John, you do know that you can wash and reuse those Mylar bags,,,,,? Lol! Save your money! Dee
I watch from the beginning you cooking up and freeze drying this roast beef meal and I did not see you adding a bunch of salt like a lot of people do so what is the salt or sodium content of your meals? Do you have an idea how much sodium I have a very strict diet where I can't eat very much sodium at all and it's not blood pressure so I was curious because a lot of ingredients has their own sodium so a person can cook and not add salt and the meal is absolutely delicious I'm just curious and how do we shop at your store?
@JohnInBibs
7 ай бұрын
I rarely add salt to any of my recipes. I like to show you the viewer exactly what I add so you can duplicate it. To my tastebuds most things that I add to make the meal have enough sodium for me. Thanks for the question.
You are eating all of this cold?
If you weigh your pre/post dry frozen weights you can calculate exactly how much water to add when it’s time to rehydrate it (write it on the Mylar pouch). ;)
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
I've seen that idea, no thanks I like to eyeball it. Lol
I think I'd be using a wooden spoon as to not ruin your pan
Wasn’t that 16 cups of gravy?
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
Yes it was, I only freeze dried half of that. The rest I used for my fresh Sunday roast dinner
John, I really enjoy your videos. Your gloves are in your way, though. I liked it better when you lost them midway on your show. Now,,,I can’t think why you take the time to measure/weight your foods when you just pour water at your own desire,,,,? I, personally, don’t measure/weigh my foods. I add water till I am satisfied with the thickness and texture. Anywho,,,,bless you and keep up your cooking/prepping. Dee
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
I just weighed the trays so I don't go over the fd limit. And weighed the gravy powder so that I could divide in separate equal portions
Is your meal hot? It looks cold to me, but I’ve never tried it so let me know anyone.
@JohnInBibs
Жыл бұрын
As hot as boiling water is after sitting 5 minutes
If you slice the meat cross grain, rather than with the grain, it will be more tender to eat.
Good Stuff, Hint: If you weigh your trays before and after you freeze dry them, then you know exactly how much water loss. Just divide the loss into the portions and you know how much to add when rehydrating, Thanks for sharing
